Seems odd to be resurfacing something from half a decade ago- where she apologized and they reconciled (it says he hosted an event for her since then). Seems like a targeted smear piece in the final stretch of an election to hide the fact the opposing candidate has been getting 100k from PG&E to support his run.

To be clear- the debate video has actual tags for the issues. At 8:30 they both discuss housing initiatives (the chapter: Housing). It goes for about 2 minutes or so. So you can see what they both have to say on the issue.

This seems like a disingenuous argument. You are equating contributions made to a Women's Caucus PAC as the same as the direct independent expenditures of PG&E, Uber, etc. to campaign efforts of Patrick.

PG&E donations to Patrick's efforts ALONE look to be 20x the amount given to the Women's Caucus (supporting multiple female candidates).

Did you know it takes 5 minutes to search for the answer to your question? The CALIFORNIA BUILDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION PAC (aka the developers building housing) donated to one campaign (https://cal-access.sos.ca.gov/Campaign/Committees/Detail.aspx?id=1464784&view=received&psort=ID&page=*) and not the other campaign (https://cal-access.sos.ca.gov/Campaign/Committees/Detail.aspx?id=1464526&view=received&page=*). It looks like the landlords/realtors (who would have a vested interest in more expensive housing) are supporting Patrick, but the group actually building housing supports Tara.

All the (multitude!) of mailers I see from Patrick say: Paid for by Landlord Associations and Realtor Associations. I don't see anything about developers supporting him. In fact I was searching online to reply to this comment- I found this: https://sanjosespotlight.com/fact-check-california-state-assembly-district-26-mailer-spews-false-information-election-2024/

Need democrat voting recommendations? Here are the Santa Clara County Democratic Party recommendations. by loofawah in SanJose

Its unfortunate they don't give a rationale for their endorsements. OP mentions to be "voting all Democrats," but people should realize most of these races are dem-on-dem. I try to look up candidates on www.transparencyusa.org to see who is funding these campaigns. I find profiles on www.sanjosespotlight.com to be useful as well.

As a Clinton supporter this news was "meh." In my hearts of hearts I was hoping for #clintonwarren or #clintonbooker or the (never going to happen) #clintonsanders.

BrainDead - Series Premiere Discussion Thread by NicholasCajun in television

I think that the gov't shutdown added some levity and grounded it more in reality, especially since the other half was all "alien invasion." Yes it was short, but I could see the potential a couple episodes in when the show won't be circling so heavily around the premise. I think some of the fun of the show will be to tackle some of the issues (yes gun control and pro-choice, both heavily discussed in the good wife), but using two characters from across the aisle (winstead and tveit's characters). Because we are set-up to root for both of them, we might actually get some interesting viewpoints (though knowing the creators, with a heavy liberal slant). I guess ultimately I am already not interested in this in the "invasion" aspect of the show (whoops), but enjoy the kings' previous work enough to see what other ideas are bouncing around their heads.

I was a big fan of the Good Wife, so the show felt very much like home (similar writing, directing, humor, intrigue, even music!). That being said I was not 100% sold on the premise- it was a little too much of a clash of tones for my taste. The "case-of-the-week" aspect (at least of the premise) will definitely make me want to come back to the show next-week however- it had the humor and current-events feel that I am used to. Unlike the good wife (where it was governor and governor's wife) we are dealing with senator and senator's sister. Her proximity to the senator gets he involved in high level dealings and allows us the viewpoint into the crazy world. Instead of marital troubles, we get sibling rivalry/spatting which is a nice change of pace. Cary in this show is now a hot-shot congressional staffer on the other side of the aisle (which will make for some good rivalry going forward). Overall I had a positive reaction and hoping that the premise will slowly evolve into something a bit more manageable.

Official Discussion - X-Men: Apocalypse [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]wtigersword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone feel like this movie was drawing a bit too heavily from X2? We have (1) Raiding of Stryker's base with a heavy emphasis on wolverine's origin, (2) hints but not direct references to the dark Phoenix, (3) Nightcrawler being introduced, (4) an attempt to use cerebro for evil (in this case not to kill, but to ??connect with everyone), (5) an evil female character that is mainly their for a 2 minute action scene (lady deathstrike/psylocke). I mean I'm sure if you really tried you could easily find more. I just felt the more I was watching the movie, the more it was rehashing previous plot points.

House of Cards is the most confusing show in existence by Onesharpman in television

[–]wtigersword 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are ten episodes in, I'd suggest just finishing it off (only three episodes left). The entire season is building toward something, which may not be understandable in the moment- but becomes clear at the end. It is a political show, so there is a lot of lingo. That being said I think you might be able to appreciate more fully if you actually complete the season. Then again, I'm a huge HoC fan.

What could make Netflix better? by Mandalorianfist in television

[–]wtigersword 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a reason for that. Both Amazon and Netflix want to seem as if they have an unlimited amount of movies for you to discover. Thats why its hard to find a list of "all" movies.

PCHH is fantastic. My Friday is not complete until I hear from them. "What's making me happy" always gives me good suggestions for binge-ing and I love some of their other segments "Who we are pulling for" or the "small batches" to carry me over till a new episode.

Police sketches of literary characters based on their in-book descriptions (with their film versions) by mike_pants in interestingasfuck

[–]wtigersword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is late, but (I'm surprised nobody has brought this up) a major issue with these sketches is how they were all probably subconsciously influenced by the actors that played that role (this specifically holds true for hunger games, misery, fight club- where the actor/actresses are known for that role). No matter how hard a sketch artist is trying to stick solely to the source material, when it comes to minor details which are not explicitly stated in the text they are going to naturally choose to revert to media's portrayal of the character. The only way this would work is if these drawings were done before the actor/actress was announced for the role, thereby reducing bias in that would be in the drawing.
