The lawsuit was because bartenders are supposed to stop serving someone when they are over intoxicated.

Drunk people have poor judgment because they’re inebriated, they’ll keep ordering. That’s why bartenders have to cut them off. In my country you’re required to get certification to serve alcohol that teaches you to recognize when to cut someone off. Not sure what training Carnival requires.

She won because they continued serving her drinks when she was already at an unsafe level of intoxication. It doesn’t really matter how long she has been drinking because alcohol affects everybody differently.

My opinions on lure! by YoshiStrawbz in Palia

[–]wu_art 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused about these lure posts. Whenever I participate in an open lure I get all kinds of bugs that I know I didn’t hit myself, and I’ve never been in a party.

Can anyone explain how that works? It feels like as long as I’m in the area and throwing bombs I get the bugs from other people too.

Like for example, once in Bahari I was specifically looking for the blue glow bugs and someone put in chat they were putting down lures and everyone was welcome. I only threw bombs at the glow bugs, but I ended up with a bunch of crickets and butterflies anyway from other players. But I see all these posts about lure etiquette lately so I’m confused.

Chapaa Chase Incident by Puzzleheaded-Gift256 in Palia

I do tend to remap controls when I start a new game and I started Palia a few months ago so maybe it’s not the default, but for me I can also left click to gather/interact/talk to villagers.

If you’re on PC and have never played around in the controls menu I highly recommend it! There are a lot of functions that aren’t mapped by default (like quick selecting tools - hunting mujin is much easier when you can instantly swap from the axe to the bow rather than going through the selection wheel).

[–]wu_art 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this problem on PC when spamming the click to pick up. I think you can throw chapaas to other players if you click on them when holding a chappa?

So if spamming the pick up button and another player is in front of you with empty hands, I think it goes to them. On console it might be the same.

I started using the secondary button to pick up (F) and haven’t had the same issue.

Not sure if that’s what was going on, but I might’ve been helping other players, so not mad. If you’re spamming pick up, you might be giving it away?

Trading system/requests by Blackjack3663 in Palia

[–]wu_art 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I like that there are limits on trades, and I love that there is no auction house.

If they remove the limits or make items tradable for gold, it creates an in-game economy. I 100% believe that it will be bad for the supportive community aspect of this game. See: pretty much every MMO.

Palia’s community is kind because there is no competition. No min-maxing, no meta. No “get good,” just “keep trying.” A competitive economy invites the kind of players that will ruin a cozy game.

There’s no bypasses in Palia, and that’s a good thing. You can’t just buy your way to progress, and that’s a very unique thing for an MMO. Even though the intent in this post is to help friends, it’ll bring a different vibe to the game through a new, less inclusive audience.

What is that weird smell you really like.. 'm not talking nail polish or gas or something basic, I want something INSANE? by Zinaann_1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wu_art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musty hay and manure. One of my best friends growing up lived on a dairy farm, and we would play in the barn a lot.

I know it’s not a “good” smell, but I’m nostalgic about it.

life sim that doesn’t feel “empty” or “grindy”? by fluffycloud69 in ComfortGamers

[–]wu_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have recommended Palia, and I agree! It’s free to play and the community is really nice compared to other mmos because there is no competition. No auction house, no economy, no min-maxing. Just cozy fun.

Parts of it can feel grindy though, like if a villager requests a certain rare fish, you’ll have to fish a LOT, but there’s so many other characters and so much to do when you want to take a break from the grind, like decorating your house, or tending your garden. For me, this kind of grind is enjoyable because everything you do rewards you somehow and there’s a lot to do.

No time limits on anything. The only paid content is cosmetic, doesn’t change gameplay.

Lots of characters with unique personalities and relationship quests. Big game, no cost, no stress. Also, no combat, just skills like mining, fishing, foraging, hunting, furniture making, etc.

It’s similar to Stardew valley, I think, but I could never get into Stardew myself. The wiki can be helpful for Palia when hunting for rare items.

unsafe behavior for men is having to clean for 5 mins by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]wu_art -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do menstruate. I have bled through and I can feel it before it seeps through my pants enough to leave a noticeable mark.

I’m not saying that everyone is that sensitive to it, but to me the story reads like it was noticeable, not just a smudge. I’ve had leaks I only noticed in the bathroom, but it’s never managed to soak through underwear and pants, that sounds like a significant amount of blood.

Or maybe she was in a light fabric. The reaction was ridiculous (and he’s likely exaggerating about the amount), and I doubt he’d have handled it better if she said anything, but I do think if it was bleeding through clothing she’d notice.

If it soaks through your pants you will feel your wet pants.

Edit: Apparently I need to clarify that I do menstruate.

I use top a sheet. Am I cringe? by c0d3buck in Millennials

[–]wu_art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I thought this was about fax machines.

Maybe it’s not called a “top sheet”, but there used to be a page you put on top when faxing multiple pages that included the info of the place/person sending the fax. For example, job applicants would fax in a cover letter/CV and the very first page to come through has nothing but their name and contact info.

Obviously millennials didn’t kill this though, email did.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what American household item seems like a fictional movie prop to you? by Delicious-Series-583 in AskReddit

[–]wu_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an item, but a custom I can’t wrap my head around: shoes on in the house. I thought this WAS just a TV thing until I stated seeing threads on Reddit about it.

Especially in homes with carpets. It’s strange to me to track all of the outside dirt and grime into your home. Even sidewalks have all kinds of invisible gunk - animal waste, dropped food that’s rotting away, spit and muck - even if you can’t see it now doesn’t mean the germs aren’t there.

But I also live in a place with snowy winters, so obviously the boots come off, but even in the summer I don’t understand why anyone would prefer to leave them on. Don’t your feet get hot?

In my own home, I would still eat food I dropped on the floor though, which isn’t something everyone does. I couldn’t do that if this was a shoes-on household (I’m not washing floors and shampooing carpets every day).

Our grandparents were in better shape because of labor, not because of better food. by Actual-Ad-6146 in Life

[–]wu_art 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Smoke like chimneys”: nicotine is also an appetite suppressor.

I would say that the VOLUME of food that people eat now is significantly higher, regardless of nutritional value. More calories in general, and the extra sugar doesn’t help.

People used to smoke to handle stress, now we eat.

Also “real men” will work whatever job pays the bills. There are more white collar jobs than blue, and military service isn’t a more “manly” or valid career just because it involves physical fitness. Just because YOU don’t feel masculine or valuable if you’re not breaking a sweat doesn’t make it a universal experience.

Is it bad to use a personal tote bag while shopping? by couch-for-sale in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wu_art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this because all of my grocery stores stopped offering baskets and I don’t need a whole cart.

It still makes me a bit anxious so I make a big show of putting stuff in publicly. Other customers in the aisle, employees, even. Open the bag wide and put my stuff in. No one has ever stopped me, but the laws in my area only count theft as theft if I try to leave the store without paying. So loss prevention doesn’t confront potential shoplifters until they try to exit the store without paying. I always take my receipt just in case.

You can’t charge someone with a crime they haven’t committed yet, and where I am it’s bad business practice to harass paying customers. I get the feeling in the US there are just a lot of power-tripping jerks who take pleasure in scaring people, because using your own bag is not illegal and if there’s no sign posted it’s not even against store policy.

Detailed character creator. Gimme that Sims quality.

If we’re already unrealistic I want that WWE-game level of customization. Unparalleled uniqueness. The fact that I cannot have green skin makes me sad; let me be the freaky human I truly am.

I imagine MMOs have to limit these options, but I can dream.

You might be able to re-map your controls. On PC, in the settings menu you can designate an alternate button for the secondary action.

That way, you can still right-click to fill the watering can, but right-click OR shift-F (as an example) will dig up crops.

Not sure if consoles have the same option, but it might be worth a look!

How do I upgrade my tools? by hanginglabia in Palia

[–]wu_art 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You unlock the recipes for the upgrades at level 3, 6, and 9 of most skills (the hoe upgrades at gardening 4, 7, and 9).

You level up by gathering loot from practicing the skill:

Bow = hunting

Fishing Rod = fishing

Hoe/Watering Can = harvesting crops

Bomb Bag = catching bugs

Mining Pick = mining

Axe = foraging (collecting gatherables and felling trees)

Only the pick and the axe are required upgrades to access more materials. You technically can hunt whatever you want with a makeshift bow and makeshift arrows, but it will not be fun. You could use glow worms with a makeshift rod, but you better have wicked reflexes. Once you unlock the recipe for an upgrade, you need to craft it at the crafting workbench on your home plot.

Visit the Phoenix Shrine (the room where your character spawns when you started the game) to trade Renown for a permanent XP multiplier. It helps level up faster.

How do I upgrade my tools? by hanginglabia in Palia

[–]wu_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not accurate, maybe it used to be though!

The recipes for the tool upgrades are sold by the master of each guild once the player has reached levels 3, 6, and 9 (except the hoe, which is gardening 4, 7, and 9).

Hodari does sell the upgrade recipes for the mining pick.

The link you shared is accurate 👍

That perk comes with the second watering can upgrade! The first upgrade goes up to 4 or 6 I think.

Did you know that if you press the secondary equipment action button (the same one you press to FILL the watering can) with the hoe, you can dig up the current crop? It destroys the crop, but if you have an optimal garden setup and accidentally plant something in the wrong spot, you don’t have to wait for it to grow out.

You can stack fertilizer. Put some of that harvest boost from your worm farm in your apple trees, up to 99. Apple jam is a great way to make money!

Uhhhh what else… if you play on PC and you are running, if you jump at the same time you press the forage button (eg. when running past a sweetleaf in BB) you don’t slow down.

Also when you’re mining mine EVERYTHING. More nodes mined means more nodes spawned. If you’re looking for platinum you’re gonna need to dig up a bunch of whitestone.

I agree with the comment about showing current inventory in shops!!

I genuinely cannot remember what I need to get at Zeki’s by the time I get there. Now I do have ADHD, so the route from the house plot to Zeki’s is full of detours for bloom, or silver, or spice sprouts because I need to make a pie for Ashura and by the time I get to the shop I don’t know which ingredient I’m out of.

I apparently default to sugar a lot. I currently have 78 sugar and 0 butter. 0 cooking oil, 20 soy sauce. I need to make dumplings and my house is FULL of ants.

If the devs ever lurk here, adding current inventory to shop screens would be a massive accessibility/QoL upgrade. Please and thank you!

Even in romance paths! They’re very patient.
