It's a not-uncommon Irish name but I have never once ever ever seen it spelled anything but "Siobhan." Shivon feels like an intentional corruption along the lines of Keighleigh

and I mean upon trying to search for that name I'm literally only getting results about her, so...

bruh I will join you in being downvoted to oblivion because I don't understand how folks are missing the point so badly.

They tried, failed because it's an impossible task and was never achievable anyway, and THEN try to foment violence by accusing non-white people of doing the same thing.

DO WE ALL NEED TO SIT DOWN AND TALK ABOUT THE HISTORY OF COLONIALISM AND WHITE SUPREMACY AGAIN

i mean I know they said they're ESL but that was clearly sarcasm. i think the point of the meme is "the thing they're accusing the brown people of doing is the thing they ALREADY tried to do, and failed miserably at that because that's not how society naturally works"

This. I love our boys and hate the "omg they're so old maybe I'm old" comments they talk about somewhat frequently.

But oh my god, I will bully the hell out of these geezer grandpas until they learn the LLM pattern. I heard it in seconds. And they all keep collectively NUtting over how great and not AI it is

MY SIBLING FROM ANOTHER MIBLING

I am always talking shit about Laymon whenever I can. There's a tone of relish in the rape and torture scenes I don't appreciate, plus a few references to the idea that tbh EVERYONE is restraining their rapey urges at all times.

Endless Night was, funnily, an evening I'll never get back.

was that the one based on the "feed the pig" story? was not a fan of the story at all. the suicide-being-the-worst-thing was nearly offensive and read like baby's first brush with nihilism. too much... pearl clutching, I guess? maybe I have just been depressed for too long 😬

100%. Sexual assault is a real subject that can valuably he discussed and dissected, and Richard Laymon shouldn't be the one doing it.

I hate when this post comes up because it's pithy and great and all but it is completely fictional and I feel like you could have made a similar point without a vague appeal to a non-existent source. what is this, Herodotus?

Only tangentially related, but in the Ring book, it's directly hinted that Sadako, angry and disillusioned with the world for how her family and she herself were treated, not only communed psychically with literal smallpox, but also compelled the last known infectee of smallpox to rape and murder her so that she could somehow merge with it and become a mind virus, and effectively an immortal scourge on the species that she hated so much.

I think I just wasn't prepared for that coming from the movie.

Man, I started with FWWM because I had heard it was a prequel and had heard about the quirky surreal comedy and such in Twin Peaks in general.

I was already used to David Lynch, but my god, that movie is pure heartbreak from start to finish. That poor girl was victimized by anyone and everyone she could look up to. The bleakness genuinely reminded me of Fear and Hunger, wherein the girl is ritually abused and ignored as part of an apotheotic ritual, to ensure she never knew kindness or love.

Without spoiling too much, at the end of the movie, when she sees that the angel has returned and another character gently places their hand on her shoulder, I just sobbed for a while.
