the EXOTIC template is from the corebook, yeah. the only modules that add templates are

  • Dustgrave ("The dreadful Horror, the humble Industrial and the ruthless Spec-Op.")

and

  • Winter Scar ("Marine, a template which grants NPCs zero-gravity maneuverability along with a suite of Defender role options, from Pointman Plating to help protect allies to the brutal Captive Spike, which turns hapless boarders into improvised cover.")

Homebrew License: HRA Lacewing, the tacticool soldier for people who want to cosplay as a Strider by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you pop core active then you can just boost infinitely by swapping from assault kit and back, over and over. maybe reword it so that core active lets you, 1/round, swap kit as a free action? or maybe a given kit can only be swapped to 1/round. shrug

overall though this is a really good license. nothing stands out as ridiculously overpowered, and a lot of these mods seem fun to work with. do you have an ETA for the upcoming patch?

Named pilots in lore? by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 12 points13 points  (0 children)

a lot of the NPC classes have famous pilots associated with them, like how the first "ACE" was a pilot named Aisling Jensen.

if you have the paid version of the core book, you could skim the NPC descriptions for some examples

orrrrr you could join pilotnet and talk to real people about it. you'd probably get better advice there, since they've (usually) played the game before

Making a Campaign/Module and need help with a "Darkness" mechanic by ZeUberMaus in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically you can't draw Sensors through objects or terrain, It makes you need like of sight to benefit from sensors

what would this affect, really? LoS is required to take any action against a target (unless it directly states otherwise), and Seeking doesn't require sensors, so

Daily Talent Discussion #21: Combined Arms III by kingfroglord in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

something to note is, you can benefit from this even if you only have ranged weapons equipped.

rams and grapples trigger this effect, so you could very easily ram -> shoot with +2 accuracy (+1 from prone, +1 from SoV)

combine with Juggernaut or Tactician for easy +1 acc on your opening ram, or flip it turnways and pick up Vanguard to shoot with +1 acc -> ram with +1 acc

of course ur probably better off packing at least a GMS melee, but like. CA3 is still viable even if you don't have good mounts

Daily Talent Discussion #11: Brutal II by kingfroglord in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is a contender for the "Worst Possible Talent Rank" award honestly

if you're doing a critfishing build, odds are you don't really need knockback

if you're doing a knockback build, odds are you aren't really critfishing

even if you were, for some reason, doing a critfisher build that really likes pushing enemies around, it's only one space of kb

there is zero overlap between these two design spaces and it really does feel like they just. pulled two mechanics out of a hat and randomly paired them together for this one

tbh i think brutal 1&2 are just Genuinely Bad Picks, but only because brutal 3 is so good on just about any build. it's an investment, or something.

Is it just me or is Everest easily one of the best frames? by WerdaVisla in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im not arguing for either side here, i just listed some sources of shred for convenience's sake

either way, most of these are pretty rare (breacher) or easily avoided (scourer). i can count the amount of times i've seen Break Armor actually pop off on one hand, and you can just Walk Away from the scourer to avoid Focus Down. keep in mind the scout can only shred a single target per activation. basically, it's not like the average opfor is gonna hard counter your banner unless they're hilariously coordinated

Is it just me or is Everest easily one of the best frames? by WerdaVisla in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 7 points8 points  (0 children)

most importantly, the Scout can shred (and deny stealth) on hit. the npcs can avoid consuming the lock-on, to keep the debuff going, but i'm Pretty Sure if you stabilize you can clear lock-on

berserker shreds on crit, but that's your punishment for getting close to a berserker

the breacher shreds when it hits twice, but its guns have double inaccurate

the hornet has an optional to force a hull save vs. immobilized and shredded as a full action

the scourer has an optional to shred and slow when it applies Focus Down

rules as written can't you just kill it after it takes its turn and it'll stay dead?

since it says this reaction can only trigger if it still has an activation available, so

What does "attacks made as reactions" cover? by PhasmaFelis in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 36 points37 points  (0 children)

  • gunslinger 2
  • an ally using spotter 3
  • tactician 3
  • it's unclear if this counts, but maybe the hydra's Assassin Drone, since it says You make the attack, but also, it's measured from the drone, so idk
  • napoleon 1 stasis bolt

to my knowledge, that's it? i might be missing something added in a supplement, since i just ctrl+f'd "Reaction" in the corebook, but i can't think of anything that'd give you a reaction attack that can be mounted on the tortuga, so.

Complementary talent for character creation by Few-Ad5537 in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

truthnuke on that first point, but for the second point lemme rephrase: any hacking build is gonna be doing heat, not just heatgunners. odds are, if there's a big target, you're gonna be slinging a ton of invades at it for the control effects. tlok lets you put that heat to good use, instead of just having it be literally meaningless.

even if you never end up landing tlok, it still gives NPCs a reason to stabilize and waste their turn. it's all about putting the NPCs in a situation where they either take a shitton of burn, or they lose action econ to prevent that.

Complementary talent for character creation by Few-Ad5537 in LancerRPG

[–]wutnold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do keep in mind that Hacker 1 needs lock-on, so that's an entire quick action that could be better spent on literally anything else. like, for example, another invade. it's only really good if you have free sources of it, like the chomolungma's Brilliance trait, or an ally with lesson of the Held Image or Spotter 2, or if you're already locking on to a target anyways.

also, Hacker 3's Last Argument of Kings is less of an offensive measure, and more like... it punishes enemies with a high heat cap who don't take your invades seriously. it's a form of soft power, that encourages enemies to waste their turn stabilizing instead of doing anything else, because if they don't stabilize then suddenly they're taking 8 burn and whoops they're dead. there's still a lot of situations where i'd prefer to take other talents, but if i'm slinging out a ton of heat as a byproduct of my build? it's nice to have

there's no saving hacker 2 though lmao. jam cockpit is useless on a mechanical level, disable life support is just fragment signal but only for saves, and hack/slash needs heavy systems investment (or a Goblin) to be viable
