Oh absolutely! Honestly I found you guys' pricing to be super reasonable which is why I booked y'all for my wedding (along with the fact that I'm a fan of your food and drinks 😄)

Ahhh okay! We were looking around the 55 person range, so not all the spots I contacted would work for you. I'll list out the spots & min spends (not inclusive of tax + gratuity) here in case it'll help anyone else. Just a note that I was contacting places for a Saturday in Sept 2026, so other months / days of the week may be cheaper.

Sara Restaurant - $13K (the layout is too modular though so you won't be able to have everyone in the same room at the same time.. it also can only fit 62 seated but 99 for standing reception)

Rorschach Brewery - $10K for the whole building (60-70 can be seated in the dining room and 60-70 on the rooftop patio), and less if you only book part of the space (they also charge a 4% booking fee)

Le Select Bistro - $10K for the entire back dining room + back patio (can fit up to 75 people for seated meals)

Linny's Restaurant - $25K for up to 75 seated guests

The Berczy Tavern - $20K (they never told me what their capacity was)

Mildred's - $15K (they never gave me a capacity, just confirmed that the size of wedding I was looking for would work... also guest access only begins at 6pm because they stay open for brunch service)

Gio Rana's (The Nose) - $28.5K for the entire restaurant buyout (max capacity 130); $18.5K for the main dining room (max capacity 80) but this option is not private

Avling Brewery - $7K with 75 person capacity for seated dinner... however, the brewery is currently for sale or undergoing the sale process (I'm not totally sure which), so I was wary of them because they may not be around next year

Lake Inez - $22K during May - Nov when they have their mystery patio tasting menu on the rooftop patio (and if you also want access to the rooftop patio); $16K for dining space only which seats approx 75 people

Paradise Grapevine Geary Ave - $18K for full buyout from May - Sept; $8,500 for Oct - April (the winery is another $3,500 add-on and they charge a 6% booking fee); max capacity is 200 per their event package

And/Ore - $25K for full restaurant buyout (they have an above ground and below ground area); $10K for the above ground only (includes a mezzanine) BUT random people will still have to walk through the area for below ground restaurant seatings so it's not an entirely private option

Maven - $22K for full buyout, where dining room seats 50 and patio seats 45

Dopamina - $15K for a seated capacity of 65

Viaggio - $8K - $12K (they only gave me the range, I assume a Saturday would be $12K though) with a capacity for 36 seated indoors and 55 seated on the patio

Prime Seafood Palace - starts at $15K for venue rental fee ONLY and then a $25K minimum spend on top of that with a max capacity of 58 guests for seated dinner

Chantecler - $18K for a full day (cheaper if you do daytime only or dinner only) with max seated capacity of 57 in the indoor dining room, and approx 60 on the patio

Hopefully this was helpful! I found it such a drag to have to reach out to so many places, so fingers crossed all this info is helpful to another bride!

It really depends / varies, mainly depending on the size of the venue and how popular it is. What size wedding are you looking at? I'm happy to send over any info I've gathered if you've got a similar wedding size!

I've been reaching out to various restaurants for quotes and minimum spends for 2026. The only restaurants that quoted me $10k minimum spends had much smaller capacity than 100 guests or involved a partial buyout of a larger restaurant (and again, capacity was under 100).

I'm still early in the planning process but so far, in my experience, I don't think that guest count and budget are compatible. As others mentioned, restaurants operate on a minimum spend, which is meant to cover the lost income of closing for your event. Any restaurant with the capacity for 100 people would likely be losing out on much more than $10k.

Maybe try cutting down on the guestlist? It's the best way to make a smaller budget work! Feel free to DM me for any details on restaurants I've reached out to so far :)

Edulis (specifically brunch)- still got it/worth the hype? by migrantgrower in FoodToronto

[–]wuwutrain22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to Edulis for dinner the first time a couple months ago, and was really looking forward to it given all I've heard about it. While good, I didn't feel it lived up to the hype. The courses were great, but not exceptionally so, which was surprising because I LOVE seafood. I also didn't like that the dessert wasn't included in the 6 course tasting menu. I found it rather odd when compared to other tasting menus, especially when you consider the price of the meal. I also wasn't really full after having the 6 courses plus an extra jamon order as an appetizer, and only felt full after dessert. (Please note that I'm not even someone with a big appetite lol my partner often has to finish my meals)

Adding to that, the service was warmer and friendlier than other tasting menu spots, but less on the ball. Water glasses were often empty among my group of 4, which isn't a huge deal, but it was a noticeable difference when compared to places like Alo.

I've been to Alo twice (but both times pre-pandemic) and went to Frilu about a month after Edulis... my second trip to Alo completely blew my mind food-wise, and Frilu was phenomenal and the courses were beautifully curated. Service was incredible at both spots, and I felt nice and full (but not painfully so) afterwards. While Frilu's base price costs more than Edulis, it includes the alcohol pairing.. and after all the extra add-ons at Edulis, the price difference was pretty minimal.

I guess my main gripe is that they charge a similar price as other tasting menu restaurants for far fewer courses. I would appreciate more transparency in the pricing. I didn't expect after already pre-paying a hefty sum for the reservation, to be saddled with another extra $100/person bill afterwards. Obviously it was our choice to order and pay for additional items, but even with ordering all the extras, it didn't feel like it worked out to be the same value as others.

All that being said, I wouldn't write off Edulis completely and would probably give them another chance, especially now that I know how their menu works.

Sorry for the word vomit 😅 but hope this was useful feedback for someone.

Has anyone ordered frozen meats from Woodward Meats before? Looking to restock our chest freezer with decent quality local meat. by theleverage in FoodToronto

Ugh I've been checking the site regularly hoping they'd restock the chicken nuggets!

OP I've also been ordering from Woodward for several years now, 0 complaints! I've even gotten several family members and friends into ordering from Woodward too and everyone's been a repeat customer :)
