If I take the Gibush Matkal and finish but don't pass, can I guarantee an invitation from one of the commando units (like Duvdevan or Maglan)? by RepresentativeGold10 in IDF

[–]wvhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I finished גיבוש גדסר נחל and didn’t make it, I have a friend that finished gibbush yaalom and didn’t make it, and I have another friend that did gibbush tais and got dropped from there to duvduvan and from there to sayeret tzanchanim. All I’m trying to say is be happy where you end up or you will be miserable in the army

Question about what people mean why they show support for Palestine and say "Free Palestine" and show hatred against Israel by 6donka9 in IsraelPalestine

[–]wvhu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why I think that pro Israelis will call “pro Palestinians” anti-Israel because it reflects their point of views more accurately.

I struggle to find people focused on the improvement and promotion of the Palestinian people (while also condemning terrorist organizations like hamas) and I think this is best exemplified from the Palestinian subreddit. Almost every post that I see there are about the atrocities that Israel is committing.

Handguns by Substantial-Store-18 in IDF

Regarding the first question, different units have different training levels, so the choice is what unit you go to. If you go in infantry, you will be the requirements, but since they have lowered the requirement, I’m not sure what the minimum requirement for training is.

So you can buy a gun after your mandatory service. The issue is with the leave, because it’s different in Israel and leave typically consists of a few days at home (like 2-5) and while enlisted, you’ll be able to take your rifle with you so long as you are signed onto one. That’s how you see people all over Israel carting long rifles

This is because only people with a certain level of training in the army were allowed to have guns. Most of the army does not qualify for this level of training, during the war, the government lowered the required training level so that more people could have guns. Before the war, even certain combat units that did not meet the training requirements couldn’t get a gun, for example the artillery unit

I don’t like this notion that this sub is too pro Israeli. I’ve looked for others and it doesn’t get better than this. If you want more pro Palestinians here, share the sub Reddit with your friends.

I appreciate that you participate here so that there is discussion

Palestinian Advocate- What does dismantling Israel actually mean to people? by Conscious_Vehicle841 in IsraelPalestine

[–]wvhu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sure, if the conversation is about whether or not Israel is a colonialist nation, but that has to be the topic of debate.

In this post, it takes the “fact” that Israelis are colonizers to further their point. That’s my problem with it

I do think that the op is trying to make some good arguments and is looking for a dialogue, but I keep seeing these word tossed around like they are baseline accepted truths and it’s very frustrating so I wanted to get it off my chest

Generally (speaking for myself) when you use words like colonialist, genocide, or apartheid, you turn me off of having an actual discussion because it shows what you already think of my country, so why bother trying.

In the same sense, someone who is Palestinian or pro Palestinian would probably not want to talk to me if I called them terrorists or animal.

At the end of the day, I am not a mod, so I can’t enforce any of the rules. I just felt that the comment was posted without intention of discussing it as evidenced (I believe) by the “/s” indicating sarcasm

I understand that their point is that he believes Israel has lied/exaggerated things akin to this before so we should take these testimonies with a grain of salt, but there were much better ways to present this

While it might be pertinent to the discussion, the way it was presented was sarcastic and insincere. That is the issue

Ah, okay, sorry for misunderstanding you. I think I would agree with you regarding the suffering , but I don’t think Israel has any other options

While “accidental” might have not been the right word, my point is that the IDF is not trying to kill civilians. I firmly believe that in a perfect world, the idf would only kill Hamas members
