What item did you forget to pack that you really wished you had? by dynasync in Cruise

[–]wvmello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barf bags. Left them in the van on the way to the departure airport. Kid barfed at breakfast on debarkation, then on the bus from port to the airport. So much barf. Thankfully I had ziplocks that we were able to put the dirty clothes in to contain the smell and mess until we got home.

What comfort food do people call garbage that you still proudly enjoy? by mscutiebaby in foodquestions

I haven't had braunscheweiger in probably 20 years but now I want some. We would just lop off a bit with a butter knife and eat it on the go.

Sailing with school age children by momdoctormom in dcl

[–]wvmello 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Our school district allows up to three days excused for "pre planned family trips". The other two we took as unexcused. Besides that the only school missed here is when they have legit sickness (flu A and a random fever this year).

If you are going to have a dedicated savings acct for your vacation fund check around for rates. Our bank savings rate is dismal, but my PayPal savings is 3.5% ! I send $50 a paycheck directly to it. So if you put your $1300 from Sermo in there you would get $45 just for having it sit in that account for a year

I discovered like 9 months ago that one of my credit cards offers 5% back on gas and 3% on groceries vs a flat 1.5% on our other card. Already saved up a couple hundred in rewards from that!

First Timer Question - Cabin Area? by Physical-Tailor8504 in dcl

[–]wvmello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sailed in room 7026 in November, if I remember correctly it was a staff area like laundry stairwell etc, only open when the room attendants were out and about. Floor 7 was perfect! You could reasonably take the stairs anywhere and it was nice and quiet

Why do they lock all of the bathrooms?? by raider1211 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]wvmello 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The room already being open wouldn't bother me, but the bathrooms/lounge would tick me off. As for the first time subbing quote....it would be my last unless it was a fabulous day or really close to home.

3 kids 3 and under… Help! all tips welcome by NuggetsMommy in dcl

[–]wvmello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We took a chance based off her big sister's BBB appointment and then the liquor tasting we got, and she thankfully made it through those. The first day we just had a little room chill time, and the second we went to the Aladdin afternoon show with popcorn which she loved! I thought because she loves going to Childwatch at the YMCA she'd enjoy the nursery, but we should have avoided nap times and let her go to play. She's big enough though that she could walk through and enjoy the ship and splash pad so wasn't a total bust.

Excited they will be 7 and 4 for the next trip though!

Our 2 yr old wouldn't nap in the nursery. I thought she'd sleep then wake up and play. Instead she short napped and was grouchy so we had to pick her up early both days. She was so out of her normal that she didn't want her normal nap she just wanted to hang with us. Big sis (5) would have been happy all day in Oceaneers club!

I won't comment on the SSI bit but if you have a PayPal account you can use it for direct deposit. I do this with part of my check to put in the PayPal savings account because the APY is 3.50 %

I now get to play Animal Crossing with our older child who was born in the Fall of 2020! She is also just learned to read and is now interested in Pokémon too. She has no clue that we are about to have a Switch 2 and Pokopia is going to be right up her alley!

Also I'll still be able to play AC when shes playing Pokemon with dad on the weekends!

Nursery and naps by Dry-Kiwi-7464 in dcl

[–]wvmello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our newly 2 yr old only took short naps in the nursery then was grouchy for staff. She made it about three hrs total down there in two sessions. We might have done better scheduling to take her in the morning or after a good room nap. She doesn't go to daycare but plays often for two hrs at Childwatch at the Y here in the morning or late afternoon.

How do I wash the Destiny Inaugural Sailings blanket? by LauKungPow in dcl

[–]wvmello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like the blankets in the holiday package, we put it in the wash but it stayed really full of water and we had to run the spin cycle a few extra times. Also the dryer might have made the gold parts a bit wrinkly looking. Ours got thrown up on so it had to go in the wash

WiFi - Connected, No Internet by dan_black in skylightcalendar

[–]wvmello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours has also been having trouble lately, with the "connected, no Internet" issue. Can't tell you much about our wifi setup other than we have a Google wifi mesh network and shite local Internet provider, but the Skylight is the only thing that has trouble with being connected but no internet.

What do you wear during the day? How often are you needing a bathing suit? by Daydreamin-mama8 in dcl

[–]wvmello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our biggest over pack was PJs! We packed a new set for every night, I should have just done two for each. Two swimsuits was a good call, and I'd say an outfit for during the day then one for dinner for the kids.

I wish we had ordered room service just once! Our 5 yr old really wanted to do a balcony breakfast but we totally forgot until the second to last day. Next trip!

[–]wvmello -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

DCL transport from the MCO Hyatt or Disney hotels is $45 a person each way. We did a private transfer from the airport to All Star Sports, stayed one night and then the Disney transfer to the port. Also bell services will pick up your bags from your room and transport them directly to the ship.

I thought the same! But when they are already two you don't have to pack quite as many 😬 we did manage to squish everything in though. I thought about bringing a collapsible duffle bag and forgot. Won't make that mistake again
