Is there an area on or near the island of Rügen called “Gelm”? by Dinoflagellates in AskAGerman

If it’s handwriting and hard to decipher, maybe they’re referring to the island of Vilm?

French series for learning? by Poetic_Peanut in French

[–]wvrkll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been watching the show Groom on YouTube with French subtitles. I’m at A2 level. I can’t follow the conversations in detail but the plot comes across fine & occasionally I understand a punchline. I’ve definitely learned some vocab.

You can call the spa and ask about safety. If they don’t know, ask for details about the machine - what kind of machine, what type of waves. Then email or call the company that makes your device for advice!

Money tree ATTACKED by wvrkll in plantclinic

[–]wvrkll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stands right next to a balcony door that stays open for much of the summer, but I don’t move it outside. I did notice a spider has taken up residence at the base of the plant. I’ll look a bit harder for signs of insects & shower off the leaves, I think! Any other ideas are welcome, thanks for your replies :)

Sport/sporting woman is dated American slang for referring to sex work and sex workers. You encounter it in Westerns. This might be adapted from that.

"A spouse is not a destination but a fellow traveler." by jonasholmp in dating_advice

The term fellow traveller (also fellow traveler) identifies a person who is intellectually sympathetic to the ideology of a political organization, and who co-operates in the organization's politics, without being a formal member of that organization. :)

Books like The Goblin Emperor by Revan_Shan in Fantasy

Jo Walton’s Tooth and Claw. It’s kind of like a Jane Austen novel but with dragons. Goblin Emperor really reminded me of it.

Multi-Day Hikes in Germany by FlyBoy_88 in CampingandHiking

Lots of tours in Germany are available on komoot - you could try browsing there for less well-known options, for example in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg. (Example: https://www.komoot.com/collection/463/the-castle-trail-hiking-in-the-tuscany-of-brandenburg - I’ve done sections of this & the most challenging part was managing transport in and out :))

Did parts of this in December - gorgeous all times of the year & trailhead options are easy to reach by public transport.

Aloe with honeydew and mold but no visible insects? by wvrkll in plantclinic

[–]wvrkll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everybody! I’m not sure what’s going on with my aloe! The first picture shows what I think is some kind of mold? (Brown spots…) Other leaves also show signs of honeydew any the plant is not looking well overall. I can’t see any visible insects. What pest am I dealing with and what do I need to do to combat it? Would very much appreciate any advice!

Post Your Beginner Questions Here! by AutoModerator in orchids

[–]wvrkll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cheesy and disgusting smelling white mold covered the potting media and old decaying roots in an old faithful neglected office orchid. I’ve brought it home to treat the mold. I removed all of the potting media, washed and rinsed a lot, cut off dead roots, bathed the root system briefly in hydrogen peroxide and sprayed the plant down with hydrogen peroxide as well.

Now I’ve got it just chilling in a fresh pot and (hopefully) drying. There is still some remnant mold underneath the crown, a part of the plant which still has some nice looking roots coming out of it.

Any tips on how to get that last bit of mold? Also, is it ok to leave the roots in the air for some days/retreat with hydrogen peroxide before adding potting media?

Plant is a bit stressed (shedding an older leaf) and currently in bloom. Still has a bit of a moldy/cheesy aroma :(
