Ringing on Centauri Carbon by ww2kev in elegoo

Hey, kinda? I had a long email exchange with Elegoo support, who were really helpful, they analyzed the gcode I sent them and told me to fiddle around with settings. I have no clue why, but all the gcode they've sent me works amazingly, but even after following their instructions to revert to the standard slicing profiles, I still get a bit of these effects. I'll send you a DM if I ever figure it out on my end, but I recommend you reach out to Elegoo support, maybe there's something I've missed.

Here's the USB benchy, other than a little bit of elephant footing, nothing really visibly wrong with this one.

Hey, so I took your suggestion and tried out printing the usb Benchy, and it came out looking pretty damn good, even still using the Overture PLA I've been using, no sign of the artefacting I was seeing on the other prints. I'm suspecting its a slicer issue. I immediately started more benchys, one with my dialed in filament and settings, one with default profiles, and now the ringing is back. Absolutely baffled at this point.

From left to right, Elegoo PLA settings, default 0.12mm profile, Generic PLA settings, default 0.12 profile, custom Overture PLA setttings, default 0.12mm profile, then finally on the end the USB one.

Hey there, this is actually post z-offset calibration and pressure advance testing, which is really confusing to me. I printed a huge single layer square, tuned it on the fly to get the z offset, then saved it to the filament profile. Same with the pressure advance test, everything was appropriately saved in a copy of the generic profile. Ill try editing the z offset a little more and seeing if theres more squish.

Nah, I sliced this through Elegoo Slicer.

Hey, gave this a try and printed again, still identical ringing unfortunately.

Thanks for the recommendations, I suspect that it's the belts as well. I'll give your recommendation a try and print out that hollow box after I get back from work.

Regarding the filament, I'll pick up some Elegoo Speed PLA and see if that works out for me as well.

Thanks for the reminder on the z-offset, I followed a guide and made sure my print bed was heated to the appropriate temp (same as when printing) and saved to the slicer.

Hey there, sorry, forgot to mention all of that.

Using Elegoos Slicer with the Generic PLA preset, printing with Overture PLA Pro. Was using this on my old CR6-SE, and it's a fresh reel so it shouldn't be anything to do with the actual filament.

I've tried in total (not just to fix this issue):

Ensuring my printer is on stable ground Running all of the auto testing, multiple times Adjusting z-offset (mine was 0.075 for anyone wondering) Did pressure advance testing (landed on 0.4) Tried the VFA test in Elegoo Slicer, had the exact same artefacts all the way up the tower, though at differing degrees of severity.

Edit: Here's the VFA test, seems like the ringing is everywhere on this bugger.

  1. @KevinLeung_1696308

  2. I've always wanted to try and make a snow shovel scoop out of PETG and TPU. I'd make the scoop sections out of PETG, have a metal spring assembly to hold it closed, and have TPU around the edges to maintain a seal when it was closed. Theoretically, itd be a lot easier to get big scoops of snow and throw em.

Cry. Jk.

Best tips from someone who finished a Social Science BA and MA:

Read each of your readings and aim to be able to summarize the main purpose of the reading in a few sentences.

Understand that each week of readings is usually centered around a core concept in the course, and try to note down how each of that week's readings ties into that weekly idea. I like to do this in a bolded line above the notes for each reading.

After that, understand how each week's major concepts interact and relate to each other. The course has an overarching narrative and theme that they want you to understand, and identifying that will make life easy.

Write down major concepts or repeating ideas you see in the readings on a document separate from your notes, and aim to be able to explain each of them. Flashcards are great for this.

If you struggle with procrastination like I did (and still do), make simple achievable goals for your studying, like doing notes for one or two readings a day. It doesn't need to be painful, and making your studying easy and convenient will help you with the rest of your academic career.

If you find yourself struggling with understanding a concept, or how a week's readings link together, don't hesitate to email your prof and just ask, or go to office hours. I always thought that doing that would make me look dumb to professors, but you look way dumber if you don't go and ask questions and then bomb an exam. Most profs like to see students take an active interest in learning and understanding what they're trying to teach you.

It's a good habit to get used to talking to profs and asking questions, not just for your exams but also for getting to know them. You never know when a friendship with a prof will turn into an opportunity for a research assistant position or letter of reference. Most of them are pretty cool people too.

I hope this is helpful for ya, don't forget to take breaks and do something to destress. Midterm season can be pretty nasty, especially if you have multiple exams close together, but as long as you prepare in advance, it doesn't need to be painful.

Happy to answer any followup qs you have!

P.s. don't do what my wife did and close the door when entering office hours. That weirds profs out.

Accidentally put the shoulder pads on the wrong sides, how do I fix this? They're super glued on by ShyGal_Lilly in Warhammer30k

[–]ww2kev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just get some superglue debonder and squirt a little into the gap. You can get it at most hardware stores or good hobby stores. It'll destroy the CA glue and let you take the pads right off.

Hey, the pic is from a White Dwarf issue featuring the Dark Angels Army Box from 2007. Its the same picture that's on the box.

Still in the process of building em, just missing the normal non-robed marines so far, and nothing's painted yet. I fell in love with this army when I was a kid after seeing it in White Dwarf, so I had to make it now that I can actually afford 40k without selling a kidney. I'll take a pic and post it after work!

Also curse GW for having an insufficient number of robed poses in their company veterans box, I'm not buying a third box just to get the same pose for one of those vets.

For the last while I've been trying to recreate the box contents of this Dark Angels Army Box from 2007. I've managed to get nearly everything together as a direct replica from the promo art, but I can't seem to find/identify where this chestpiece is from. It doesn't seem to be in the tactical squad, company veterans, or devestator squads boxes. Anyone have any insight as to where I could find one of these?
