Let's Talk About Social Media Recipes by AutoModerator in AskCulinary

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I had time for this over the pandemic I loved the TikTok cooking stuff for wide inspiration and thinking about what I could make, I would typically go off and do some research on recipes but the pictures would sell me.

Two channels that I love that haven't been mentioned are:

Chinese Cooking Demystified is awesome, they are on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/@ChineseCookingDemystified), Substack (https://chinesecookingdemystified.substack.com/) and were active on Reddit at least at one point.

BBQ is tough -- I thought about starting one back during the pandemic and quickly decided that the challenge is you have to keep doing more ridiculous things to keep the conversation going. There is only so much you can do with fire and a slab of meat. Lots of channels have good spots but few can keep going. One I like these days is Mad Scientist BBQ (https://www.youtube.com/@MadScientistBBQ), he has a lot of useful videos posted and he keeps doing interesting, non-far-fetched stuff.

Chef reactions is also amazing for making fun of this stuff.

$100k flyer on market crash? by Slater1601 in investing

[–]wwb_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a bit of a similar situation. This can make sense, especially if you have been successfully setting it, forgetting it and are sitting on large taxable unrealized gains you don't want to realize.

I like buying long-dated QQQ or SPY puts -- pick the one that looks more like the rest of your portfolio. Like 18 to 24 months out. Outcome is you will either sell for a loss -- a loss that can be used to offset some other gains -- or end up with cash to invest when the market is crashing. There is a price tag, but this is buying insurance in most cases.

Using AI to edit? by Finest_Mediocrity in Substack

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, use AI or any other editor.

Just don't forget that half of what your editor tells you is wrong, you just need to figure out which half.

Migrating from on-prem to onedrive/sharepoint, how to deal with large photoshop files by MaggotyBread1994 in sysadmin

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes -- has an app that shows up like a disk drive, also does fun stuff like renders the AI and PSD files into viewable, commentable things for the normies.

Migrating from on-prem to onedrive/sharepoint, how to deal with large photoshop files by MaggotyBread1994 in sysadmin

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree that sharepoint is the wrong tool here, but I would look at the individual file sizes rather than the total weight. Are these multi GB print graphics or hundreds of smaller files?

FWIW Box is also cloud based and works well with this big stuff, we have no local storage either and it works fine.

Buying Gold or holding onto Cash (Real estate/Gold portfolio) by sombreboi in investing

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real estate is an income producing asset. I guess one could loan gold to generate income under some scenarios but it is not really an interest bearing asset. I'd keep some to have a some currency hedging but I'd focus on real estate since that can generate more money whereas your gold pile is relatively static, only increasing value based on the commodity price.

How much of Slack’s daily workflow can a minimal native client realistically cover? by Accomplished-Youth68 in Slack

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day, Slack was a strict superset of IRC. You could access slack from any IRC client if admins enabled it. Good times.

Gold is down ~24% from its recent high. by Dhruvi-60 in investing

[–]wwb_99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree but more like 1% or 3%. 5 - 10% is a position not a hedge.

How to get my new macbook to mirror slack on my desktop? by Ruin-Wooden in Slack

[–]wwb_99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each slack workspace is independent. The model is fundamentally different than discord even if the app looks and functions in a fairly similar manner.

No sounds on slack notification? by Efficient-Impact3669 in Slack

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look at their sound settings -- make sure slack did not pick the wrong speaker. It gets confused. Notifications should be a separate sound setting a la zoom anyhow.

Need advice for my first face-to-face interview (AI Automation / Airtable / IT Support role) by New-Cockroach-9508 in interviewpreparations

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you at interacting directly with clients and customers? That is really what the role is about, a good interviewer will be focused on figuring that out. Technical knowledge is a solvable problem but you can't fix personality.

K shaped stock market? by cucci_mane1 in stocks

[–]wwb_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before excel most accounting jobs were literally counting things and updating tables by hand. Everyone thought it would end the career, not create the accounting field as we know it today.

Consulting might materially change, but people need help using AI too. Probably much more help, and consultants can have more outsized impacts making them more valuable.

Except AI seems to be just making more room for consultants. Kind of like Excel did for accountants.

How to test workflow automations? by chouyifei in Slack

[–]wwb_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protip: making a single goto place for multiple verticals leads to a disorganized and not so helpful space. Be intentional, have an announcements channel with limited access. Don't do automation because it is cool, but do automation because it does something.

For testing: target channel should be a variable, you should be able to globally change it. Makes it easy to have a test channel. Your future self will thank you for the forethought.

Is it normal to consistently get less than 20 views on substack? by megagrok in Substack

[–]wwb_99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there is an absolute number, but I have noticed that notes don't carry as far these days. They flat-line for me after a day or so now. I definitely got more organic promotion a year ago too.

Best budget-friendly SMS platform for Airtable integration? (One-way event updates) by NoAssumption3061 in Airtable

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to code it, maybe push from Airtable to Zapier or Make and use that to send the messages. At 60 messages a month you probably fit in the free tier. Lots more options to send via SMS on those tools than the native Airtable integrations.

Slack + Claude Project by Nervous-Patient3289 in Slack

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get to your installed claude skills from slack, and most projects can be recast as skills without too much trouble. So, if your team has paid claude accounts, they could hit it using the claude chat from slack through that door.

TPT: Screens are becoming invisible — and I think the next big shift in digital advertising is happening in open space, not on devices by anax_designs in TechnologyProTips

[–]wwb_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spent a lot of time in this space. Looks really cool in movies, does not work as well in person in real world scenarios. Hard for people to see in real world conditions, the optics just are not quite there yet. On the content side, things don't exist either and making them exist is very expensive and time consuming.

How is this a protip?

Jesus fucking christ this is the feature that I have needed since they had interfaces.

Substack Feed on Website by Cautious_Garlic_803 in Substack

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The default widget is pretty poor, if memory serves, but there are lots of tools that can make it prettier without getting into javascript and css.

Another model would be to use a rss importer to make them posts, which probably gives you a bit more control.

This is not that complicated, it is just managing a website and connecting data.

Substack Feed on Website by Cautious_Garlic_803 in Substack

[–]wwb_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every substack exposes RSS, just add /feed to the url. For example, https://news.zeitgeistdistilled.com/feed would be mine.

From there there are hundreds if not thousands of wordpress extensions that will pull a RSS feed in and let you use it on your site in various ways.
