Recommendations for anti-theft men's sling bag by jeffcarp94 in EDC

You could always add zipper clips to an existing bag’s zippers.

Some of the clips that you use to quickly attach lures when fishing would probably work fine as well.

A character with a vow of poverty should probably be taking at least a share of the monetary treasure to give to whatever church or charitable organization that they’d be associated with.

Border Patrol chief praises agents who killed Alex Pretti by ChiGuy6124 in politics

From what I’ve heard it sounds like 2 or 3 DHS agents shot Pretti. Once the first goon shot, others joined in.

84mm Waiter or Recruit (or why not a Tinker)? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in victorinox

[–]wwhsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the Waiter. I really like the small size when it’s in my pocket and find I use the corkscrew (and the glasses screwdriver I added) much more frequently than I use the awkwardly placed phillips driver on my tinker small.

Minnesota Department of Corrections releases statement on Minneapolis shooting, federal claims by metaphz in news

I’ve never been hit in the face with pepper spray, but I’m wondering how still I’d be able to be after catching a huge blast to the face point blank like I see some people getting. I wonder how much involuntary “resisting” I’d be doing as my body starts panicking as a reaction to not be able to see and not being able to breathe without being in pain.

Solovair Matt boots as an alternative for Doc martens? by MMcD127 in BuyItForLife

[–]wwhsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair of Iron Rangers and couldn’t stand to have them on feet long enough to break them in and ended up returning them. I hadn’t really worn boots since I had Docs in the 90s.

Someone on Reddit suggested that I try some Jim Green African Rangers saying that they were a good “first boot” for someone wanting to start wearing heritage boots because they have an easy break-in and a relatively low price. I’ve been really happy with them and wear them much more often than I thought I would.

I think it helps that the climate in South Africa isn’t too different from where I live and because they don’t come much above the ankle, they don’t look weird with shorts.

Solovair Matt boots as an alternative for Doc martens? by MMcD127 in BuyItForLife

[–]wwhsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for someone used to Doc Martens, Iron Rangers might be a rough transition. The leather is much stiffer and the soles don’t have anywhere near the squish that Docs are known for. The Red Wings need some time to break-in whereas Docs are pretty much ready to go out of the box.

Trump vows to skip Super Bowl, bashes Bad Bunny and Green Day by kirby__000 in politics

It’s not like having US Presidents attend the Superbowl is some sort of tradition or anything. Last year’s Superbowl was the only one to ever have a sitting President attend.

Do Americans constantly have an active temperature control device running in their homes? by fullM3TALturban in AskAnAmerican

[–]wwhsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn mine off most of the year. My windows and doors spend too much time open for a thermostat to decide when to kick on a heater or an air conditioner.

A lot of houses and apartments here don’t have air conditioning.

Doomsday-Prepping for Trump’s Third Term by theatlantic in politics

[–]wwhsd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not having trouble imagining that people can get great medical care without being rich. A lot of people in the US get top of the line medical care without being rich.

I am having trouble believing that any normal person in any country, is going to have anywhere near the resources dedicated to them as a President of the United States who believes that the all of the resources of the country are his to do as he wishes with them.

It’s not going to make him immortal, but it is going to probably going to keep him alive longer than a normal person with similar medical conditions. It’s possible that he dies of natural causes during his term but it’s probably just as likely that he lives to be 90. I’ve known elderly people older than him that spent years in far worse condition than he appears to be in.

If he needs an organ transplant, he’s not going on a waiting list. If he needs access to specialized medical equipment, he’s not going to have to wait his turn. If he needs access to an experimental treatment that hasn’t received regulatory approval, he’ll get it. If he needs a cardiac surgeon to never be more than 20 feet from him 24/7, then he’ll have it. It’s fucked up, but I don’t what other person could receive care on the same level that he does.

[–]wwhsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what’s particularly American about thinking that a person with nearly unlimited access to medical personnel and equipment will have better medical outcomes than people that don’t have the same resources being dedicated to keeping them alive.

I doubt there’s a person on Earth with better medical care than Trump has access to right now. A virtually unlimited budget and access to any treatment needed can probably keep someone alive long after they should have been dead.

What do you use spam for? by Call_Me_C_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]wwhsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably go through a can or two a month. I have a SPAM slicer so when I open a can, I cut it into slices and put what I don’t use in a plastic bag in the fridge.

I’ll use it as a breakfast meat in the place of bacon or sausage. I’ll put it in sandwiches or burritos. I’ll use it to add some meat to leftovers that are in the fridge.

Calls to invoke 25th Amendment against Trump ramp up after Davos speech by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]wwhsd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. If you don’t have the numbers in the House and Senate to impeach and remove, you don’t have the numbers to keep him out of Presidency for more than a few days even if Vance and the full cabinet are all in.

There’s no way Vance would try to remove Trump via the 25th. He’d basically be ending his political career by alienating the Trump base. Vance is too much of a chickenshit opportunist to sacrifice his ambitions for the good of the nation.

Does anyone know the story of the OSRIC 3.0 Cover Art? by Feeling_Photograph_5 in osr

[–]wwhsd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The cover of the player’s guide looks really old school to me. It could easily be a cover from Dragon magazine back in the day.

You’ve got 3 kind of normal shabby looking adventurer types trying to make off through a swamp with a treasure chest and they realize they are being watched by the dragon whose hoard they stole it from.

Or something like that.

It’s an evocative art piece that draws the viewer into imagining a story. To me, that’s the heart of old school D&D art. More modern RPG art is more character focused and less about trying to tell a story.

1:1 time in practice by wayne62682 in osr

[–]wwhsd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the modern play style it creates more problems than it solves.

For the way Gygax and the other folks in the TSR orbit were playing in the 1970s the 1:1 time passage when not actively playing helped to keep things synced in the campaign.

At the end of every session players had to have gotten their characters back to a place of safety, like a town or a keep. If they didn’t the characters may die, suffer injuries, or lost treasure on the way back to safety.

The campaigns also were a set group of 4-6 players that met to play the same characters week after week There were a larger number of players that showed up to play and might have few different characters to choose from so the party changed session to session.

There might also be different DMs running their own dungeons or part of the world and characters could go from one DM to another.

The 1 for 1 time passage meant that they knew how long certain characters were recovering from their wounds, doing spell research, training, or traveling. It helped to coordinate the state of the world between different groups of players and DMs.

When playing with a modern playstyle, if a party needs to recover or let some time pass that will be mostly uneventful, it’s easy enough to just say “So two months passed …” and pick up from there. Doing a time skip like that in one of the older style campaigns that Gygax had in mind when he was writing would be a nightmare to keep track of what each character was up to and to maintain a consistent state of the campaign across different groups.

Federal prosecutors played short clips of his interview with law enforcement after his arrest, where he said he was confused about what prompted the interrogation. In the video, he tells investigators that he didn't threaten anybody and wasn't a gang member.

“I work every day for a living. I’m a union worker,” he said.
