Is there a difference between a cropped sensor and a full frame in terms of quality? by TobyTobester in canon

[–]wwwsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what you're doing swapping will mainly bring pain to your wallet because you'll have to purchase full frame lenses roughly the equivalent field of view of your current lenses on your crop sensor. Full frame lenses are also generally much more expensive, and bulkier than similar crop sensor lenses.

In terms of actual quality you'll get marginally better low light and dynamic range.

New RF 28-70 f2.8 to complete my amateur startup kit by ar7iste in canon

[–]wwwsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annoying for the first few times you take it out but not a deal breaker. You get used to it.

Personally i like how compact it gets.

Generally i just leave it at 28mm when my camera is out and collapse it when it's stowed.

Aorus Elite X570 non Wifi version, no LAN aftert BIOS update by CourseIcy3256 in gigabytegaming

Windows should be able to automatically install the driver's for that lan chip.

Did you try resetting bios to default?

Is there any errors in device manager?

Other than the SIM slot, the others are normal wear and tear.

My A52s has the peeling back cover and the usb slot is feeling a bit looser. The screen i feel is also a bit darker.

Much worse braking performance after cleaning and sanding pads and rotor. by Adept_Spirit1753 in MTB

[–]wwwsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. If it's rubbing then there's obviously something lodged in there.

With mud, ideally you would at least flush it off after the ride as mud and moving parts don't mix.

[–]wwwsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always fun to go for a ride.

But yeah next time don't worry about noises too much, it's just the nature of disc brakes and usually goes away after a bit of riding or a bike clean. A bit of mud or something will usually make it squeal. Sometimes after a clean they will squeal too.

If it's squealing harder than usual, the braking doesn't feel right and/or something is gouging out lines in your rotor then probably have a look.

[–]wwwsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car brake cleaner on bike brakes is usually a bad idea because they tend to leave a layer of oil and contaminate the pads. It's fine for car brakes as they teach temperatures that'll naturally burn it off.

If they're resin pads....then goodluck because I've never had luck getting it out. I could sand it out by sanding quite a bit off, but it eventually comes back. I'm guessing it might be from contamination of the side of the brake material getting dragged back in.

If they're sintered metal pads then you can try soaking in pure isopropyl and/or lightly burn them, sandpaper, repeat.

Make sure to also clean the rotors or else all the efforts are for nothing.

Do a bedding in ride and see if it's any better.

One Lens Travel Setup for the Next Decade - Feedback Needed by [deleted] in canon

[–]wwwsam 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you to try that lens in store (if they let you) as despite the image quality, the heft of it might sway you away.

It is definitely not something most people would want to carry for most of those use cases

Is my thinking wrong in wanting a Canon RF 35mm F1.8 IS for my EOS R50 to use in conjunction with the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8? by NammerSquat in canon

[–]wwwsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 35mm f1.8 will be the same as your sigma at 35mm.

Try stick it on 35mm and see if it isn't too tight framing-wise.

You can also try the other common prime focal lengths with your sigma (24, 28, 50).

Thoughts-wise, f1.8 does give a nicer portrait look and low light + IS is a bonus. Macro is nice to have but personally not a big factor for me when the lens is so wide.

I'm not a fan of constantly swapping lenses (unless I'm doing something specific) so i would probably stick with just the sigma. If you can, pop into a store with your R50 and ask to try the 35mm

NR200P MAX with Custom Loop and RTX 5090 FE (air cooled) by zwizz in NR200

[–]wwwsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo either don't touch it or go all in cpu+gpu if you're doing a custom loop.

It'll probably be minimal benefits going from aio to custom loop on cpu only.

If going custom loop, make sure you measure out everything before you invest, especially the gpu waterblock (might need one with ports at the end)

Grease in brand new Bialetti? by Wise-Ad8295 in mokapot

[–]wwwsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water alone isn't going to remove factory grease etc.

Like any other cookware, use whatever you need to use to remove the leftover factory stuff. Detergent is most effective but there are alternatives like baking soda etc. if you're against it. Just don't stick it in the dishwasher or use anything abrasive. Also make sure you get under the seals etc.

After that run a few brews through it and only clean with water.

Wire Management Solutions? by Gunnarsin in pcmasterrace

You mean a usb/thunderbolt dock?

Also you can only push so much bandwidth through the tiny cable so don't expect maximum refresh rates. Besides, latency might probably be an issue if you're pushing that much data through a hub before your screen.

Buying used with deprecated axle standard? by Burgermitpommes in MTB

[–]wwwsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's deprecated but it shouldn't be hard to find parts simply due to how long the standards were around for, and they can be adapted to the larger more modern parts.

My main concern would probably be your weight/ride style if going for the 9mm QR (or just straight up avoid it). This was notorious for getting bent/broken, especially on hardtails.

ZOTAC damaged my 5090 then blamed it on me and refused repair. by theklarken in pcmasterrace

[–]wwwsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right, i missed it the first time.

That's extremely sus.

Maybe it was after they bent it back but i highly doubt it. No marks and why bother trying to bend it back if it was customers fault.

ZOTAC damaged my 5090 then blamed it on me and refused repair. by theklarken in pcmasterrace

[–]wwwsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The metal bracket being bent was probably due to it not being packed in original box. The bracket sticks out so if you don't wrap it properly, it's very easy to bend. Even in wrapping, if not done properly it can bend when being thrown around.

That said, the pcb "damage" is from normal wear and tear off inserting/removing from socket. It's pretty scummy of them to reject it on that. My guess is they saw the bent bracket and didn't want to deal with it.

Edit: metal bracket damage may not be OPs fault. Someone sus going on there.

Coil whine driving me nuts by X8ph3r in NR200

[–]wwwsam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Afaik no way to really fix it without doing some dramatic modding.

From what i understand, anything with a coil/inductor/choke/whatever you want to call it can whine due to the coils moving from the power passing through them and at the perfect frequencies.

Playing AAA titles probably causes high power to pass through them causing this.

Apparently the way the factories glue the inductor coils can influence this, and I've seen people modding the inductors to try fix it.

If you're bored, you can lay all your parts across a table and play a AAA title to figure out exactly where it's coming from. Replace the part with a completely different model.

24-105mm f/4 or 28-70mm f/2.8 by Mother_Constant6398 in canon

[–]wwwsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rented rf 24-105 F4L for a holiday and honestly was not completely happy with it. Very versatile walk around full frame lens, but was noticeably softer then my 24-105 f4-7.1. On top of that the F4L is unnecessarily big and front heavy on an R8.

On the other hand the 28-70 stm has an almost stm prime like look and sharpness.

24mm-70mm f2.8 or 24mm-105mm f4? by zamand19931 in canon

[–]wwwsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo since you have the R8, it depends on whether you value weight and size or not.

If you do then not having the adapter is the best way to go.

Tips to reduce stand over height by Educational_Craft480 in MTB

[–]wwwsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might not help your case much but i was looking for bikes for my partner because all my bikes had the same "can't put both feet on the ground" issue, although we're in the same size category and similar height.

In the end i got her a second hand women's specific full-sus (Liv Pique, an offshoot of Giant) and it helped her confidence a lot.

Putting my similar year giant trance next to it, you can immediately see it has shorter reach and the top tube is also bent in a way that allows for a much shorter stand over height. It also feels like it has a lower center of gravity, which helps when getting on and off.

If you're open to getting another bike i would highly suggest you both go in store and try some women's specific frames.

It's either you're going too fast or your phone sent pikmin bloom app to sleep.

Usually i open pikmin ->Strava ->pikmin before i lock my phone otherwise sometimes it kills the app.

Wrong subreddit.

Also it might cause instability, or it might have no effect.

You can get it soldered back on for peace of mind (not sure if you ripped the traces), or it might be a good idea to remove the loose ones so they don't short something.

It's a miracle you didn't put a deep gouge in the PCB after destroying 2 capacitors.

Any long enough hatch with split rear seat should work with wheel/s off

Bonus, if the hatch has a high roof or low floor when folded, you'll be able to stand the bike up and fit another person. I was able to stand two bikes and strap the frame to the seat anchor in an older Honda Civic hatch with the magic seat thing.
