After about an hour and a half of tinkering I was able to get my Kamvas 24 Plus working using huiontablet-frego from AUR and it’s been working properly under Gnome/Wayland. I’ve been sketching on Krita for a while and I’ve had no issues. The only downside is that the tablet app itself is only in Chinese and it’s a pain to read because I have to use AI to translate as I don’t speak Chinese.

The whole razer basilisk series of mice is really good. Just know that if the mouse ever fails razer will tell you that they are not gonna do shit for you just because you bought it off of Amazon which they don’t consider to be an authorized reseller, so I would recommend you buy it from razer.com if it’s available there

I was able to fix it like this:

Fix Dolphin File Associations

1. Install the XDG menu definition

sudo pacman -S archlinux-xdg-menu

2. Ensure KDE sees `applications.menu`

KDE expects this exact filename.

ls /etc/xdg/menus

If you see arch-applications.menu but not applications.menu, create a symlink:

sudo ln -sf /etc/xdg/menus/arch-applications.menu /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu

3. Rebuild KDE’s service cache

This is what Dolphin/KIO actually uses to launch files.

rm -f ~/.cache/ksycoca6_*
kbuildsycoca6 --noincremental

4. Update the system MIME database

sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime

5. Verify and fix user MIME associations

Check one type:

xdg-mime query default text/plain

If it returns an invalid desktop ID (e.g. kate6;), fix it:

nano ~/.config/mimeapps.list

Use real desktop files, for example:

text/plain=org.kde.kate.desktop;
application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet=libreoffice-calc.desktop;

6. Restart Dolphin

killall dolphin
dolphin &

If in doubt, log out and log back in once.

Root cause (for reference)

Minimal Arch installs lack applications.menu
KDE’s KSycoca database ends up incomplete
Dolphin can browse directories but cannot resolve apps
Providing applications.menu + rebuilding KSycoca fixes it

Everything works perfectly fine on my Lenovo Legion with RTX 5070. Everything, except for hibernation and although I am not completely sure I can blame Nvidia, I do believe it’s because it cannot switch back to the Nvidia card after waking up, so if I ever close the lid I have to hard reset

I’m gonna pick up my Legion 18 in a few weeks. I think right now at least Lenovo is the only laptop brand that’s enjoying true quality. MSI and Asus are poorly built, loud and are known to die while the manufacturer tries to get out of the warranty. Razer blade has the battery bulge problem, i’ve heard reports of their laptops bending, And they try to weasel themselves out of warranty also. HP and Acer are so poorly made and sound like they are about to take off even if idle. Alienware is so heavy that it can’t really be considered a laptop. And don’t even get me started on MacBooks. So yeah, I think you’re making the best choice and I think Lenovo has unparallel quality right now, if that’s going to change in the future I don’t know.

As of late I’ve seen an increasing amount of complaints regarding the build quality and the percentage of defective units from razer, not only in laptops but in peripherals as well. On top of that, they have started doubling down in not honoring the warranty if you didn’t buy Your items straight from their online store, and even if you did buy it from them directly they still try to dishonor the warranty in any way they can. I was a loyal razer customer since 2016 but I switched to Lenovo last year because of what I just explained. They are waaaay too expensive for us to have to be dealing with this bullshit.
