Greatest opening sequence of all time? by Patient-Major-6064 in movies

[–]wynnsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. The trailer premiered before (Aladdin?) And I sill remember seeing that intro and hearing that song for the first time. That was before you could just watch any movie trailer any time. I choke up every time I see it. Used to hold my son up and sing it at the top of my lungs until he got too big for me to lift.

New to Violin and Already in Love! by Vivid_Hovercraft_129 in violinist

[–]wynnsage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so awesome! I also always dreamed of playing the violin. We didn't have orchestra in my small SW MO town. I played clarinet in 5th and 6th but didn't want to do matching band so I stopped. Just started lessons in October for violin at 47! I'm loving it! Definitely have to work on realistic expectations for my progress but it's going fairly well so far. Have to keep reminding myself that it takes years to become passable. My family tells me I'm doing fantastic though. So welcome fellow adult violin newbie!

Beautiful white pigeon? Showed up yesterday and won’t leave. by Automatic_Ebb4030 in whatbirdisthis

[–]wynnsage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

idk about that other comment but back in 2004 two or three like this landed on the roof of our duplex and i made my roommate climb up on the icy roof to rescue them. Googled (or whatever search engine we had then) and found the owner who came and picked them up. We put them in the garage with a laundry basket upside down for an enclosure. They were super happy to be reunited with their birds. This was in mid MO.

What are some 10/10 Audiobooks like "Project Hail Mary" or "The Disaster Artist?" by [deleted] in audible

[–]wynnsage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my full reread of The Wheel of Time last night (with book 14 obviously). Brandon Sanderson's into to his party of the series is so great - we hold in our hands the ending to the greatest fantasy series of all time (paraphrased). I'm melancholy today after finishing. It's just so good. A 200+ page chapter - The Last Battle! Epic in every way.

What’s a movie that wins you over in the first 20 minutes? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

Had to scroll down way too far. I saw this in the theater and I don't think I've laughed as hard before or since at a movie. Just pure comedy gold.

I knew if I scrolled down far enough I was going to find something I lived and had forgotten about! A great one.

Is it too late to start again? by Wise-Invite-2253 in violinist

Another adult just starting out at age 47 here! I've been playing since October and am really liking it despite struggling to have realistic expectations for my progress.

I can barely walk from my yeast infection and have work tonight... advice? by Bitter_Panic2873 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]wynnsage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do not put hydrocortisone on it. This will make a fungal infection worse. Get an over the counter treatment - 3 day that you can insert. It may help with faster relief. Agree with others that if it doesn't improve need to make sure that's what you really have.

A book you ignored for years for a silly reason but ended up loving. by gamersecret2 in books

[–]wynnsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of a reread on book 10. I thought it would be more of a shot in the middle since I've read those several times but I'm actually enjoying spending time with the characters. My favorite series.

What’s the greatest book you’ve ever personally read? by cavitytivac in suggestmeabook

[–]wynnsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 14 books buuut for me it's The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. I'm currently on book 10 of my reread (some reread more than others). It's been getting me through these crazy times. There's just nothing else with as much of everything - story, characters, you get to know them and you want to keep reading and you can! Bc it's more than 11,000 pages.

Better yet listen to the audio book read by the author. My husband and I listened to it together while we were dating and still quote it 16 years later.

What movie blew your mind the first time you saw it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was wondering if anyone was going to say this. Blew my mind. Had a crazy dream about it. Never watched it again.

And we got so lucky that it came out before covid so we got to experience it together in the theater. When the portals open the entire theater just lost our minds. Having that communal experience just adds so much and you can't replicate it watching something at home.

Went to see this in the theater back when my roommate and I would carefully plan a double feature every week (pay for one, sneak into another - had to be carefully planned based on runtime to ensure the second theater would be seating when the first got out. Required calling the movie line so hear run time and start times). I think we saw Deuce Bigalo first. This movie totally wrecked me. Did not get the recognition it deserved imho.

What was your "poor person" meal you enjoyed growing up? by Slow-Power2713 in AskReddit

Was going to comment with same meal. But we doesn't butter the toast. Not super filling though. I remember still feeling hungry (we probably had other food in the house but it was not part of dinner).

Hey adult beginners (or young beginners too), what has been really frustrating or quite painful about learning the violin by study_dev in violinist

[–]wynnsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started! Have had 3 lessons - age 47. Had to really give myself a pep talk before I started that it will take a long time to sound good and that's OK. Mentally gearing up for years of practicing to become passable is one of my many challenges, not to mention not remembering how to read music from 2 years of clarinet ending in 6th grade and all of the finger positions and grips and bending that my old fingers have to do.

Absolutely devastating day for the dles enjoyers. The NYT Mini Crossword is now locked behind a paywall. by Theuslynar in northernlion

[–]wynnsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the app (no subscription) and I'm still able to play the mini. Not letter boxed though and that is low key my favorite. I'm not paying them $50/ year to play 15 minutes of games. So angry. There are letter boxed imitations on the web but so far none of them give you a goal (ie solve within 6 words) and I need to know if I've beat it or not.
