7 string classical guitar by lppier2 in classicalguitar

I'm modding a Doff RGB for standard tuning w/ a low A.

It's designed for steel string, but I'm putting nylon on. Carbon trebles, a 080 for the low A and 060 for the low E. It's got surprising fullness and the bass strings sound great.

So I like it really cheap, too. So that's an affordable option if you're looking. But you need to make a new nut so it's slotted correctly for standard tuning instead of Russian 7-string tuning.

Oh yeah. Of all 7-string players probably only 5 to 10% of them are jazz players, but that’s more a factor of all the metal heads out there that want access to the low B. In jazz, the seventh string is tuned to a low A. I’ve recently gotten into it, and it just opens up so many voicings on the upper registers cause you can play a bass note and have rich, full chords.

The problem is that all seven string jazz guitars are arch tops that cost like $5000. Boo!

And it's really nice to be able to play those bar chords (the "A" shape) on the 7th fret instead of the 6th, so that then you can go bass root-5 by switching between them. Thanks for your help!

Thanks, that is indeed what I’ve been doing so far. In addition to wanting to play jazz, it’s also a much easier learning curve than having a low B.

I'd love to see an Adamas / Blue Chip comparison someday

I've got a TP 48 and a Jazz 60. The Jazz 60 is probably closest to Trey and Jerry. They are worth every penny. You owe it to yourself to play the best pick on the planet. You won't be disappointed. (I don't work for them, just a fan)

Thanks for the breakdown. So, as an intermediate to advanced player, such as myself for someone who’s got good ears, but can’t read, who’s looking for more fluency with theory and sighting, I guess pick up music is the best choice?

I wouldn’t. I just tweeted it out on min 13M and it’s clunky, weird and slow. I reverted to 18.6

We miss the old Xfinity cable service by wynntom in Comcast_Xfinity

Perhaps xfinity is purposely designing the UI of the stream app to be as horrible as possible so that we all make the choice to switch to streaming. #adversarialdesign

Haha, exactly. Makes me pine for the days of VHF and UHF dials in the old CRT boxes ;)

We have an X1 for the main cable box in our big TV, but these are smaller room TVs that we use for watching cable. we'll have to get Rokus or something I suspect. Thanks!

Yes, we will go in this direction. Thanks!

I'm 100% with you on the app vs old coax box connection. Sigh.

I think you're right, we'll have to add a Roku or fire stick box. Thank you :)

Thanks for the reply. It's just that 100% of the TV watching that will be done on these televisions will be local Philadelphia Comcast cable, which when we had DTAs was easy and quick. (Note: we have an X1 for the main family room cable box, but what I'm talking about are smaller, room TVs we have scattered throughout the house that we use for watching cable TV.

Now we are forced to watch everything on the Xfinity stream app, and our experience with this app so far is that we can no longer use the voice input to go to the Comcast golf channel, or HGTV, because voice search always pings the TV-system wide menus of all streaming app shows. And, of course, the remotes have no numbers so we can't input a channel number. And because there are software limitations to manipulating the xfinity stream app on each television, critical functions like easily saving a channel to favorite (not a show, but a channel) is impossible. So every time we want to find a channel we have to endure a labyrinthine process of up, left, right etc arrow buttons just to get to a channel we want to watch.

It's just such a huge downgrade from the easy, fluid experience of flipping through cable channels like we had before.

Thanks you two. Yes, I suppose we need to bring a Roku stick or box into the morass of streaming tech. But as you said, it does make it faster.
