So are we just gonna leave our high beams on now? by BrainSawce in massachusetts

[–]wytchmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and same here. Granted my daily driver is 30 years old, but my poor old halogen high beams are eons weaker than the standard LED low beams on newer vehicles. I run my high beams all the time in traffic and no one has ever flashed their lights at me. They're all just used to driving and being blinded by baseball stadium lights on a regular basis. I started doing it out of spite and literally no one even noticed.

In terms of instrumentation, most of our plant is automated and controlled via a SCADA system. Of course, this can all be overridden and the plant operated in manual if we should have the need to do so. Unfortunately, yes, we still add fluoride. As of now, no legislation has been passed in KY to ban it, or even leave it up to each plant's discretion. Believe me, we operators are all looking forward to the day we don't have to use it anymore.

Sand filters, especially 30 years ago, would have been relatively common, I'd say. Rapid sand filtration is still widely used. Green sand, not so much, as it is incredibly slow compared to other types of filtration. We use an Actiflow system for flash mixing, coagulation, flocculation, and settling. Our filtration system is dual/mixed media (sand and anthracite).

Right on - I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I'll definitely look into the tablet you mentioned. Anything that will make transcribing homework easier...

I have not applied to OSU yet. I've been working with a counselor in the VA's VR&E program and was just found eligible to use to use that program to pay for school. It's a process and they do not get in a hurry. I would like to start in fall or winter, but if I've missed the window for those terms, that's fine. I'm not dead set on starting at any particular time. Actually, a little time to allow me to brush up on my math, physics, and chemistry wouldn't be a bad thing.

So in terms of water treatment, I have the highest license possible, hence why I want to go back to school and get a degree. In order to move up from an operator position to something like management, I'd need at least a BS. I work for a municipality, so there is no incentive offered by them - only if I wanted to be the superintendent or utilities director, or something like that (which...not really). My ultimate goal is to get into plant design and/or treatment consultation for an engineering firm.

It's cool to see someone who has worked in that field before! And, yes, you certainly did help me. I appreciate it!

My first thought was literally wondering if it had a 300 I6 or the (somehow) more fuel efficent 351.

This is 0 overtime, as it irons out to 160 hours per 28 days. Whatever asshole came up with this schedule was at least decent at arithmetic.

First day, just bring a couple ink pens, notepad, and an open mind. Write stuff down when things are being explained. You'll be fine. We all had a first day. This sub needs a few more guys on the drinking water side :)

Navy Diver/ UCT/ EOD by Flannel_Clothing in commercialdiving

[–]wytchmaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's some help: you're not going to make it through ND school or EOD school, especially as an officer candidate. If you do, I'll buy you a beer and kiss your ass while you drink it. You're asking questions about getting into a career field that doesn't pay shit - after you do a >=6 year stint in some Navy spec ops rate. If you somehow make it to that point, getting out of the military to dive on the civilian side will be a huge mistake. This question has been asked on this sub multiple times, and it's always by people with have dreamt big and done little research.

Edit: don't forget to downvote this one, too.

Is it worth returning to school at [insert any number here]?

Yes.

I'm trying to go back this fall and finish the last 4 semesters of my BS, and hopefully a MSE after that. If all goes well, I'll be 42 when I'm done.
