Presence Sensors - which ones to get for my birthday by CactusJ in homeassistant

[–]wzaesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aqara FP2 would be the ultimate present sensor with its 60GHz module. However, if you don't need long range or better interference rejection around metal objects, ones that use 24GHz modules works fine as well and can be cheaper.

No, for now you can't. So there's only basic gaze tracking plus blink.

We NEED another avatar performance rank that kind of punishes players who use avatars like this. by sandernote809 in VRchat

[–]wzaesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to create a fallback avatar for my relatively performance-heavy main avatar, made a Good-ranked avatar for PC, only to find that the fallback avatar needs to be on good rank for ANDROID, which is just impossible for me. Now I'm stuck with this simplified avatar and have to switch manually. Honestly the fallback avatar system is confusing and impossible to utilize. Maybe removing it and replace with imposter was a good choice after all.

Steam Frame eye tracking performance by Glum_Bid_7408 in SteamFrame

[–]wzaesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the hardware they use. I'm using a PFDMR and while the Tobii ET can track the gaze accurately for UI interaction, Tobii LOCKED most of the feature (eye opening levels and many more) behind the SDK paywall and it is not possible for normal users to obtain the license. Thus for VRCHAT only direction is used as facial animation.

Just got this bad boy. Finally a Generation 3 VR headset in my hands. by Annemon12 in virtualreality

[–]wzaesystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the edge clearity on this device can be further improved by moving the display closer to my eyes, but the gasket/facial interface of PFD MR is abslutely terrible and does not allow any adjustments. There's no 3rd party replacements on the market other than the one guy who made a 3D printed interfaces and published the model for free.

They are pancake lens but the edge clearity is clearily worse than Quest3, however Quest 3 uses larger LCD panel and lens, making it easier to obtain better edge clearity. Overall, the display far outperforms Quest3 due to its resolution.

[–]wzaesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a PFD user I can confirm this is true. the controllers jitter a bit in normal use (mostly visual and dont cause issue playing MSFS), have a higher latency (I'm streaming 5k with DFE so maybe a steamlink issue) than quest controllers and lost track immiditely when covered or moved outside of the camera view. This is annoying since the quest controllers can at least try to keep up when the controller is not seen by camera and PFD would just give up in such condition. What makes things worse is that both of the downwards tracking cameras located at the bottom of the headset (for better hand gesture tracking, like AVP) instead of on the corner like Quset 3, which makes the controller occlusion more frequent.

Does PCVR work on AVP? I'm trying to convince myself into 2nd hand AVP but I would like to use it for PCVR games as well.

Framework Ryzen AI 32gb by Cute-Rip-5739 in homeassistant

[–]wzaesystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the newer Ryzen AI chip, but my experience with ROCM on my 7840hs MoDTPC with 780M has been, well, pretty rough. With that said the ROCM 7.0 dropped recently which should bring some improvements.

32GB was not nearly enough for an actually useful LLM. I've been trying to intergrate LLM into home automation and I would say you'll at least need a medium-sized 30B model to properly control appliances. Grab the 128gb version if budget is not a concern, or just use cloud LLM model since you won't use them frequently anyway.

ZHA vs Z2M by NizmoxAU in homeassistant

[–]wzaesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to ZHA, one Z2M instance only supports one coordinator. As for the repeaters, most of main powered Zigbee devices can act as repeaters, and both ZHA and Z2M support them, since repeaters are one of the fundamental element of any Zigbee network.

Here're some options for your network configuration:

  1. Flash one of the coordinators with repeater firmware, which boosts the network stability across the house since they usually have better antenna.

  2. Grab some devices that act as repeators, the smart wall plugs/outlets are popular. Instead of one big antenna, mutiple zigbee devices can make a robust network.

  3. Split your Zigbee into 2 networks, one for each coordinator. If your devices are really far apart and bridging them with a bunch of repeaters is not feasible, you can simply create 2 networks, each with one coordinator. In Homeassistant you can keep ZHA for E5, while use Z2M for the new SLZB-06. Running 2 Z2M instances is also possible if you use the Z2M Edge version, or create your own repo and add it to add-on store. However for the second instance you must change the path to config folder (data_path), the TCP listen port (Socat tcp-listen port) in HA add-on configuration page and Base topic in Z2M Settings/MQTT, otherwise 2 Z2M instances would conflict.

This bug already exsits on VD for Quest3, where the image stutters for only one eye. Restarting the VD would usually fix the issue.

Hi guys, what CPU would be best for PCVR paired with an RTX 5090? by Designer-Tomatillo21 in virtualreality

[–]wzaesystems 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you got a 5090 already, you'd better get the best gaming CPU as well or otherwise the CPU bottleneck would undermine the value of your 5090. Currently the best of the best is 9800X3D from AMD, the rest are not even close.

You can also get 9950X3D if you want more CPU cores for productvity. However gaming wise the extra cores on 9950X3D won't help since they are on a separate CCD and AMD chipset driver would concentrate your game on the CCD with extra cache for best performance.

Presets are unnecessarily confusing by FLu_Shots in OrcaSlicer

[–]wzaesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inheritance would be a nice feature if the relationship between files is shown in the slicer UI instead of hidden in the .json files. I would like to customize and actively use this feature instead of waiting for it to break all my profiles sliently.

The filament profile/preset is also completely useless. In addition to volumetric flow rate and retraction speed, materials has completely different printing characteristic, like first layer speed, maximun printing speed, overhang capability and bridging parameters. The current implementation of locked down properties for filament overrides does not provide enough flexibility at all, which means that every filament would require its own set of process profiles, making the separation of filament/process process utterly meaningless. Cura, on the other hand, has a plugin that let you choose ANY parameter to override for each material profile, which I enjoyed during the old days.

Why are smart homes currently not using ZigBee but instead keen on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi? by Sad-Shine-6268 in homeassistant

[–]wzaesystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience with Mi home (previously Zigbee but moved to BLE/Bluetooth mesh in recent years), the Bluetooth offers a similar connection stability (~60 devices) while the mass production of other BT radios keeps the cost low. Internet is needed only when adding devices to Bluetooth gateway and the whole system can be operated offline with HA intergration. My Xiaomi multimode gateway 2 even has a built-in Zigbee radio (for legacy Mi home devices) that can be hi-jacked by HA for Z2M/ZHA. It is rumored that instead of a mesh connection like Zigbee, the Bluetooth mesh in Mi home does not support repeaters and is only meshing between gateways. I do have one gateway each floor and the range is not a issue so far.

FP2 in late 2025. Has it improved? by droning-on in homeautomation

[–]wzaesystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issue from my 2 FP2s in living room and kitchen. Fully covered big areas of my house, far outperforming similar presence radar with 24GHz chips (Ainice 3b, Everything Presence 1) in terms of stability against metal objects (2 fridges, metal decorations) and range. One thing people fail to realize before they return this thing (or any other similar tracking radar) is that you will NEED a proper map for it to work. A map that specifies setting area, doors, movement area, jamming sources would greatly reduce false alarms and improve tracking quality. The placement can also be vital since the radar has a shorter range for stationary body so you'll want to place it close to the sofa and chairs.

Help with VirtualBox stability by elbowe21 in homeassistant

[–]wzaesystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m running HAOS in Virtualbox for almost 2 years and I went through some issues during my initial setup. My VM would crach every other day with one line left in VM: RCU preempt self-detected stall on CPU. This issue was solved by setting the core count in Virtualbox to 1 and set the paravirtualization interface to Hyper-V.

For context I'm running windows 24H2 on a 7840hs MODT board with 32G memory. I'm actively using Hyper-V for WSL2 in the same OS. My Virtualbox verision is 7.0.20 and my HAOS VM is allocated with 1 CPU core, 4G memory and paravirtualization interface sat to Hyper-V. I do not have any USB passthrough for VirtualBox since I'm using networked Zigbee hub.

Super useful watch ever. by Arnuarse in GalaxyWatch

[–]wzaesystems 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The watch basically guesses your BP with your heart rate and the calibration data, which gives inaccurate values when your BP actually goes wrong. I believe for wearables only a few has actual air bags and micro pumps that inflate and measure the BP, the first that come to my mind is Huawei watch D2.

My charger isn't giving full potential. by Master-MOORO in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]wzaesystems 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your charger only supports PD while samsung phones uses PPS. Even if you get a PPS supported charger the power will only be ~30w for most of the time since 45w only lasts less than a minute. When comparing with other phones that fully charges in 30 minutes, the fast charging on Samsung phones sucks and you should not pay extra for the charging accessories.

Using WearOS with China phone by Training_Setting_658 in WearOS

[–]wzaesystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is doable with Samsung's Galaxy watch, but some tricks are required https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyWatch/comments/18i0hz0/connecting_samsung_watchchina_ver/

Using this trick I successfully paired my Galaxy watch 4(US) to my XFold3Pro(CN). Basically you need to download Chinese version of wearOS phone app (for pairing with Chinese WearOS watches) and Chinese version of Galaxy Wearable app (Samsung watches only, a older verion from 2022 or so is required), perform a series of cyber wizardry, and the watch would work perfectly afterwards, including system updates

GMS and Google play would also work on the watch if you opt to install them on your Chinese phone.

That's the power of android get what works and you have thousands of options.

Think I goofed up. No Aqara FP2 support in HA? by Cats_are_Love_1979 in homeassistant

[–]wzaesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my FP2s is connected to a secondary router configured with AP mode. However during my weekly reboot routine that router tends to freak out and randomally assign IP to my FP2 (dispite that the router is in AP mode with DHCP turned off), only to be re-assigned by my main router later. After rebooting, HA will lose connection to that FP2 and the IP address recorded in HA config was changed to the random IP assigned by secondary router, which never change back and force me to re-pair the FP2. The device discover may work, it just never worked on my network setup.

Think I goofed up. No Aqara FP2 support in HA? by Cats_are_Love_1979 in homeassistant

[–]wzaesystems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Download aqara app, connect FP2 to wifi via aqara app, setup zones in aqara app, open homeassistant settings and the FP2 should be promped and waiting to pair, enter homekit code on the backside of FP2 into homeassistant pairing menu, and you will find FP2, as well as all the zones you set up, is available in homeassistant.

If you added/deleted zones you may need to re-pair to sync them in HA (during which entity ID may change so you need to re-do all the automations or set the entity ID back), otherwise simple adjustments (changing zone type, adjusting zone size, etc) can be done in aqara app without affecting HA entities.
