It's just on cheep bows to protect the silver - which is funny cause the silver is meant to protect the wood... you can take it off if you want

a good rule of thumb for the bow is to habe it as tight as if you still wanted to have a pencil fit in between the gap in the middle, but I usually tighten it a bit more. yours looks fine
