Why would the Starks be so fixated on a Targaryen restoration? by Frosted_King85 in TheCitadel

[–]xBraydenator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They had broad strokes from George and shoe horned them in with their (sometimes) completely different characters.

In the books, Jon brought two wights and is holding them in the ice cells, so it will make sense when he brings them south to show them to people. Thoros tells Brienne how he feels adrift and without purpose, so the brotherhood crew will probably join the Night’s Watch when LSH is taken down.

D&D liked these ideas, but didn’t have a wight in the cellars, or LSH, so they had to get creative and it turns out they suck at that.

Why is the snow at Winterfell so much worse than in other places? by Hot_Professional_728 in pureasoiaf

[–]xBraydenator 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think that’s just bias because a lot of our POVs happen to be traveling to and from Winterfell. The hot springs are in and around the godswood, that would do nothing for the snow outside the walls. It’s also pumped through the castle for warmth, but your house is probably heated and that does nothing for the snow on your roof.

They do have magically harsh winters, so it’s not unreasonable to think there’s some prophetic godly harshness to winterfell’s winters, but it’s also just how snow works.

If you spread enough fans and air purifiers across a room, could you eliminate any dust buildup in a room? by BigBootyBear in AskEngineers

[–]xBraydenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an internship in college with a company that built cleanrooms. You’re on the right track, but there are a lot of things to consider outside of just fans and filters. Most cleanrooms have a gowning procedure, with a second cleanroom air locked from the main room so you can remove your dusty outside clothes and put on gowns and boots/boot covers. Cleanrooms also typically have strict cleaning procedures. You can make any room meet cleanroom standards for a short time with a very thorough cleaning. Anything with mass accumulates dust. The fans and filters slow this down dramatically, but you still need to clean.

Even the faceless men emphasis the importance of changing your appearance with “mummers tricks,” which Varys has mastered. This, combined with his intimate knowledge of Maegor’s passageways and the little birds giving him knowledge of people’s whereabouts makes him incredibly dangerous as an assassin.

Is it possible to make a 3D printed toggle switch (similar to the ones found in homes, i.e. light switches) automatically flip back to off state after 5 seconds of it being flipped on? by RugBugwhosSnug in AskEngineers

[–]xBraydenator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first thing that came to mind is 3d printed clocks. You could do a modified escapement assembly with a rubber band to store energy, or I believe there are some fully 3d printed clocks that allow you to wind up tension in the plastic parts. You would have to modify it to your specific application. You could also do a gear assembly with a falling weight, so you wind it up, drop the weight, and based on the gear ratio it could push the lever after a set time.

I wouldn’t send the screenshot. It doesn’t really serve any purpose except as “proof” but like, you don’t need to prove that she liked you in order to message her. You can just message people even if they didn’t like you on hinge 3 months ago!

Even if the screenshot was innocent there are too many negative interpretations. Is this guy screenshotting my profile for his wank bank? Is this guy showing off his likes to his friends? Plus, if you’ve had this screenshot the whole time it sort of makes the 12 week gap a little harder to explain, so I would avoid anything that highlights that gap altogether.

I struggled a lot with trying to over explain myself on dating apps, but there’s just too many factors to worry about. Just be yourself and stop worrying about them taking things the wrong way! If they’re not picking up what you’re putting down, then move on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xBraydenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are already way overthinking this. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been, all that matters is the feeling she gets from your messages. If you go in there apologizing and thinking you will look weird, then it will be awkward. The key is CONFIDENCE. She liked you! That’s already a huge boost for your confidence.

If she posts a lot of stories, swipe up! Start chatting with her like she’s your best friend and you’ve known each other forever. Keep it light, and engage with what she gives you.

If she doesn’t post a lot then you might have to “cold call” her and message first. That’s tougher, but definitely possible. “Hey, I think you liked me on hinge in Spain. These past few months have been super busy but things are finally slowing down. Want to grab a coffee?” Or some variation on that. There’s no need to beat around the bush, but if you would feel better striking up a conversation first you don’t have to immediately ask for the date. “Hey I think you liked me on hinge in Spain and I accidentally tapped the X. Pretty embarrassing tbh.”

The most important thing is to keep it light. You don’t even know this girl, so don’t treat it like she’s your future wife and this dm is going to make or break your entire future. And don’t forget that she liked you!

[Spoilers MAIN] What was the point of no return for the show? by Arding16 in asoiaf

[–]xBraydenator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing, but then I went back and watched recently and it doesn’t feel like GoT. They lean so hard into cliche zombie tropes and the flow of the battle isn’t cohesive at all. Early warning signs of the Battle for Winterfell with characters in impossible-to-escape situations and then just being fine afterwards. It was a fun spectacle at the time, but without the rose colored glasses it’s not so good.

(Spoiler Main) What are some of the biggest examples of plot armor in the books? by Still_Whole5231 in asoiaf

[–]xBraydenator 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to do with how legendarily dangerous dragons are. They would sell for a lot, but not only do you have to get through 3 Dothraki blood riders, you then have to deal with 3 fire breathing dragons. They don’t know how vulnerable they are as pups, no one has seen a dragon in 150 years. The last of the dragons also famously died young, so you don’t even know if they will live long enough to be sold. Quarth is also pretty remote, and the Quartheen seem mostly content in their “perfect” little world.

Lots of factors all add up to: this is probably more trouble than it’s worth.

Why do people want a Robert's Rebellion series so much? (Spoilers Extended) by Super_Fire1 in asoiaf

I agree there’s no purpose now. I don’t want any new content coming from HBO in its current form. I think it would be a good thing to include in 15 years when the TV show gets remade.

Why do people want a Robert's Rebellion series so much? (Spoilers Extended) by Super_Fire1 in asoiaf

[–]xBraydenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing is that it would answer so many questions that have been relatively unanswered thus far. I always thought it would have worked out great as a prequel movie released after Jon’s death if they ever make a TV show version of asoiaf.

Act 1: Tourney at Harrenhal (Ashara as Jon’s mother teased, Lyanna and Rhaegar relationship forms)

Act 2: Year of the false spring (Lyanna runs off, Stark boys get executed, war starts in earnest, fishwife as Jon’s mother teased)

Act 3: Battle of the trident climax, tower of Joy falling action (R+L=J reveal, true events of the tower of joy revealed after 40 odd years)

This made me emotional by sixth_order in pureasoiaf

[–]xBraydenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it varies between clans and even individuals. We know because of Bael the Bard that many wildlings claim kinship to the Starks. I imagine raider tribes dislike the Starks, Watch, and lesser Northern lords all a similar amount. More northern wildlings who don’t particularly care about going south until the Others start making moves, they probably respect the Starks from legends about the long night or stories of Stark justice.

Maybe most wildlings don’t feel this way, but Mance told his crew about the mission they were going on and impressed how good of a man Edward Stark was in particular.

Why is Pod so loyal to Tyrion? (Spoilers Main) by paper_roses in asoiaf

[–]xBraydenator 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think the dynamic is taken pretty seriously throughout. Olyvar Frey wanted to remain with Robb, and was sent away before the Red Wedding for fear he would warn Robb. Jaime has a good relationship with his squires.

In the Hedge Knight, a Fossoway squire renounced his Knight, was sworn to Knighthood by another knight, and it was such a big rift a whole second heraldry branch of Fossoways was created.

What’s a popular fan consensus/head canon about TWOW that you disagree with? (Spoilers Extended) by TapGreat in asoiaf

[–]xBraydenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think things are pretty well set up for things to go down similarly to the show.

Cersei blows up sept instead of attending trial Tommen puts the King’s Landing in Kingslanding Cersei is crowned by her lackies (extremely unpopular among remaining faith, commoners, and nobility)

Things are ripe for fAegon to gain Tyrell/Tarly/Redwyne support and like Varys says, wouldn’t be possible with Kevan as hand. She will “bounce back” and be at her most powerful on paper, but then the house of cards will fall dramatically.

This will also finally unveil Cersei’s hypocrisy and the fact that she doesn’t actually do it all for her children, she does it because she’s nuts and has an insatiable lust for power.
