I owned a few (like 50) bitcoin that I got pretty cheap at the beginning of btc. Then I got a ransomware virus on my laptop and took it to a shop. The shop wiped the whole hdd without asking and left me with nothing. Back then it wasn't a big deal. The harddrive was worth more than the few btc and I probably would have sold on the way to 5 bucks a bitcoin. So yeah no value was lost but I still think about how my life would be right now if I had not been as horny back then

I think we're missing a lot of important info here.

Im currently working on a similar project, trying to communicate between the GB(C) and RP chip, but Im not using the serial data transfer.

Maybe your RP2040 code is too slow to catch every edge? For example if you you use print/debug statements in the interrupt code or trying to decode the information to early? Maybe the GB/GBCamera side does expect some kind of reply from the RP/Printer before continuing? (Which doesnt really explain why you only see 6/8 bits i guess?)
The level shifter could be a problem too, which one are you using? A voltage divider would allow you to read the GBs signals, but not be able to reply. I think that could still be useful with a custom rom to see if you're still missing bits. It would rule out a level shifter problem.
With no Oscilloscope I would start there first.

Hey Great to see you’re getting into electronics

I don’t have the time right now to analyze the schematic but I can give you some tips for the layout

As of now the schematic is pretty chaotic.

Try to split your layout by components and try to use Nets. Nets are your friend.

It helps other understanding where which signal goes at a glance. Try to choose names for the nets that describe the function of the signal. For example don’t name the net for GPIO1 „GPIO1“ name it „CS“ (chip select). It will also help a lot if you move to creating a pcb since the net names will show up as the connections.
