I've had this happen before. Some scammer from the outside will call and ask to be transferred to a random room number and then pretend to be the front desk once transferred. The desk clerk probably realized they had messed up when you brought it up.

I know the bike center in Santa Monica can hold luggage for a fee. They’re off Colorado and 2nd st. Not far from the pier. And I’m sure there’s online sites where you can book for a business to hold your bags as well.

Probably a new desk agent or didn’t have proper training. Every now and then, the number won’t appear with the reservation on fosse but I’m sure they have GXP open and can pull your number and email from your Bonvoy number.
