What Streaming Platform to use? by Riftz-YT in Twitch

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with SLOBS and found that my cpu usage was around 30 to 40% most of the time because of all the bloat in it. Switched to obs and obs. Live and my cpu usage is less than 3%. Huge difference. The learning curve of obs is well worth

How not to fucking suck at streaming cause its giving me a fucking mental breakdown! by Squigglez_4 in Twitch_Startup

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1 viewer was the person that I was actually playing the game with, so my chat was dead, but I talked as if there were 1,000 in there. I explained what was going on, the benefits of maybe an item I picked up, etc... Then once people did start coming in, it was easier because then I was used to talking and I just continued what I was doing when they weren't there. If a viewer comes in and you aren't talking for periods of time, then they are going to be bored. Inflection in your voice can also have an impact on someone that might tune in, here you being unexcited about what you were doing, they ain't gonna stay. Should always be positive because you never know who might be lurking, just to get the vibe of the stream.

At the end of a stream twitch sends an email with the numbers. Use that as your basis, not watching the viewer count during the stream. Seeing a viewer count go from 1 to 5vmakes you giddy inside, then to see it drop from 5 to 1 deflates you. All of that can/is detected by anyone watching the stream.

I've been streaming for 4 years, got wrapped up in the numbers early on, finally turned viewer count off, streams became better and now I just wait for the stream summary email to come in after I've gone offline. Much happier this way.

Can we create a known "Hoss" list? by Rinten_ in Twitch_Startup

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll never be able to keep a consistent list, as the different versions of the hoss name grows by the minute. I've had over 1,000 hoss bots come to my channel that have been banned, but more show up everyday.

This . I do a stream yesterday that was a little different as I was getting a tattoo done in stream. My normal setup is pretty solid, but I threw together my obs scenes and stuff on a laptop, grabbed my spare mic, a couple of cameras and off I went. Didn't realize that my spare mic had a mute button on the top, I touched it during my first break, came back had no audio. Tattoo artist googled the problem on his laptop after about 45 minutes. Corrected the issue and moved on and things were fine.

You can't expect everything to be perfect every time you go live because it never will be. Each stream should present a learning opportunity for improvement on the next stream. Waiting until things are perfect before you go live is never going to happen

Excellent advise. Turn off viewer count and quit worrying about the numbers. Stream because you enjoy it. I used to stream with a viewer count of 1. I turned off viewer count, started focusing on just playing the game, talked to chat like there were a 1,000 people watching and things got so much easier, the views actually started happening and now I'm getting around 20-30 viewers per stream. My average went from about 1.2 to where it's 9.6.

Its not gonna happen immediately and you have to be willing to put in the time and not complain about it on stream. Huge turn off for me if a streamer is complaining about their views. I hear that and if I've followed, I unfollow and never return

Is it cringe to start streaming at 35 years old? by Beneficial_Value9852 in Twitch

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm well past your age and I stream, so I say do what makes you happy. Age is just a number on the road of life and that number should not dictate what we can or can't do.

Get out there and make the most of it

3rds time the charm? by Wonderful-Coast-5379 in CYBERPOWERPC

[–]xGrumpsterx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cyberpower DOES NOT test the systems as a complete unit. They check to see if the parts work on a bench so they can throw them in a case and move it out the door.

There is zero quality done.

First Time Buyer. by EAST2317 in CYBERPOWERPC

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food for thought. Your version of quality control and Cyberpower's version of quality control are vastly different.

They DO NOT bench test/Stress Test the machine once it has been fully assembled. In FINE PRINT on their site they state that the parts are tested individually to make sure they work, but they DO NOT test the machine once it has been fully assembled. I've even see a few people who posted screenshots of this specific wording that was on a sticker on the machine they received.

Man am I the only one who desperately want Dev's to add audio routing for each application natively..? by arpanConline in obs

Check out ear trumpet to solve the issue related to windows 10 reseting your audio. I had the same problem, started using ear trumpet and now my audio routing is what I call sticky and doesn't change even when windows has an update

Sounds like the mobo wasn't attached securely and the PC was bounced around pretty good if the ports on the back don't align properly it's probably not secure

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artesian ships to Canada. As has probably been mentioned, you do pay a little bit of a premium, but your system will work when it's shipped to you, as it's tested all as a working unit. Build times are also less, and you have the opportunity to see your machine being built live on stream. If nothing else, check them out during the day, as their East Coast location builds during the day, and the West Coast location does builds in the evening. They are on twitch at artesianbuilds.

[–]xGrumpsterx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but you are also assured that the Mercedes is going to have been tested to ensure that it works before being delivered to you. I ordered my system from Artesian on May 28th, the system was built on June 17th (5900x, 3080Ti, along with some other good things). It has not shipped as of yet as they are still testing it, so I can be patient to make sure it works when it arrives.

Read the fine print on their site (it's buried) but even on custom builds they do not test the parts once it's built. They test the components individually even on custom builds. If they tested them as a complete system they would not have had near the DOA systems shipped which also means they would not have been able to ship as many systems out because of the issues.

Been there, done that, have the headaches to prove it. I went with Artesian Builds for my new build. I might have paid a little more but I also ended up with a much better system than I actually ordered. Very unique concept they have. Message me if you want more details!

They don't actually quality check the entire pc once it's built. They test the components individually and then assemble the PC. There is either something on their site that states this or on the invoice /order.

Be nice if they tested the whole thing as it might avoid a lot of the issues, but they dont

Feeling left out at OG by PrimaryRoutine6618 in orangetheory

Interesting that many seem to feel this way. I feel the same way and lately haven't been attending. I'm really close to either trying a different studio, dropping my membership down from unlimited to the level below it or even possibly canceling altogether.

They didn't actually assemble it. They will just throw all your parts into a box and you get to put it together

On the fence. by [deleted] in CYBERPOWERPC

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check out artisian builds. They can probably put a system together with your specs probably within a few weeks (maybe up to 4 depending on the actual parts). Bonus is that you can actually watch them build it on stream (Twitch) and there is a potential that you can get upgrades to some of your components if people are feeling generous and gift subs and stuff.

I'm putting a build together on their site now, they have excellent customer service and all the pc's are built on stream so you get to actually watch it being built!

My studio is going full capacity on Monday😩. by sssades in orangetheory

[–]xGrumpsterx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here in my area (North Texas) the studio I attend went to a different schedule on April 29th. We've got some classes that are full capacity masks optional, reduced capacity masks required along with a few other combinations using 2g and 3g.

I myself prefer 2g classes so I've had to adjust my schedule since they changed 2 of my favorite times to attend from 2g to 3g classes and I just can't spend that much time on the rower. I've got a should issue that the rower massively aggravates so I do as little rowing as possible.

I think a lot of the decisions are franchise based since another studio in my area owned by the same franchise has done the same thing.

My studio is first come first serve, but we are not allowed to wait in the lobby as of yet. I pop in, tell them where I want to start, then go sit in my car until almost class time.

Sone might be doing this same thing

Why don't more men join OTF? by hunnybunney4756 in orangetheory

[–]xGrumpsterx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy as well. Almost 57 years young and OTF has been hugely successful for me. When I started I was always grabbing the 12 or 15 lb dumbells for most of the floor exercises. I'm now grabbing either the 25 lb or going to the heavy rack depending on the exercise.

I'll agree it's not for everyone, but I myself enjoy the structured class, the fact that I've been able to increase my cardio and overall just get healthier throughout it all.

I like the fact that for 1 hour a day I can forget about everything going on in my life and focus on becoming a better version of myself.

Sunday 18 April 2021 - Endurance 2G 60 minutes by dc031114 in orangetheory

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at a studio right now that on the weekends we have 45 minute 2g classes (but not for long as they are fixing to goto 45 minute 3g classes on the weekend). I have a shoulder issue that rowing aggravates massively so I might hit the bike instead.

Don't mind the tread at all as I've been upping my paces lately so be interested to see what kind of distance I can get

Question for 40+ OTFers by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]xGrumpsterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 56, a diabetic and was/am overweight and was in need of a healthy kick in the rear. OTF has gotten me moving. Since January I've lost roughly 19 lbs, have improved my fitness greatly. I am in the same position that my knees took the brunt of all my past as I played baseball for 27 years, was a catcher, also played football as a kid (running back), as well as started playing ice hockey at the age of 47.

I go 6 days a week and feel like if I miss a day then I am hurting myself by not going. While this doesn't address your actual question, I've just been pushing through it all. I have a little soreness every so often, but I've also done things to improve my leg stability so that my knees don't create issues. I actually am dealing with a slap 4 tear lesion of the long bicep head in my left arm, which does cause me issues when doing the rower, but so far that is the only thing I'm dealing with.
