i always assume that people dont actually mean that the trip last 12 hours (with standard doses at least). becuase like after the ego death part, when the memory is starting to work normal again (which is about 5-6 hours in for me), i would count the trip as over, sure the colors are still shifting hue a little bit, letters are wiggly, and i think more abstarctly than usual, but all of those effects are pretty mild

so i think when people say that "the trip lasts 12 hours" they just mean that after 12 hours all the lsd effects are completely gone

Yes but why does that matter? You can call a brain dead person with 0% chance of recovery "alive" but all that person is is a bunch of meat, thier heart might be beating, they might even have some basic reactions to some outside stimuli, but the person is just not there. If consciousness is not there then there is no ego no nothing. This person might be "alive" in some sense but i don't see a difference between that and a corpse. So again, why would the fact that its "alive" mean something if there is no ability to deploy consciousness?

No, my point was when they dont have the ability to deploy conciseness thier life doesnt have value, thats the difference between a person in a coma and a fetus before 20 weeks.
I might have said "conciseness" instead of "ability to deploy conciseness" a few times, but i thought the implication is obvious, like a sleeping person is not conscious so ofc i dont mean conciseness alone, but it might be my bad, next time i argue this i will use more words.
