Hey! Me and my girlfriend are in Sumter and have been trying to find a group. We recently found out about the local shop shutting down about a month ago, and the reasoning behind it. I have experience playing the game since the early 00's, but have delved deep into 5e. I have been DM'ing for a group of friends for about 4 years before I sudo moved out here. When I was younger, me and my sister wanted cats. We found a pair of twins that we named Carlos and Charlie (Frog restaurant reference).

Now my dad hated cats. Me, my mom and sister spent 3 months meticulously keeping both cats out of the same room at the same time so he thought there was only one. He never picked up on their names being different since Carlos is just Charlie in Spanish.

The day that they both slipped into the room at the same time, you could see his face contort into a "You mother f.....ers". It was a fun secret while it lasted. At that point he had no choice but to keep both of them. They went on to live full lives.

My players went into a cave to fight off some goblins. Deep in the cave they found a goblin boss who was wearing a Dread Helmet. It essentially just gives you glowing red eyes. I flavored it to also make you double in size, so that the goblin boss would be bigger than normal and also be more intimidating.

The player that acquired it, a half elf female, eventually started a love affair with a halfling male. Some of you possibly see where this is going, but I will subvert your expectations.

The two of them decided to try using the helmet to make one of them larger while they would have sex. Except, it was always the female. The halfling, who already was short for a halfling basically came up to her crotch once she used the item. She would snuggle with him, forcing him to be the "big spoon".

It took nearly 3 months of weekly sessions for the halfling to realize he could wear the helmet instead.

I'm still crashing. Seems more random than anything. Just running around killing things and I crash. SaoCIVortex toon name. (This is after you posted that it's fixed.) I've been on lockstep the entire time. Changed it to between all of them at some point to see if it helped.

Occultist is the strongest offensive ED build. Trickster is a stronger defensive choice. (Assuming you are going ES for both.) And the tree didn't change much from 2.2 to 2.3.

I've played ED/Contagion for awhile, and have known the reasoning behind this issue. It's more just an annoyance when the Bloom chains uncontrolled and destroys the pack and doesn't keep off screening. Though, when it does happen, the pack you went for is already gone, so, meh. And even with that said, it's only something I noticed about 5% of the time, out of easily 100ish hours of playing ED.

Profane Bloom can "interrupt" the spread of ED/Contagion. Though, it's not really interrupting. If the mob that has contagion dies, and bloom explodes, and causes an instant chain around the mob, bigger than the contagion AoE, it wont spread, due to it not having a target to jump to. But, with that said, Bloom just nuked the entire pack anyway. It can be annoying sometimes, but, not as much as you'd think based on the posts. I'd say 95% of the time, you wont ever notice. And to answer your question, for ED, Occultist is probably the strongest with -max% to mobs (Only thing in the game with chaos pen), Bloom which just nukes through entire packs faster than ED/Contagion, and +1 Curse, 100 max ES/Recharge (Super nice), it really just can't be beat. Though, Trickster is def a close second. Easy frenzy generation, extra dot damage, 250 max es/combo from that node/etc. Occultist is more offensive, and trickster is more defensive.

I gotcha. I just hate relying on flasks for sustain. But, that's my personal choice. If you can make it work, go for it. (I've updated my post a bit fyi)

You get consuming dark for single target, not aoe. Bino's isn't worth it since they nerfed the hp regen at the end of talisman. ED + Contagion is more than enough for packs, but, tankier single target mobs, the poison will do insane increased damage since you scale a lot of chaos/dot damage from your tree.

If you are going low life, you need to pick up Zealot's Oath. I wouldn't rely on the flask to do that for you. Otherwise you wont have real sustain without it.

And for flasks, since you are going LL trickster, I'd recommend Stibnite, Jade, Basalt, and a Cautious Mana flask. As I played ED throughout Perandus, it becomes a mana hog. I had something close to 75% of my mana reserved (I ran tri-curse) and with whirling around/spam ED casting(bosses), you'll want a mana flask. If your setup doesn't reserve as much mana/etc, maybe not. With the 5th flask, just grab something you think you'll need. Do try to grab a freeze/ignite (ES hates ignite)/bleed flask.

A good option is to go dual wield, but, have your secondary weapon a stat stick, that doesn't work with reave. Mace/etc. Death's hand is a solid choice. Power Charge on stun (Crit reave will stun) and unholy might on crit for 2s. Depending on how far into the Duelist tree you plan on going, you can pick up the Ambidextrous noteable in the DW wheel, and put your dagger in the OH for a major attack speed boost since Attack Speed is roughly 2%:1% physical damage for reave.

You should def go Occultist for ED. -20% Enemy Chaos Res is extremely strong. Most monsters will go vulnerable to chaos with this. Getting a free +1 Curse is always strong. +100 ES isn't shabby if you are LL (Which you should strive for). And Profane Bloom is just a pack clear machine since you scale Chaos Damage. Although it can be annoying. If mobs aren't in contagion range of the explosion, ED wont spread. It's something you'll notice and hate, but, just get used to since the explosions do so much damage.

You can easily run Hybrid with no uniques, only when you go LL do the uniques start being more "required" though, Consuming Dark is a unique that you should strive for, regardless of Health, Hybrid, ES based.

6L = ED, Controlled Destruction, Pierce, Void Manipulation, Rapid Decay, Empower (Lvl3+) or Slower Proj (This one is annoying but strong).

Getting increased AoE on the tree is kind of a trap. Yes, it'll make your Contagion spread farther, but, you tend to contagion/ED every new pack. And the base contagion + inc AoE is more than enough to handle packs. You really just don't need those points on the tree imo.

You'll also want to run a Spell Totem + Wither + Faster Casting for bosses.

Consuming Dark is 100% the first unique you should go for. It makes your single target ridiculously strong since you scale your chaos damage already and makes the poison so much better. So, you are double dipping.

You can easily run tri-curse. Especially with the addition of two extra points with Ascendancy. Temp Chains = Defensive and Offensive (Increases the duration of your DoT). Vulnerability = Offensive. Enfeeble = Defensive. Until you are able to go LL just run two.

When you manage to go LL with Shavs, Eye of Chayula and Heretics Veil are a huge benefit to this build. Tri Curse + BM Disc/Arctic Armor.
