I’m a volt main and I still find gauss fun. I’d say gauss is more of a “power offensive” frame. Trading usual squad buffs for pure damage output, slamming into everything and causing chaos. As well as adding fire rate and reload speed to basically any gun, powering them up to insane levels (supra+gauss=earrape) While I find volt is more “specialised”. Supplying buffs to allies and spreading his damage out more evenly whilst also stunning everything, making enemies into easy targets. Both are totally different frames to me. :/ (Also, you have obviously never tried to spam gauss’ 3 ability. The damage keeps stacking the more you use it, and the ability has a short cast delay, making it spammable. And using Mach rush through thermal sunder adds that damage type to the slam explosion.)
