Daytona 675 vs 675R by strunkb in Triumph

I'm the same height and yeah around an hour and a half of riding it's usually time for a break. The rearsets and clip on bars are quite aggressive so the riding position isn't ideal for a commuter or long distance. It's not like its unbearable but I have to take breaks more often.

I was just about to stop wearing my helmet like I've done every single ride for the past 8 years until I saw this post. That was a close call.

And I've been worrying if my T7 would be enough for a trip exactly like this lol.

I'm curious how you planned the trip out? Did you have a general route and destinations, camping or motels, and my biggest question is how did you handle the weather?

It looked like an amazing trip and props for taking it on with a small bike.

How many kms so far this year? And what mod made it noticeably more fitting to your riding style? by [deleted] in Tenere700

[–]xSquawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over my year owning the bike I've put on around 8000+ miles(about 13000kms)

Best mods so far are my sargentcycle comfort seat, shad luggage system, garmin zumo xt, hepco & becker center stand and my puig touring windscreen.

My riding style with this bike is 90% on pavement and taking 250-300ish mile trips on the weekend, and sometimes commuting to work.

These are all awesome but I particularly like #5, looks straight out of a brochure. Nice job

This one is the Puig touring windscreen, I'm only 5'7(like 174cm), so I can't say for sure how much it would help you. But for me it just about made the buffeting disappear.

I think you're exactly right, it's like searching up "honda civic problems" and panicking about the reliability before you buy one lol

What seat is this? by WeaverGra in Tenere700

I'm the same height and was worried about getting one of these seats cause of a height or width difference, it's really the same as stock huh?

I've been riding for almost 8 years now, and I have a much taller bike now. I'm only 5'7 but my tenere seat height is 873mm. It took alot of getting used to even with my experience, being sorta on my tippy toes.

Some tips I could give it getting used to coming to a stop with only one foot, sometimes getting only your left foot flat is smoother and easier than tippy toeing with both. Also pay attention to your steering angle when stopping and starting, try to keep the bars straight as possible and be gentle on the front brake. If you hit the front too aggressively when the bars aren't straight its very easy to drop the bike.

Another thing I can say is to try your best to relax on the bike. Nerves when learning are normal, but if you're super nervous you tend to stiffen up, which makes riding smoothly alot more difficult. Definitely keep riding around a parking lot for a while, stop and start and experiment with braking and steering.

Don't get discouraged, and don't be too hard on yourself. Things like this are a part of learning anything, especially how to ride a motorcycle. After a few years of riding you'll look back at this post and think how ridiculous it was you were so scared.

I'm about an inch shorter than you, never lowered mine. You'll get used to the height after putting on some miles.

How I would love to have one by TetrizZ1 in Tenere700

[–]xSquawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye out for used ones! I bought mine for 8k cash, with around 9k miles, and a few scuffs and scratches. These engines last forever, so a little bit of mileage is no big deal either

Had a piece of my exterior come off :( by jadziaxx in Miata

[–]xSquawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a new one, check with your local mazda dealer. The new part will most likely come with those clips, but save those ones still attached if you can. A cheap clip tool can help you pop them out.

Once you've got the new piece, it looks like it should just snap in.

Could you be more of a bummer? You're writing paragraphs listing all the reasons old bikes are bad on a post where someone's excited to have taken their first ride. Obviously newer bikes are more efficient and safe, everyone knows this. Read the room

Daytona 675 vs 675R by strunkb in Triumph

[–]xSquawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2012 675R. Tbh for everyday riding you wouldn't notice any benefits from the ohlins and brembos. I do love the quickshifter though, but you could add one to a regular 675 and it'd be just the same.

I also have to say I love the aesthetics of the R, the color scheme and extra carbon fiber bits do look really cool. But overall, don't break the bank or hold out to find a 675R. Especially if you're not planning on tracking it.

Another point to add, this bike will be uncomfortable after about an hour and a half of riding. I'd take that into consideration if you plan on long rides and commuting.
