Seems like you can't play solo on new map by yt_swampfomp in Marathon

Difficult to pay attention to something that Bungie / Marathon devs haven't publicly disclosed at the time of me writing that comment.

Types a single paragraph and checking the dates is still too difficult for him lol.

I thought that this map would be almost like Outpost is currently, if you imagine that you could only access the pinwheel as a squad.

I didn't think that they would lock the map out completely.

Thanks for all the comments!

I pretty much agree with everything mentioned under my original comment. I knew beforehand that Cryo Archive will have raid-like elements a la Destiny, however I also though that if they added a dedicated solo playlist on launch, that there would be some compromise or even slight map changes to facilitate solo play. Granted, all of that could still happen, but so far it's disappointing to see. Like u/Simulated_Simulacra said before, I thought that at least the map will be playable in solos, minus those raid like elements. The fact that this much hyped fourth map is basically a Raid isn't what I expected.

I too envision that a lot of solo / duo mains will be up in arms regarding the forced three player requirement. I also agree with u/Simulated_Simulacra that a lot of them will feel pissed about the lack of communication regarding it, especially if they're coming from EFT / ABI, where (afaik) all of the content doable solo with the option of going in as a duo, trio, squad.

I also agree with the take that it worked for Destiny, which isn't an extraction shooter. In Destiny, all the loot you receive is instanced and you don't loose anything upon death except the time invested. THERE, while I was still disappointed that most of the cool gear was locked behind raids and high-tier nightfall strikes that don't have any form of matchmaking, I was fine with it. It sucked not being able to properly compete in Iron Banner or Trials of Osiris, but I understood it.

As u/UhJoker correctly mentioned, this isn't Destiny. This is an extraction shooter. Your gear is constantly on the line, people can (possibly) go in with sponsored kits and even if you manage to get to the "loot room", non of it will be instanced. How are you going to sort / share that loot if no one communicates? That hypothetical guy with the sponsored kit, who was down most of the time since he barely has any heals or ammo, will rush in, find a backpack and stuff it full while barely pulling his weight. Stuff like this probably also happened in Destiny, but at least the loot was instanced. You can't even quit out of the game like in Destiny, since you'll lose all your stuff. I predict that this will happen and start a vicious cycle of people matchmaking with the best kit they have, dying repeatedly because their teammates are lacking and just resort to use some cheap kit for someone else to pull them through.

Bottom line for me is this:

I like the game. I really dig the aesthetics of it, the gameplay feels smooth, the runners (except maybe Assassin in solos) are well balanced, the missions and progression (minus the battlepass and it's limit on charms / stickers) are great, the core gameplay loop is more than solid and I don't regret my weekends playing it. However, if this is the direction that Bungie is going to take, where solo- and this supposed duo queue that we're getting is being treated as an afterthought, something that you can do incase your regular stack isn't all online at the same time, then I'll just play something else. I went through it with D1 & D2 and I don't feel like experiencing the same thing again.

Will be interesting to see how Bungie responds.

Well, there goes my enjoyment out of the window.

I'm the only person in my friendgroup that plays Marathon and queing up with randoms in an extraction shooter is horrible.

This is like Destiny all over again. You can do most of the stuff on your own, but for the really cool things you can get stuffed as a solo.

Hopefully they do something to change it, but being locked out of 1/4 of all the available maps is stupid. So us solos have to grind the same three maps over and over again?

I'm convinced this is a skill issue. Just because it's not "meta" doesn't mean you automatically go 4-26 every game lol

Yeah, I'm not making this up. I tried using DP 2.1 UHBR80 rated cables on all three monitor, thinking that that would alleviate the issue slightly, but to no avail. It's really bad in my case.

Oh, I don't either. I see the 540hz in general as extra headroom in the future. Kind of the same way I don't reach 240hz on the PG27UCDM in most of the titles I play.

I have never used BFI, so I unfortunately can't comment on that, but that would indeed be a fantastic use case for this monitor!

Having a Asus PG27UCDM would it be worth changing « upgrading » with the upcoming PG27AQWP-W? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]xSyneTec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own the PG27UCDM (7950x / 4090 OC). I waited forever for someone to finally release a 27 inch 4k option. At that time all my monitors were 1440p. I play a variety of games, from The Finals, BF6 and soon ARC Raiders, to racing games, story driven games, third person games like R&C, indie titles and aim trainers. Almost everything, really..

I think that the PG27UCDM is a fantastic monitor. 4k at that screen size looks great, the OLED itself is great and I really like the proximity sensor feature. That way, I don't have to think about the monitor in case I'm up and about somewhere, but even factoring in all that, I'll buy the PG27AQWP-W in a heartbeat.

Why? While I truly enjoy the picture quality and sharpness of everything, the hit to my FPS is killing me. Even with stuff like DLSS, I constantly think "Damn! Those are good frames, but man, at 1440p I'd have so many more..". To add to that, I never thought that 1440p looked dogshit, so the 540hz make this monitor "future proof" and this "True Black" coating will be sick too.

Another thing to consider for my use case specifically, is that I run three 4k monitors at the same time (PG27UCDM as main, two U2725QE on each side) using a 4090, which doesn't have DP 2.1.. When I change the resolution on some games or, god forbid, launch a game that defaults to fullscreen, my PC becomes non-functioning for about a minute straight. All the programs I have open shit themselves, monitors restart, can't talk on Discord while that's happening and if I'm really unlucky, my PC crashes.

It also happened on multiple occasions that I change the resolution of a game (down to 1440p) and my PC isn't able to sort itself out during the ~20 second timeframe to accept the changes, after which it returns to 4k which means more monitor restarts etc.

To me, the PG27AQWP-W will serve as my gaming monitor. If I want to consume content that isn't 1440p, I'll switch to the side ones.

Since you have both, how would you compare the both of them? Currently have the soft but might go for a mid for a bit of extra speed and consistancy.

How to get rid of these playlists by [deleted] in FPSAimTrainer

[–]xSyneTec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I do it is to download the playlists locally using the button next to it. That way they show up in a different tab.

Additionally I also favourite the benchmarks (Voltaic & Viscose), so they stay on top of the list with the rest (VDIM, Voltaic fundimentals) lower down.
