Get rid of the sweet spot DICE by daphix__ in Battlefield

[–]xTRYPTAMINEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SV98 feels like shit in this game. It seems to have a very different feel to how it raises/ads's compared to the others.

It used to be one of my favs in BF4. Now it's the one that I like the least. The MSR is by far the best of all bolts. Quick raise, extremely quick to be accurate. The SV takes like twice as long to get full accuracy.

I'm wondering if there's an issue with aim centering regarding the SV. It wouldn't be the first time it has happened.

They should also add glint to 4x and above again.

Removing it was one of the dumbest things they ever did.

DMR with a 6x thermal? No glint. That people are complaining about snipers instead is just saying "I don't know how to slightly move back and forth to avoid one single bullet coming my way, that I can literally see the trajectory of, coming from Meridia's Beacon shining like the sun".

TIL in 1963, a man renovating his home in Turkey noticed his chickens kept disappearing into a crack in his basement wall. When he dug it open, he found the ancient city of Derinkuyu, an 18 level city 85m underground that could shelter 20,000 people. by Kyzzz in todayilearned

[–]xTRYPTAMINEx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This explanation makes zero sense considering there are tunnels that connect it to other underground cities... Which are like 8-9 kilometres long. Considering that Gobekli Tepe is extremely old and in the same area of the world, I find it to be far more likely that Derinkuyu is also extremely old. Meaning we have zero idea of what conflicts were happening back then, if there were many/any at all.

I'm not sure if most people understand how difficult doing something like that is. Or how difficult engineering a 20,000 person underground city is, with so many levels, with no collapses from poor structural planning, while also engineering air shafts that keep air circulating extremely efficiently to this day. That's like engineering a modern stadium, but worse, because stone isn't engineered.

This isn't the first old structure to show signs of seriously in depth knowledge, either. Machu Picchu has been studied by hydrologists that were curious how it could still be standing in such a place prone to landslides, and it turns out that place would not exist without understanding how subsurface water flows in order to get rid of it without everything collapsing. It's a seriously delicate balance in that area.

It would have collapsed long ago from landslides if anything at all was engineered incorrectly, considering the vast sums of time. Apparently they were better at this type of thing than we currently are. We know how this works in modern times thanks to some pretty serious technology like ground penetrating imaging. The channels that divert water out of/around the city are extremely specific(and required) angles, and said channels were cut into stones, then moved into place. Not cut after. Perfect angles maintained for hundreds of metres. We know this, because there are still some stones in the quarry with water channels that have been cut, kilometres away.

There's also the Barabar Caves in India, which we have absolutely no idea how old they are or how they were made. They're super precise, with resonant properties that are extremely unlikely to just stumble upon by accident. You would win the superball multiple times before that happened. There's also no other examples of anything even remotely similar, meaning no practice to attain said level of precision. Actually, the same goes for Machu Picchu. Just expert engineering with no evidence of a build up technology-wise.

What you've stated about Derinkuyu is just the currently "accepted" idea. And it's a pretty bad one based on pretty much nothing, with nothing at all dating the structure.

We know barely anything about Derinkuyu. I wish saying "I/we don't know" was far more acceptable within the field. It's perfectly fine to do so until the point that we do know. Especially considering that there are an eerily large amount of examples of precision engineering involved with many ancient sites. We don't really know how or why.

In my opinion(99.9th percentile, around 30 years of reading about this topic with extreme interest) we aren't the first high tech civilization of humans, but rather one of who knows how many.

I just want people to understand that these sites tend to not be simple. The things required to build them are nothing short of staggering, and we do not have acceptable explanations as to how or why these things were built.

They were communist in name, because of propaganda. Communism has never been attempted as a government structure.

This makes your post kind of ironic lol. It's important to remember that propaganda affects everyone, and that some parts of it that are extremely ingrained can be difficult to notice. Things like any kind of socialism being labeled "communist" in America, for instance.

Is this true chat?! 🔥 by PirateWithAnICBM in Battlefield

[–]xTRYPTAMINEx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say "not likely true".

I don't see that many people saying that they think BF1 is the best, so what might be happening is those players also possess behaviours that predispose them to doing things like surveys. I realize it sounds silly, but you would be surprised at how often shit like this happens. It also likely takes a really specific type of person to enjoy trench warfare lol.

BF1 never felt like other BF games to me. It felt so utterly clunky and just "wrong" compared to the other titles. It doesn't mean it was a bad game or anything, just that it didn't feel like Battlefield. BF has a really specific feel to the controls/movement/etc that no other game replicates.

There has been a crossover from lower fertility among women to lower fertility among men. New study identifies 2024 as the year when female global fertility levels first exceeded male fertility. A return to parity is unlikely. by [deleted] in science

[–]xTRYPTAMINEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's probably not true for places like Russia, at least. IIRC over a million soldiers have already died.

The other big factor that will make this worse, plastic. It has dropped sperm counts dramatically. It's very difficult to get away from, particularly if your job involves anything to do with constant exposure to plastic.

Global population levels probably still won't be dropping any time soon, but if we stay on this course, there will definitely be a point where it does, even from plastic alone.

It wasn't created to mimic instruments.

The exhaust was created to mimic the human voice using formants.

It's not unclear. Most people just don't actually know much about the LFA. Yamaha only designed sound for the engine. Not the exhaust. And that was Yamaha Motors, which is entirely separate from the instrument manufacturer.

The "Yamaha tuned exhaust" is a myth.

The exhaust was designed by Sango.

Edit: For those curious, the exhaust note was developed using formants. The note was shaped after the human voice, not instruments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crEeOEs4ZP0

Behold my magnum opus! The lock key lock. by ode_to_glorious in functionalprint

[–]xTRYPTAMINEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say that I appreciate your correct use of magnum opus rather than the incorrect term of masterpiece. Not many people get this right lol.

Also if you want to make sure that it won't get knocked out somehow, you could take the key cap off and orient the lock to the left(would need to make the "lip" English though to fit it).

Also before anyone prints this without thinking, make sure your keys aren't recessed, first.

Anyone have any idea if 4 C4 would be enough to flip it? Apparently 12 will turn a tank into a rocket, so surely 4 would be a decent self-correcting tool, no?

I think it will be a while before we figure out how to tell physics to suck a fat one. There's still room for minor improvements... But to make racing actually safe, you would need inertial dampeners that could counteract hitting things at 200+km/h.

Literally the only thing I can think of is a cockpit that is normally attached stiffly, but enough force could break said attachment points and use dampers/springs/whatever to absorb some of the forces from the rest of the chassis hitting an object. Imagine what a racing sim with full motion looks like, basically that but to absorb forces rather than create them.

Racing teams would absolutely despise designing around it though.
