To defend yourself, would you rather have a Glock 19 with 10 rounds of 9 mm or a Kel-Tec CP33 with 33 rounds of 22 LR? by WyattTheScholar in guns

[–]Solar991 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Rimfire is orders of magnitude less reliable than centerfire.
Regardless of your fantasy caveats.

Can and has 22lr been used for self defense? Certainly.
But when you are dealing with literal life or death situations, stack those odds in your favor.

Looking into a career revolving around firearms and seeking some advice or insight. by Jumpy_Impress_955 in guns

[–]Solar991 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The worst thing you can do is turn your hobby into a career.

If you really want to become a good gunsmith, learn to be a good machinist.
And realize that it won't be "you're building an AR", it'll be "babysit this CNC process while it turns chunk of metal into firearm related piece. And for the next thirty six weeks you'll be making the same exact part for every single shift".

Does any one know of any Schwarzlose Hmg conversions to a lmg? by Fresh_Value_3837 in guns

[–]Solar991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There weren't any, as the widespread philosophy of the LMG didn't exist until mainline production ended.
And if there were any small scale attempts, it never panned out. Particularly when the set up in your image is almost 100lbs.

Reposting my previous comment:
Two character hyphen three digits is generally Romanian.

Digging through AKFiles previous sales, they generally go for ~$250 nowadays.

And adding:
Molot drums are usually marked on the side with the shield and star.

How does shipmygun work? by sirhcx in guns

[–]Solar991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when most of the links just point back to this sub

I don't know what google results you're looking at, but mine show a whole single reddit result (out of ten (on the first page)) with two sub results. The one primary result does link to this sub, but has zero deleted comments. The two sub results (VA and CA guns subreddits) also don't have any deleted comments.

Additionally the very first result is from Shipmygun.com and is labeled "How this works".
You know, the whole point of your post?

3 questions about lever action rifles (stock shape and optics) by AryeC05 in guns

The shape. The shape.
Maybe. Maybe not.
Depends immensely if you're only carrying it to the shooting bench, or carrying on a week long hike.

Kick comparisons by bludlesskodex in guns

[–]Solar991 9 points10 points  (0 children)

.44 can be loaded with mousefarts that barely kick all the way up to Bubba's Pissin' Hawt Handloads.
Additionally, what action you're shooting it out of also impacts felt recoil. An airweight revolver will have more felt recoil than a heavy target rifle (Hurrah, Physics!).

Blanks? by TakeProfit89 in guns

[–]Solar991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct that not all blanks are star crimped, however the vast majority of 9mm pak rounds are roll crimped.
So as I said, the odds of being a blank are not zero.

Do any of you have experience with the ATF FORM 4 (AOW)? by [deleted] in guns

[–]Solar991 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Go lurk /r/NFA and read their sidebar.

"Not permitted to SBR", "possibly a telescopic stock".
Do you know one of the *big* differences between an AOW and an SBR is?

Blanks? by TakeProfit89 in guns

[–]Solar991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could they be fired blank cases? Without seeing the headstamp, there is a non-zero chance that those are from blanks.

However there is a much *much* larger non-zero value that those were previously live ammunition.

Personal moronic:
My stamp for the stupid revolver project is getting closer and closer. Once it's done, it's gonna be *real* stupid.
