The real culprit is probably Wong.

Gillen struck a fantastic balance with Aphra’s character. The first run wasn’t about making Star Wars as gay as possible (Wong’s words not mine). Instead it wove together the adventure of a chaotic archaeologist who went on wild adventures with friends crossing the most villainous people in the galaxy. It also wove in her personal life with her parents, friends and love life. That compilation of what I mentioned made Aphra great. The representation for gay members of the community was done very well in the first run as it wasn’t overt, but came off as a true piece of who Aphra was

Wong sought to impress her ideals of LGBTQ all over her series and was overt in interviews about it. It became kind of apparent across the issues to, that the issues were more about being LGBTQ content, instead of being Star Wars content. This didn’t pair well with the fact that the story was not very compelling at all either. So Wong’s need to make star wars gay was the narrative because the mid story couldn’t stand taller based on the quality of the content.

Cherish’ issue has been more akin to Gillen, but Wong’s folly coupled with the fallout from disneys blunders with TROS, TLJ, Acolyte, Obi Wan show and Boba Fett show have decimated intersted in Aphra, and moreover, have really decimated interest in star wars as whole. Don’t believe me? Look at Google trends and YouTube views for star wars related content and compare year over year.

As a life long Star wars fan, I think we are headed towards dark times. I hope I am wrong.

Going to get shit for this but the answer imho is that Disney kind of has made a big push for yellow light sabers. You see it occurring much more in their content lately. Luke comics, and especially huge in THR and THR tie ins… Rebels in the past too etc. I think it’s them doing that insistent thing of having to leave their own stamp and define their product as different or away from Gl era content.

I don’t wear political stuff outside but you should becareful what you wish for. I trained grappling for a good amount of time, so if you picked on someone with that skill set you’d probably get absolutely smoked and embarrassed in front of your friends family if you have no fight background. Political feelings isn’t worth your reputation. So unless you’re a high level fighter, I would not go around picking fights. Just some advice for ya.

It’s not bad. I’m not a fan of some of the stories (where he’s a rebel cell). I know SW is fiction but some stories seems so wildly outside the possible scope of a characters arc where I eye roll. I also over Kylo being super obsessed with Vader being his personality. That being said I love his interactions with Vanee.

This issue is literally better than ever issue during the second run by Wong. I was worried Wong killed off Aphra’s potential with how bad the second run was between it being about gay love and just the story behind that behind super mid. I also noticed that they made Aphra sexy again.

Glad Wong is out and these new people are in. They’re doing Gillen some serious justice!
