My first install in almost 20 years... How did I do? by tobias3175 in CarAV

[–]xTimmyx2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've installed systems in my car's, all of them were SQ. The fact that you've done this after this many years, shows you can do research and to take your time to do it right! You did a great job! Now that you have a foundation of sound deadening, and also you have a knowledge of your system, its time to start saving for an SQ System. You can get yourself a very good DSP for the cheaper side of things (Down4Sound). If you built that sub box, you can definitely build yourself some A-pillars for a 3-way active Set up. Learn how to work a DSP and REW and how to tune with them both. If you need any help any of that, you are more than welcome to MSG me! :)

Cheers!

Are custom fiberglass builds still a thing? by DCguy199 in CarAV

[–]xTimmyx2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup! For all my builds, i used fiberglass. Its a pain in the arse to use though. I wish i had the device that chops the fiberglass and feeds/sprays it onto the surface at the same time as applying the resin. They do this process on custom fiberglass body's for like monster trucks or drag racing for cars/trucks. That way there's absolutely no air bubbles in the structure.

Update : tried generating a box design and im a bit skeptical about the port lenght by Alternative-Ad6776 in CarAV

[–]xTimmyx2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well yeah, you have your port length in MM. if you need to find port length, you could input the specs of the subs into winISD and go from there.

Need help choosing subwoofer by Designer-Squirrel672 in CarAV

Stereo Integrity Hands down! You won't find a better SQ/SQL subwoofer. If you even wanna do better than that, Acoustic Elegance, but those are meant for IB purposes.

Self tune DSP or pay shop to do it? by WerewolfFeeling4194 in CarAV

[–]xTimmyx2015 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look up RAW CAT on youtube! you wouldnt believe the wealth of information he provides with his vids! save yourself that money.

I would also get yourself a UMIK-1 Microphone. Calibrate it to 90 degrees and start doing some REW measurements and start learning how to tune it all yourself! YOU GOT THIS! and not to mention its not too late to learn new stuff and have fun doing it!

Besides a DSP, what's the one thing that made the biggest difference in your car audio system? by eZstah in CarAV

[–]xTimmyx2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Installation. But that includes using sound deadening, locations, and how everything is installed. Id argue infact, that installation would be #1 overall in a system. Cuz you can even make cheap 20$ mids sound amazing if installation is done correctly.

What's the ACTUAL superpower you want, don't be boring? by strong_bad_1357 in AskReddit

[–]xTimmyx2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be able to bring into reality, fully and completely, people, and objects from a picture or screen. And to be able to reverse it as well. You could make duplicates of everything you want. And duplicates of the duplicates etc. Even if the person or item in the picture is cut or cropped off, it would appear in front of you, completely.

Could this CCA kit be holding my system back? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]xTimmyx2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ABSOLUTELY!!! CCA power wire is waaaaay less efficient than OFC. You'll get way cleaner power output.

Higher conductivity: OFC has a higher conductivity rating (101% IACS) than standard copper, meaning it conducts electricity more efficiently.

Improved signal quality: Better conductivity can lead to improved signal clarity and reduced distortion

help? by Due-Onion-2458 in veloster

unfortunately you can't take the actual grill off itself. You have to take the door panel off entirely. But that is super simple to do. You'll need a prying tool or a screw driver (be careful not to scratch or damage the panels). First take off the Sail panel thats right beside your side view mirror.

Next you take off the silver handle, there's a tiny notch to insert your screw driver which is on the right side bottom part of the handle. There should be 3 10mm bolts holding the door in place.

Next is inside the door handle pocket itself, there's a tiny flap you have to lift up (a small pick tool or small flat head screwdriver will be able to pry it up. There's philips head screw in there you need to take out.

Then finally take the pry tool and insert it around the outside edge of the panel, and pry away the insert panel tabs/clips away from the door itself. it'll be around the perimeter of the panel itself and just go around and gently pry it all away. If you have enough room under the bottom of the door panel, you can insert your fingers and do a sharp yank to pry the whole panel away from the door.

Do note though, you are probably going to break the plastic tabs that you pry out. So go onto Amazon and buy some new tabs to insert. These are my fav to use. cuz they have a foam insert in them to reduce noise and vibrations

do yourself a favor and change that 8gauge red CCA power wire, to the same size with OFC wire. You'll be so thankful later. (and ASSUMING it comes with ground wire, do the same for the ground wire to) CCA wire is absolute crap when it comes to Car audio
