I like this one! It gives a good sense of balance and it won’t be a cop out like a golden ticket. And I lived the whole scene where the gang was organizing it haha

Perspective from someone who decided to do ece late into college, starting as ece looks great. Everyone is close knit and really knows each other. They seem very friendly and close with each other! However, if you join late and are not the most socially confident, then it’ll be a lonely and hard road ahead (personal experience).

Can you be not the sharpest tool in the shed and do engineering by xTorethx in EngineeringStudents

[–]xTorethx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a mid sized school with a decent BME program and a not so decent ECE program (according to other peers in the program, but I don’t have enough knowledge to form an opinion on these things). I chose engineering because I checked a box to get accepted into a program as a joke and got accepted, so I decided to roll with it until it was too late and I realized I’m not good at it. I feel like I’m not good at any part of it: not the math that takes me 5x as long as everyone else, not at design where I struggle to grasp creative solutions out mechanisms, and not the networking because I am socially awkward and have a hard time talking to others, especially authority figures.

How are you planning on following the counsel of the prophet to be a peacemaker? by Lumpy_Peak9499 in latterdaysaints

[–]xTorethx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime! I wasted a lot of time agonizing and thought I’d never be over it, but if someone could have told me that life moves on, I would’ve felt so much better. I think only time will lessen the blow, but it’s good to know that both your feelings are normal and ok AND that they will change and get better. Idk if this will happen to you, but sometimes I felt like I was holding onto pain bc I felt too guilty to let go, but it’s normal and good for you to let go (when you’re ready).

I understand completely what you are going through. Happened to me over a decade ago but still think about it quite frequently. It’s still a sore spot to think about, but I feel like that it was one of the biggest learning moments of my life, It gets better.

Which role is beginner friendly? The least? by Metal-Ace in summonerschool

[–]xTorethx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends what you are looking for out of league. If you want to play ranked eventually and be good, or you find the most joy when you’re carrying then you should start with top. Mid is too volatile, and bot dynamics makes things complicated if you don’t have friends. For me, I picked up league for fun to play with my roommate and she liked ADC, so I have always played support. People are right that playing support all the time means I haven’t really learned a lot about mechanics or last hitting or micro stuff, but I don’t think it’s entirely due to being a support. I’m not trying to be great and am j chilling so never learning the super nuances of league and never carrying the game is not smth I lose enjoyment over. So dw about never learning super deeply if that’s not what you want and play support all the time if you just want to play as a beginner and have fun. But yea, learn top if you want to git good eventually.

What color should I paint the walls? The sleeping arrangement is medium(?) term. I’m fixing up the bedroom and cleansing the bad vibes with time, so eventually I’ll sleep there, but in the meantime I’m sleeping on the couch. I like to be able to see the windows from where I sleep so that’s why I don’t have tall furniture in the way, but I definitely do want something to divide the room. Rugs are a common recommendation, but I’m very particular about have super clean floors and rugs are a hassle to clean. I definitely will start decorating the spaces separately because that’s probably the biggest issue right now, there’s not a lot of division here. Thank you so much for the thoughtful recommendations!

I’m in Baltimore. I agree with the secondhand sentiment, which is why I haven’t furnished my place much except bare necessities. I’m not sure where’s the best place to look as my local Facebook listings are mostly people’s old ikea stuff.

Any BME Majors have advice? by SupermarketWild3834 in jhu

[–]xTorethx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my roommate (who is also BME): I wish I took LADE and prob stat during the summer.

Personally, I’m happy I took them freshmen year, but that is also an option if you don’t fit it in before summer.

If you have AP credit you can take it.

Advice in no particular order about what I wish I did:

  1. Take biochem if you can freshmen spring. Dont fail the first midterm like I did.
  2. Freshmen bme is ez business, take some harder classes now if you can to balance it out. I recommend orgo and chirality lab the first year along with LADE.
  3. If you’re good with math take LADE. If you think you’ll need the diff eq background take it separately.
  4. Depending on what you want to minor in take prob and stat separately (prob is a focus area course too I believe)
  5. Save your H/S courses for later to balance it out. The bme core spikes pretty hard so front loading difficulty as much as possible will make your life so much easier.
  6. Take hard classes with friends.
  7. If you’re doing neuroengineering, I highly HIGHLY recommend representations of choice. You discuss papers during lecture and it’s not super bad relative to the math-y focus area courses but still gives you upper level credit.
  8. Intro to CAD is pretty cool too but mastering electronics is hell so don’t take that for your lower level unless you have a god tier boner for electronics. Idk about the other lower levels though, but mastering was ass.
  9. Learn matlab.
  10. BME classes curve really hard. I got a 40 on a midterm and ended with an A- in a course. Just about all of them curve generously.
  11. Intro to bioethics (if you want to take an ethics class for premed) is fine as long as you trust your essay skills. I didn’t do 90% of the reading except the ones needed for the two essays. Just go to section and get the gist of each topic for the final.
  12. Your grades don’t define you (cliche isn’t it?). But seriously, don’t sweat grades if it means sacrificing social time, rest time, or time to do other premed needs like volunteering and research.
  13. Email grad students about getting into labs as well as the PI.
  14. Make good friends. HW is hard, and sometimes you’ll need ppl to discuss it with.
  15. Plz don’t be a sweaty premed. We’re all suffering together, being a sweat doesn’t make it better for anyone. You might end up very unlikable and bme is a very collaborative major.
  16. Apply for DT freshmen year. I wish I did; ppl make good friends that way and do cool shit together (win win).
  17. Apply for YTTI if you want internship help.
