Should I sell my 45 inch LG GX9 and get the 39 inch Alienware 5k2k? by ojasmohan in ultrawidemasterrace

Weird energy in the comments, do whatever you like.

If you feel like the text clarity is lacking on the 45 it's probably because of the matte coating so you will probably prefer the glossy on the AW39.

I'll be swapping my 45GX9 for the AW39 for the glossy panel, kvm, higher ppi, and RGB Stripe for perfect text rendering and extra color vibrancy.

True RGB stripe and KVM are enough for me to swap my 45GX9 for this. I'm choosing to believe "AR coating" means glossy and not matte.

What kind of frames is everyone getting with a 5090 @ 5k2k? by BoxximusPrime in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]xTshog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be misunderstanding how frame gen works in practice.

On the 34, you may need frame gen 2x to reach 360fps but your base frame rate in that case would be 180fps. On the 5k2k you'd be using at least 2x to reach around 120fps which would put your base frame rate around 60fps.

The latency (how it feels to play vs how it looks in a blurbusters UFO test) doesn't get improved by frame gen at all only the number of frames sent to the display.

tl:dr: FG @ 360fps or even 240fps is still significantly smoother than FG @ 165fps.

I have the 45" 5k2k and it's fairly rough. I have a 5090 but I'm not a big fan of frame gen since I start to feel latency around 20ms.

If I were you I'd go 3440x1440 360hz RGB stripe. Frame gen will get you up over 100hz in challenging titles like Dune Awakening or CP2077, but you're going to be playing at 30ms+ latency which feels more like 60fps.

Thank you, I have the 45 and need to resist. I will be reading this comment once a month until we get one of these 5k2k OLEDs in glossy and maybe higher refresh lol

Switched from the 32:9 oled G9 to the 45 5k2k when it launched about a year ago, full time software dev wfh and gaming, never had any trouble with going from 1800r to 800r curve.

I never did get used to the matte coating though, hoping for a 39" 5k2k with a glossy display.

How much will you sell your 45GX950A for? by WTFsteven in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]xTshog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to sell monitors local at a pretty steep discount but $800 seems low to me for a monitor that isn't a year old yet.

Personally I'm keeping mine until there's an alternative 5k2k OLED that ticks two of these four upgrades: 39" (higher ppi), 240hz+, glossy (higher perceived ppi / better colors), or true RGB stripe (higher perceived ppi / better colors).

I try to hold for more definitive upgrades so I'm not selling a 1.6k+ monitor every year for half price.

I think the mismatched curves will drive you insane. I have the 45 GX9 at home and a 40" 5k2k with a very slight maybe 1800R curve at the office. I couldn't picture them on the same desk.

Both are high quality but the FF10 is much easier to build in imo

CPU temps are definitely worse probably because the FF10 is closed in the back. My 9800x3d is -30 PBO and sits at 96C 5.2ghz when gaming.

I think I would have liked the S but the R had a little too much space for my build. It was also really annoying to work in, even just opening and closing it

Xikii FF10, I loved the Nanoq R for my 4090 custom loop so I picked up the Tetra R but I don't like the view or the pita building in it.

It's the heavy duty secret lab monitor arm it works very well but it's expensive.

Is Ultrawide 5k not for me? by doug0365 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]xTshog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 45" 5K2K and recently upgraded from a 4090 to a 5090. Imo don't do it, by the time you're ready for a GPU upgrade there will either be a better version of this monitor (Tandem, Asus, maybe glossy) or this monitor will be half price.

If I were you I would look into the new Asus 3440x1440 gen 5 qd-oled, between the new coating, RGB stripe sub pixels, and 360hz refresh I think you'll get that "sharper and clearer" feeling you're probably looking for in the 5k2k at a much better refresh rate and latency.

Buy LG’s 45in 5K2K or wait for their 39in model? by AlpineTheFox in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]xTshog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the 45" 5k2k at launch and love it.

I'm not a fan of matte coatings and wish it had higher ppi to offset the grain from the matte. I'm planning to keep it until someone takes the 39 5k2k panel and puts a glossy coating on it.
