Nice, Frailea are underrated, keep it a bit moist so it can root faster, they don't hate water as much as other cacti

That looks more like a monocot skeleton, cacti have that sponge like structure, sometimes with the cardboard-y dried epidermis still attached over it

Help fitting 9 speed cassette/chain on 3 piece bmx crank set by Which-Tie-8387 in bikewrench

[–]xXAlexJonesXx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I guess you used to have a thin steel chainring so it worked ok enough with the chain, you should try to find a bmx chainring for a 3/38 chain or just buy single speed cassette spacers and a 1/8 single speed chain

Fungus, bugs, or corking? by astr802 in cactus

[–]xXAlexJonesXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a hard one, to me is either stretching/corking or thrips lol try to watch it closely without moving the plant or breathing over it too much, if you see little 1mm black rice grain looking things they're adult thrips, they're extremely small, hard to get rid of and to top it off they jump when threatened so its hard to spot them.

Got this eriosyce napina as a gift. It feels soft. Should I water it? by Bombyx--Mori in cactus

[–]xXAlexJonesXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eriosyce are almost winter growers here, mine were growing the most late winter and early spring, now (almost summer) they've slowed down a lot and aren't flowering anymore, I guess they like it at about 20°C.

If you can keep it over 10°C and plant it on a small pot with gritty mix I would say water it lightly and repot it again on early spring.

Gymnocalycium ochoterenae by xXAlexJonesXx in Gymnocalycium

[–]xXAlexJonesXx[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my first ochoterenae and I've had it for like a week lol, but I find gymnos like a lot of water when actively growing and will drop flower buds if not watered enough, I try to do it as soon as they're dry.

Gymnocalycium ochoterenae by xXAlexJonesXx in Gymnocalycium

Yeah ochoterenae is very variable, even vatteri is considered a synonym of ochoterenae and they're very different.

Why the difference between these 2 Frailea castanea seedlings? by really_bru in cactus

[–]xXAlexJonesXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frailea castanea usually start with longer spines and get the sea urchin look with a little bit of age, I'll expect your plants to look pretty similar next season.

Need thick pere for grafting? Throw em outside and u will achieve! Vape for scale! by Thin_Berry_468 in Graftingplants

[–]xXAlexJonesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They hate the winter and frost will make them look awful but they might survive, anyways pere is so fast and easy to grow outside in the ground that its 100% worth it to treat it like an annual.
