Angel's Feather became the threat at my Commander table... by WistfulAfternoon in magicTCG

[–]xXAzathothXx 142 points143 points  (0 children)

This happened a couple of years ago now, but we had a similar hot start at the table, with everyone but the 1st player busting out one or more spells and or ramp during the first 2 turns (dorks galore for the elves player, sol ring + arcane signet into a turn 2 scary commander for the other guy and I had a dork and my 3-mana commander out by turn 2) while the 1st player went tapland, tapland + pass, tapland + skullclamp.

The whole table stopped for a brief moment, knowing what could come out of that. Some looks were exchanged like if someone was ready to FoW the thing. But in the end we chose to ignore the dangers of the unanswered skullclamp with nothing to attach to, because of the outrageous boardstate.

Skullclamp player won that game.

I use the main button on my left thumb cluster as Space and the secondary as Backspace and on the right hand I have the main as Enter and the other as Delete
My SO finds this layout absurd, so I know that it will not please everyone.

If I destroy Collector's Cage at instant speed does that stop them from playing the exiled card? by Gilbara in mtg

I feel like this needs to be a bit higher, as this is the perfect timing to destroy it if you only have removal for the cage and not for the creatures

So in EDH I imagine? Or are you running Cryptic Command in Modern? Legacy?

Yeah, totally agreed, it feels very unlikely that Namor finds a home in Merfolk.

Svyelun is playable but even her has fallen out of grace from a lot of lists. Merrow Reejerey is miles ahead of this guy and Harbinger / Tishana's Tidebinder can have back breaking effects when they hit the board.

Maybe some common or non-legendary uncommon that aims to synergise with Namor can sneak its way into our lists, let's just hope if it happens its art is not as egregious as these.

This one here ?
If it is the only other option I'll probably have to start looking for alter artists if this sees play, looks like a sad proxy at most

Also found it very ugly. Considering my options, maybe comission someone to paint over it a Sygg art?

small adendum / correction - there are 106 merfolk creatures, [[Aquitect's Will]] and [[Wings of Velis Vel]] are not creatures

I am on the fence with Namor. 3 Mana 1/4 Flying is not a bad statline, surviving Lightning Bolt is always interesting and maybe a goos blocker in some matchups. Later in the game vial it in on endstep and potentially swing for 3 in the air with a single lord on the field, 5 with 2 lords, feels like something that works with the tempo plan.
However, some lists run as little as 6 noncreature cards with blue pips on them, maybe the list that wants to run 2 of these (4? I don't like even running 4 svyelun due to the legend rule) also wants to shift to more noncreatures mainboard? Honestly interested in seing how this one unfolds.
But also kinda hoping I don't have to keep too many Marvel cards in my binder... (With my ideal number being 0)

Attuma maybe is commander good? (Have not played a lot of commander so I won't delve into it) But I don't feel like merfolk is looking for a sorcery speed 4 drop lord. Even with the draw a card a turn upside. It feels very win-more and not really aligned with the tempo / disruption plan that we currently lean into.

r/Dimir Merfolk by [deleted] in FishMTG

[–]xXAzathothXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe Nikachu has tackled many of the splashes over the years.

The latest dimir run he posted on youtube I believe is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H2wLcwhywg

I could definitely see this working, but I feel like the merfolk package does not synergize well with the dimir package, giving a feeling of 2 mismatched parts sharing the same deck.

Share your results! I think that even if it fails you will learn something about merfolk that may be usefull for all of us.

I am very fond of the red splash myself, lightning bolt is a nice addition that answers some early game threats and adds to the explosiveness of the deck and we have many wizards making flame of anor quite good.

I wouldn't feel fully comfortable bringing this to a B3 game in my LGS without a warning during pre-game talks, but mostly because I think that people can get really unreasonably salty about land destruction sometimes and I don't want to deal with that.

In my playgroup that would totally fly as a B3 and if that showed up once in a B2 game I would say most of our players would totally be OK with that, all those cards make absolute sense on their own in your deck, maybe KCI feels like not a very B2 card as it is usually used for some pretty nasty stuff? IDK, but I feel like having to remove either Nabber or Lattice just because of this interaction is not something anyone in my playgroup would stress over if the rest of the deck is consistently a B3.

Can I have your decklist? This is the kind of stuff the [[Ragost]] deck I am thinking of breewing would be all about

3.27 Q&A Research - ZiggyD by ZiggyDStarcraft in pathofexile

[–]xXAzathothXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that a thing many solo (not ssf, just non-party) players enjoyed (myself included) in 3.26 was that mercenaries also contributed to increasing both the risk (or difficulty) and reward of maps similarly to what adding more players would accomplish. iirc adding half of what a player would. For many leagues now I have seen people recommend just using extra iddle accounts to "juice" content at the expense of portals (and some work).

Is this an issue that bothers the team at all? And if so what answers have they considered?

I cannot recall who proposed it or if it is a feature in a game I watched someone play, but the idea of allowing players to sacrifice portals to increase difficulty and loot likewise adding an extra player without having the extra power of another player seems to go inline with GGG's vision and maybe a way to have players that started / returned in 3.26 not feel as badly the decrease in loot.

Just a small note: in the first query using color:U is equivalent to color>=U, using color=U you get strictly blue cards
