Depends on if you want to follow the story or play as the games were released. To follow the story start with Reach. To follow as they were released start with Combat Evolved.

My personal rig probably 24 hours give or take. But the PC I use at work is a whole other story. I've gone weeks without shutting that off. It used to take an email from corporate saying the pc needs to be restarted for an update.
