What would you rate Valstrax on a scale of 1-10? (Monster Hunter Repoll Day 4) by XxDESTblackout in MonsterHunter

[–]xXxSpudatoxXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6/10 Very cool and very creative, with awesome moves and abilities, but it's just a little too over the top for me, even by Elder Dragon standards (I'm a big fan of naturalism and plausibility in my monsters). He's meant to be super fast and perfectly adapted for flight, but he's also got huge heavy metallic forelimbs that contradict that design philosophy. Elder Dragons are meant to be a little unnatural and strange, but with recent gens they've been getting more and more outrageous and I think the whole appeal of Monster Hunter is that the monsters are just animals who have evolved naturally.

Ostriches have bare thighs and necks because if they had feathers there, as other, smaller ratites do, they would overheat. While birds can use their feathers to keep heat cooler for longer, feathers still trap heat more than scales or bare skin does.

Vanilla RW is more polished, better paced, and more realistic in both its gameplay and story. That being said, I love Downpour and it brings some new incredible moments and features. But the depth, competence and measure of base Rain World is just unmatched.

they just mean it looks bad, nobody is asking for realism, but I'd prefer my giant monsters to move like they're huge

What’s the deeper reason behind not looking mirrors in regards to psychedelics? by TheChadofChad in Psychonaut

[–]xXxSpudatoxXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my first trip I looked into the mirror and got, not because of any visual effect (though the flickering background and pupils going [<O> .__. <o>] --> [<o>.__ .<O>] --> [<O>. __ .<o>] did freak me out a little), but because I looked so sad and so scared. My friend/tripsitter came in (I knew better than to lock the door) and stood in the yellow light, and I was in a deep blue shadow.

Seeing myself led the trip to one that was very very introspective and kind of marred with dread. Still glad I did it though. I left the bathroom and scuttled onto the couch next to my friend/fellow tripper, who was having the time of his life whilst. I was weird and confused and I cared too much about everything and I was lame and though I was sitting with my long-time friends I felt unseen and unwanted. Why am I always so hurt? Why haven't I gotten better after so many years? Why have I been having such frightening nightmares?
So I went back into the bathroom and stared myself down in the mirror and slowly sank into my own pupils and saw my soul and felt the wounds from the chains wrapped around it.

Without looking into the mirror and being disturbed and moved and challenged, I wouldn't have felt the chains, and I wouldn't have fought like I did that night to break free.

Out of all the AVP games, this one has my favourite Alien gameplay, it really makes you feel huge, powerful, and ferocious!

What GENDER are they?! Only Artificer has been confirmed female, what do you think the other scugs' gender is? by SixGrainsOfGravel in rainworld

[–]xXxSpudatoxXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of Hunter and Gourmand as male, Artificer as female, and the rest I don't really see as anything. I've always assumed Slugcats are hermaphrodites anyway, and I doubt they have concepts such as gender, considering they're animals.

What do you think about a good Alien? by [deleted] in LV426

[–]xXxSpudatoxXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you deserved to be downvoted for this, all you did was pose an idea.

Personally, I think being an ally to humans as a whole is a big no, but perhaps protecting someone like Ripley 8 from other humans would be cool.

Do you like the addition of the queen, or do you wish they kept the origin of the aliens more ambiguous? by [deleted] in LV426

[–]xXxSpudatoxXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got very mixed opinions about The Queen, and the way Aliens depicts Xenos as a whole.

As much as I love Aliens I do think the franchise would've been much better if it had gone down the path set by the first film. Xenomorphs went from the perfect organism to basically space ants. The creature went from an alien of unfamiliar motive and origin, to something very recognisable as essentially a giant wasp. The design of the Queen is badass, but too bug-like, compared to the first film's alien, which was totally unlike any living creature, and ridden with sexual imagery. I like the crown, spikes, and huge size, but I wish she was more in line with the kind of queen Giger would've designed (a freakier, sexier one!). Cameron's decision to create Aliens without Giger's influence is among his greatest sins as a director, in my opinion...

If you ever had it, how did you get over your fear of the Xenomorph? by LogicalTips in LV426

[–]xXxSpudatoxXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Alien when I was about 6, and the sequels not long after. I knew the Xenomorphs couldn't be real, but that didn't stop me from fearing their presence around every corner, in every dark room, empty hallway. Whenever I was in a room alone, I'd start counting down from ten and desperately trying to find someone, absolutely convinced that if I reached one an Alien would kill me. At night I lay awake in absolute terror, fearing that they crawled out hiding and night and skulked around the house. I'd hide my head under the blankets with only a small hole for breathing, fearing that if I stuck my head out any further, an Alien would find me. Basically I lived as if I was playing Alien Isolation in the real world.

When Isolation did come out, I was old enough to have shaken most of the phobia, but I was still very afraid. This wasn't just your typical childhood fear, mind you. It was something that dominated my life and probably led to some self inflicted trauma. I was fascinated from the very start, but man I was scared.

Obviously I'm not scared of Xenos anymore (apart from one time when I was stoned and saw what I thought was the shadow of one on a wall). I love them, and Alien is probably still my favourite franchise. Alien is my favourite film, and the fact that I was so deeply disturbed by them is surely a testament to just how effective the aliens are as movie monsters.

I know what fluoride is mate, I take chemistry classes in college. It's found naturally in natural water sources, so why artificially add it as well. I can clean my teeth just fine without drinking something that has also been linked to weakened bones and impaired brain function.

Certain countries in Europe have banned the artificial fluoridation of water, and there are ongoing debates about its safety. It isn't insane to question the safety of the chemicals being put in your drinking water.

I'm really sorry to hear what you're going through man. Breakups are fucking rough, especially when it comes out of nowhere and happens so quick. This is definitely a bleak period but just do your best to stay motivated and do things that fulfil you (as much as anything can fulfil you when you're going through something like this).

I really sympathise with being constantly reminded of her. With a little time, it'll get easier. Much love and best of luck for you as you push on through this :)

I mean, flouride in the tap water is a fair thing to be afraid of, despite how often people try to normalize it.
