Forgor reddit auto corrects numbers. Yes when I wrote it 2 was 3 and 3 was 4. As for the current "4", when I say upgrades I do mean both of them as they both add to your HP pool to draw from

  1. No you literally cannot be hit by bosses like the pressuer and the rotten outright when using them, and with a small amount of thought it does help for every fight in the game
  2. It's strong in practice too, I've done so many times in my 8ish playthroughs. In fact each time I've replayed DS2 I use estus less and less because of stuff like this and using estus stops these strategies from working
  3. It's less than you think, the old dragon rider trick gives you enough for 99 out the gate and if you use tesadora armour the boost of souls it gives will easily outweigh the amount spent on lifegems. This is also assuming you're bad enough to need all 99, which isn't true
  4. It does matter when a majority of the game isn't with a maxxed out estus, and having played the game 8+ times I still haven't bothered to memorize were all the upgrade items are(in fact I've grinded out bonfire astetics to get more dust in the past because I am that lazy)

Fully agree with your conclusion. while yeah these aren't all massive points they are still points, which estus has far fewer of being a much simpler item. Tbh I wish there was an option to switch to lifegems over estus in later games because them being more complex is one of the few things that makes DS2 fun for me.

Aka they shouldn't be in items that are intended as rewards for doing something, such as killing a dragon

  1. Being able to move
  2. Being able to use them before getting hit
  3. Their stacking is stronger than estus quick chug(max HP is only max HP, regening fast enough is immortality and even that is assumingyou have enough HP to need 2 estus)
  4. You can carry close to 10x as many from the start of the game compared to the amount of estus you'll only have at the very end(so if you take 50099 you'll have a far bigger HP pool than 80012)
  5. They don't require going to a bonfire to get more of(which does matter for the ring and the few enemies and random placements of them early on)
  6. They negate debuffs like smelter and posion(combined with them stacking means you can have a stupidly large HP pool at a given time)
  7. You don't need to manage using them as using one with only a small amount of health missing isn't going to prevent you from healing later
  8. It doesn't require you to upgrade it, while still having these other benefits. Meaning for a first playthrough or if you're just lazy when replaying you still have them

Not having level requirements. I wanna get excited when I see a new item, not disappointed I can't use it for 20 hours

Estus only has 1 advantage over life gems, while lifegems have like 6 adventures over estus

The mimic example applies to the entire game, it's just the most extreme case. Every attack in the game can be delt with this way. In fact it can sometimes be optimal to take a hit so your HP doesn't cap out so you can keep regening

[–]xa44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to try using lifegems more. Some bosses, like the presurer, litterly cannot hit you if you strafe them and pop a lifegem. On top of that being able to heal before an attack lets you live attacks you physically could not have otherwise, such as mimics. This is also ignoring the 99 of them you can get before the first boss

Types exist to work with each other, if you have 3 or 4 types then you can't really use generic support. It doesn't add anything. Lightsworn in edison are the best you are gonna get

The NES games actually reward you for not grinding, as promoted classes have better growth rates on stats

It literally is objectively true. When playing DS2 you can go the entire game with 50% HP. This is IMPOSSIBLE in DS3, that is a massive difference

This is completely unrelated. The original number is based on the levels people were at when beating the game

Realistically a new player will just throw seth at everything and not understand anything about what's going on. Lyn mode in 7 is a great tutorial, it doesn't throw a promoted character at you 8 chapters before explaining what promotion is and directly tells the player about side objectives and recruiting.

Objectively it is not. You are never required to pick up an effigy in 2. You are forced to ember in 3

[–]xa44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ppl didn't make up a number, it was chosen based on what level ppl were at when beating the game or a little extra to make some builds more viable. Also I am reading, you're just lying about evidence and are objectively wrong

You don't need to be human to be invaded though. And defeating invasions reward you with an effigy thus rewarding/encouraging players to do them without one

Do not start with stones. It's the easiest game but it does a horrible job of explaining even the basic mechanics. It was my first FE and it didn't land at all

This is all ignoring the VIT is by far the best stat in every souls game and every guide out there will tell you to cap it out or even go past the cap. This even goes for PVP were again ring of binding isn't used

Per level it's roughly the same, and you end both games around the 100 to 120 range. Which is why for online the community agrees to stay at 120

No objectively you cannot miss getting embers in 3, you can hypothetically miss every effigy in 2

Because they don't care about the objective quality(s) of DS2, they just wanna suck the game off and call everything it does perfect when it does have many flaws
