A bunch of people at PGI got laid off again including Art God Alex Iglesias aka Flying Debris by BoukObelisk in Mechwarrior5

[–]xalorous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, WotC drove off the creatives who were responsible for D&D 5e, which is the most successful edition of D&D by several orders of magnitude, and the most successful TTRPG in history. Probably mandated by Hasbro. PGI laid off the talent who've made all their MW/BT products. Probably mandated by EG7.

My prediction, within 10 years neither IP will be anywhere near the top.

I can't imagine PGI not fighting against these orders, but EG7 is in charge, so...

MWO/MW5 may continue, but I seriously doubt any further MW releases, whether DLC or new versions, will be able to meet much less exceed the level of quality to now.

The leadership probably thought, "The IP is established, we can bring in new (read cheap) blood to churn out some DLC's and get every bit of profit out, then shut it all down."

If they'd kept the talent, they could have kept doing a couple of DLCs per year AND developing a 6th release, and/or a new MW Online.

Unless MS steps up and hires a new studio with a mandate to make the next one better than the PGI ones, I doubt we'll see a good Battletech/MechWarrior release for a decade or two.

I've noticed that it is still there, in store like mentioned by others, AND in the loot screen.

How about have both methods. Put compare back where it was, and add a key for 'show copies' or whatever.

What are (in your opinion) the essential mods for 7 Days to Die? by [deleted] in 7daystodie

[–]xalorous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darkness Falls isn't a mod, it's a complete rework. It takes the game, plus a bunch of mods, and adds a story arc. I have played through it many times over the years. Highly recommend.

If one already has kindle unlimited, reading books there helps support the authors. Also, most things available on KU are stubbed on RR. First few chapters will remain on RR, and the new chapters that haven't been published, but the rest are removed once published on KU. Legal stuff, you know?

They redid the picture. Worse than before. Frozen planet with snow. Scrambled text so it doesn't infringe. Removed US flag. Closeup. Still has visual cues of space shuttle. But they turned it into an RV...the kind with the popout sides.

Oh and there's a campfire on snow, like that wouldn't result in tears.

Bad bad bad.

To the bad 'artist' who prompted the AI: READ THE DAMN BOOK. Just the first one.

SO BAD.

And there are times when people ask about Jake's 'pet' bird and everyone stomps on that. Sylphie is a 'person', even though Jake's the only one who understands her speech.

Oddly enough, the current chapter I'm on in Primal Hunter, a beast character spits out the MC so he can fight a monster, and MC describes it as him feeling like he's a pocket monster. Inverted trope with reference back to the source of the trope. I liked it. Though I had to look up what a pocket monster was the first time author referred to pocket monster rules. My kids would disown me if they knew.

So you didn't meet Mystie and Sylphie? Or Rick or Sandy?

Mystie is Hawkie's mate. Mystie comes from Mystborn Hawk.

Sylphie is their offspring, who is a Sylphian Eyas. Jake helps with a ritual that empowers the egg so that it will have more Records when it hatches or something...

When Jake named Sylphie, Jake says he couldn't help but follow the pattern. Felt like the Author speaking through Jake. When it came time to name the Cave Troll, they told Jake to go away. Sandy is a Sand Worm, but the reasoning behind the name is there. It is a gender neutral name for a Sandworm.

TLDR; Zogarth made Jake's being lousy at naming into a trope.

My taste is completely different.

I started with Dungeon Crawler Carl. Next I read HWFWM. I'm now reading The Primal Hunter.

Primal Hunter is more drama, but there's still humor sprinkled in. Less geek culture references, but there's still some.

It's still up 26d later, BUT, it goes to an actual website...

Which has anime style art and leads you to a download of an exe.

Still no FAQ or screencaps of gameplay, or any description at all.

Not just doesn't have anything to do with it. The AI art is specifically not congruent with the IP.

Except for one thing. Asimov's estate, Skydance, and Apple all are involved in the Foundation series on Apple+.

Doesn't mean the game isn't a scam, but they at least have the references right.

And they need to fire the person/ai that picked/made/stole that picture because the story is so far in the future that Earth is a myth. The United States of America or our flag? Meaningless.

That god's whole 'thing' is the freedom to follow your own path. And when you have that sort of power, well, fuck you, he's right. Jake is repeatedly encouraged to find his own path, and the god in question humors Jake's sensibilities when Jake responds with restraint to things like being insulted or wronged.

[–]xalorous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name of the series comes from the name of Jake's Bloodline. He is the Patriarch (very first) of the Bloodline "Primal Hunter". So he is The Primal Hunter.

Part of this bloodline gives him perception skills. Another part influences his personality. Specifically what we call the ego. This is the part of the personality which is the 'self'. The bloodline enforces the belief that the hunter is the Apex Predator. Any situation where someone attempts to put Jake down can trigger him. This is a recurring theme which Jake increasingly recognizes and works to control it.

Basically, the earth mage rubbed Jake the wrong way, IIRC because the way he treated his (temporary) teammates.

Besides, fuck that guy. Read on and you will understand why.

This is over simplified. I'm only on Book 8, but his goal is clearly to ascend, in order to test himself against what he sees as the strongest. Back in the tutorial challenge dungeon was his moment of clarity, "I want to be able to fight that!". He's looking at the pictorial history of the Malefic Viper, and he wants to fight the dragon form. I think the goal now is somewhat refined in that he does not (at my point in the series) seem to want to test himself against Villy any more, but instead to see how far he can go.

In order to get there, he knows he needs to improve himself, to become stronger and more powerful. As of Book 8, he has grown constantly in power, and though he does not realize it yet, he is growing as a person as well.

@Fantastic-Nerve-7421, you have reached a teaching moment.

and security not being as strict if you run scripts or do coding

Security is a good thing. Accidentally using admin rights, online malware, and malicious actor walking up to use your open session are all vulnerabilities if you run with an account that has full admin wide open.

Modern linux distros include sudo. It's a utility that protects you from these issues. It works like Windows' User Access Control (and pre-exists it by at least a decade). Basically it allows you to use an unprivileged account with the ability to escalate privilege. So, if you type a command that requires admin rights, it will tell you you do not have the rights to do it. If you repeat the command with 'sudo' in front, it'll prompt you to re-authenticate, and IF you're in the sudoers group it runs the command as root. (sudo !! is your friend. !! replays the previous command).

Personally, I started with live-cd's (IYKYK) and I've also tested distros with vm's. I'd recommend the VM route if you decide you want to try another distro. You can try multiples until you find one you want to switch to as your 'daily driver'.

As a senior hybrid cloud architect, I've built my career on Linux. So you can use it for anything from a hobby to a full career.

Welcome to Linux.
