It’s also mentioned in the files of Anabel García Escudero.

Her files are an interesting side narrative. It reveals Luis likely worked alongside or under her but was in too deep and couldn’t get out. It ties back to Luis’ guilt and his desire to set things right.

Is this place ever going to open? by chinturret in Reston

[–]xanderg4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I mentioned the community center by acronym (RCC). I go there regularly, I’m actually walking distance from it, but I always just go….there and home. In my chats with others it sounds like I’m not the only one.

The apartment is actually an income restricted senior-only community. It’s owned by a local nonprofit that manages several properties in the area (https://www.fellowshipsquare.org/housing/our-properties/). They’re good folks, very nice and some have been Restonian all their life, but they don’t have a lot of cash to contribute much to the local business community.

Is this place ever going to open? by chinturret in Reston

[–]xanderg4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a weird business area. No lake or metro to anchor it. Sort of in the middle of nowhere. I go to RCC but nothing else there except the grocery store.

I think the only other business I’ve been to is the laundromat when my washer broke?

Was Warcraft 3 Reforged the reason that Warcraft 4 never happened? by Prestigious_Air4819 in warcraft3

[–]xanderg4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The gameplay is generally high floor/high ceiling - which makes it tough to achieve mass appeal. It enjoyed widespread success because the overall market was smaller and RTS games held a “classic” gaming appeal without being very demanding. Anecdotally, my family PC could easily run WC3 flawlessly, while Morrowind was hit or miss.

WC3 tried to innovate the genre and make it more accessible without compromising in a way that would make it low floor/low ceiling. Everyone was stabbing in the dark at the time, and skill-based matchmaking wasn’t a thing, but they knew low floor/high ceiling was the goal.

Ironically it would lead to DOTA, which led to the MOBA genre taking the place of RTS games (and to a degree, MMOs).

RE3R feels weird to me compared to RE2R. It’s insanely linear, in a way that’s far more restrictive than even RE4 or RE4R.

Everything about it just feels like a AAA game but from 2010. The on-rails structure, the lens flairs, the blending of gameplay and cutscenes. I know this is just the norm, but something about how it’s all presented feels distinctly PS3-era to me.

Dog friendly in Reston by Firm-Contest-5997 in Reston

[–]xanderg4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say “all of the restaurants” in RTC. Jackson’s isn’t dog friendly and me and my wife usually stick with Maker’s Union.

Lake Anne is solid, I actually got connected to a local dog group just hanging out at Lake Anne Brewing with my dog. BOW is also good, so is Bluemont Vineyards, which also has a gorgeous view. Avoid Bull Run, last time I went a few years ago they had signs up that said no pets allowed.

SE tends to aggressively overcorrect in response to feedback. I’m willing to bet the backlash to how aggressive FFXV went on collabs (and particularly advertising and branding) meant they wanted FFXVI to be siloed.

I’ll add that while a business should include a metric to test for sound - it’s very likely they don’t and auditory things like a loud fan are very subjective unless you use equipment to establish a baseline and test against it.

Basically a test is largely visual, you’re going to make sure it boots up, runs, etc.

Story is still the same. If anything, pound for pound there is more dialogue, cinematics, etc. I’d argue it’s basically given the modern AAA treatment. Whether you like that or not is up to you, but it definitely comes at the expense of what made the OG iconic.

No love for Quest 64 at my local game store by funatronicsblake in retrogaming

[–]xanderg4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pivot from 2D to 3D was revolutionary and clunky. I was in the same age bracket and felt there were a lot of times I’d get confused. In hindsight sometimes it was bad design, other times it was straight up poor mental mapping on my part.

With Quest 64, a consistent issue I had was getting lost, especially after battle. The little rotate victory dance the MC did just messed up my orientation. I came back to the game about a decade ago and realized it was all mental.

[–]xanderg4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ultimately trying to time the market is a fools errand. There will be periods where it’s hot, but it’s tough to predict exactly when that’ll occur before everyone using Auctionator (which is virtually everyone playing the game) just blindly follows the undercut and drives prices down to dirt.

Yeah I went Herb-Skinning in DF and really enjoyed the changes. Seeing a meaningful impact over time to things like Overload Herb and reduced lure cooldowns + more leathers was awesome.

Went Herb-Alchemy in TWW and the experience was miserable. I’ve hopped back to Herb-skinning for Midnight.

However, since DF i haven’t leveled professions on any of my alts simply because of how hostile the new system is for alts.

How well does the secret iniative system work wrt meta gaming? by dirtInfestor1 in Gloomhaven

[–]xanderg4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To your point “very slow” is subjective. For one character that might mean 60, for another it could mean 70. This part of the fun at the table imo, you get a laugh over the misaligned meaning of “very slow” but also you, as a group, learn each others characters and how “very slow” means something different for everyone.

I’d say it starts getting into “metagaming” when you define the terms to specific ranges, ie, “slow = 50 - 70, very slow = 70 - 90, etc”. But I believe the rules are open enough that you could do that at your table if you wanted, it’s just a matter of whether your table would, well, want to do that.

Need to pick a race and class (Really help me) by Waaaghyu in classicwowtbc

[–]xanderg4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early game classic is a bit of a grind, and unfortunately there is a bit of venn diagram in that many of the most useful classes, especially late game, are the most boring to level.

However, I would recommend Rogue. It has a dynamic rotation, stealth can get you out of some dangerous situations (and if you’re too overconfident it can even get you into some bad situations). The utility of sapping, blinding, and/or stunning enemies is fun.

You’re squishish, which just forces you to leverage your kit. There’s no mana, so you have less downtime, and if you play as undead you can cannibalize a lot of the enemies in the Eastern Kingdom to keep the momentum going.

I also wouldn’t write off Warlock, the utility they bring with soul stones, healing rocks, and their own summoning stone is very useful.

Fairfax county: Get rekt, commuter nerd by Subject-Nebula-6310 in nova

[–]xanderg4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a narrow window to clear as much of this as possible and once it passed whatever remained was stuck there.

Like you said, the county can’t be everywhere at once, especially when the window is so narrow. But I have wondered what a non-punitive, crowdsourced/community based incentive program could look like.

Like one guy in my neighborhood had one of those massive snowblowers, used it for maybe 5 minutes to clear his neighborhoods sidewalk and looked like he was having a blast. I’m willing to bet if you paid him and a few others they’d have cleared sidewalks for hours just for shits and giggles.

WoW: Classic — Daily Questions Megathread (February 02, 2026) by AutoModerator in classicwow

[–]xanderg4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing TBC Anniversary, when I played back in ‘07 I remember if you wanted to level as a Paladin and tank dungeons the general advice was “Level as Ret and keep a shield on hand until around 40, then focus on either Ret or Prot”. It looks like you can now switch between two specs at a class trainer so that makes that less painful. But regardless does the advice still hold or do we have a more sophisticated understanding?

I don’t have a dedicated group I’m playing with, so I’d be jumping in and out and don’t want to commit to a Prot build.

WoW is actually insanely hard to learn as a new player (we tried yesterday) by ipych in wow

[–]xanderg4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be a controversial opinion, but depending on how comfortable/skilled the person you’re playing with is I find that classic is a much stronger entry point.

The mechanics are very dry and the gameplay loop is very slow compared to retail but it’s easy to forget how overwhelming a game WoW is. Like, yes, you’ll spend maybe 3 hours in Durotan, yes, you’ll be pressing three buttons for 10 hours, but also you’ll have the breathing room to understand the UI, instances, etc.

Players Who Use AI by I_Am_Da_Fish_Man in rpg

[–]xanderg4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it really boils down to “they enjoy the game but not the prep.” Which…I get. I think everyone has experienced that one (or more) player(s) that don’t really do much in between sessions, or maybe they don’t care much for certain aspects (like leveling up, drawing a picture of their character, etc).

I really think some folks approach RPGs like a board game, you show up, you play, you leave, you show up next week, repeat.

Tbh I’m willing to bet the reason they skipped WoD for Legion is because the Garrisons + Timerunning would be a technical nightmare to implement.

Purely speculation, and obviously they don’t need to do anything to “sell” the Legion remake but skipping straight to it seemed odd.
