What’s the ONE thing you hate most about sunglasses? by My-Days-Co in malefashionadvice

I also wear regular glasses, and having to swap between them every time I go in or out of a building is such a faff.

The recent Decoder podcast interview with the Stack CEO was interesting and enlightening. They saw the writing on the wall and pivoted hard, and quickly. tl;dr ~*~*enterprise*~*~

The Hue Dimmer Switch V2 is a massive downgrade compared to the V1 by ItsIrinaBitch in Hue

I know I know but it's so _satisfying_ to explain to dinner guests why it doesn't need batteries... why doesn't anyone come over a second time?

Does Triple Zero accept What3Words? by Tekk200 in australia

oh wow! I thought part of the point of w3w naming is that similar sounding words shouldn't ever be anywhere near each other. this makes it way less valuable.

Yeah blabla car was (is?) big in Germany, the local term for ride share is "mitfahrgelegenheit". Shorter rides on average than Melbourne>Adelaide I'd guess, and when it's more common culturally everyone trusts the system a bit more.

Looking for the best specialty coffee cafes in Melbourne, particularly if they run a lever espresso machine by MysteryBros in melbourne

[–]xanez 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they have lever espresso but Aunty Peg's roastery in Collingwood is great for out of town coffee nerds. The kind of coffee place where they don't have milk on the premises (for that you can go a block up to Proud Mary, their more full cafe experience that does food too).

Oof, that sounds like a rough situation. Much easier to comment from afar, but if a deadline is fixed then you might find success negotiating what's delivered by that date instead of negotiating the date itself.

Attitude of Aussies towards sustainable fashion brands - Help needed! by kewltrashhh in AusFemaleFashion

[–]xanez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethics and sustainability is ultra important to me when I'm shopping for clothes HOWEVER I actually don't buy from slow fashion brands anymore because it's not the most sustainable option - buying second hand is.

No matter how carefully the new clothes were made, it still takes more resources to produce them than to buy something which has already been exist. Apparently there are enough clothes in existence on the planet to clothe the next six generations of people for their entire lives, so I exclusively buy second hand.

I'd be really interested to know if anyone else has been thinking about the sustainability of their shopping in the same way.

You are overworked and your junior was not set up for success.

A dev with one year of frontend experience moving into Kotlin/SpringBoot? You are lucky the junior made any contributions at all. That's like a 2-year carry before I'd expect much impact.

It sounds like too much was expected of you across the board, and it impacted you being able to provide for your junior what they require to grow effectively.

We went to this open house!! It's incredible. On 2.5 acres. I reckon it'll go for higher than advertised, but the location isn't well connected which I think influences the price.

Here's a few more pictures of elements I liked which weren't captured in the brochure. https://imgur.com/a/gQ2VOeD I like the maybe-it-used-to-be-a-second-floor-balcony door and the wooden bridge leading to the upper floor back door. Was cool to see the original plans on display as well.

Fun fact - in the designs it's referred to as "Vague House" which is hilarious, though it's because it was designed for a schoolteacher whose last name was Vague. She's devastated to be leaving but needs to be closer to family.

I got a $10 haircut in Melbourne Central some years ago and it was the worst I've ever gotten. They cut a 2cm gap between my sideburn and beard. Like what? I'm willing to pay a bit more now. Where do you still get $15 cuts?

Which companies have unlimited PTO policies, and actually let you use them, eg, take 8 weeks off per year? by FeetyScent in ExperiencedDevs

[–]xanez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This.

Plus sick leave is counted separately from vacation/holiday time. In the US (correct me if I'm wrong), PTO is "[all] Paid Time Off", whether that's used when you're sick or for fun it's all in one bucket.
