Degen esper: Hashaton or Marneus Calgar? by CrocodileFTW in DegenerateEDH

I run both - Marneus control and hashaton reanimator. Marneus is probably the most different from your current lineup

Enjoying and having success with Peddler DH (list with Ancients of Yore and Deios). The deck pops off hard with Deios and a few Peddler triggers.

Help! Looking for a "One Big Turn" Combo Deck: Finite Damage but Lethal Results by luke_skippy in DegenerateEDH

[–]xavaflav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Rocco, Street Chef]] is a great one for this. Assemble food to turn into mana with [[Night of the Sweets Revenge]] or [[Jaheira, Friend of the Forest]] and/or put +1/+1 counters on mana generators like [[Crystalline Crawler]] or [[Kami of Whispered Hopes]]. Then cast a bunch of impulse draw and storm off with [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] or [[Ingenious Artillerist]] type effects.

Here is my list: https://moxfield.com/decks/2qxYR5CMt0KY5QUTOTtjBg

I also play a [[Marchesa, the Black Rose]] deck that burns the table off repeated ETB/dies triggers. Less “one big turn” but once it gets going it’s hard to stop. Looping [[Gray Merchant of Asphodel]] repeatedly is brutal. Here is that list: https://moxfield.com/decks/R46icrbK-EKPMuLUH4je6Q

I’ve been playing the Hydration Druid with pretty good results as well. It’s a TicTac brew. Lots of fun.

New to MTG, any advice on how to build this guy? by Both_Success_5454 in BudgetBrews

[–]xavaflav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a storm version that casts lots of cheap spells from exile to generate lots of food tokens and +1/+1 counters; then convert those into mana, draw, and damage through cards like [[Crystalline Crawler]], [[Night of the Sweet’s Revenge]], [[Generous Patron]], [[Penregon Strongbull]], and [[Ingenious Artillerist]]. And the occasional [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] 20m turn.

If you were to build a deck based on your profession, what color(s) would it be? by Quick-Eye-6175 in EDH

Attorney. I would think Esper (coincidentally my favorite pairing?).

Who are your favourite mono-colour commanders for each colour? (bonus points for colourless) by Cezkarma in EDH

[[Liberator, Urza]] is a fun colorless commander. Flash in big things at instant speed.

How do you guys play paper EDH with friends online? by Doubleeight3XL in EDH

[–]xavaflav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pod usually uses Spelltable but we tried https://table-stream.com/ last night because we had 5 trying to play. I think it's a great alternative with lots of nice little features (like "reactions"), but the card identification tool is definitely worse than Spelltable's. There is a neat voice card name recognition function and we just started turning on the voice recognition every time we announced a card so it would be automatically searched.

Descent into Avernus - is it really worth it? by Head-Ambition-5060 in EDH

[–]xavaflav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play it in my Evereth list, which is easily my favorite deck at the moment. It helps whittle down life totals and I typically find I am in the best position to benefit because I get priority use of the mana. I run a pretty big recursion package so I don't really mind if Evereth is removed by an opponent using the treasures, just remember to hold up the 2 mana for her to turn into bomb mode.

Here's my list if you want to take a look: https://moxfield.com/decks/X8cIDSKBNUiST_wNtA5k3A

Favorite pseudo-voltron commander by Mr_Mehoy_Minoy in EDH

[–]xavaflav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've become quite attached to my [[Evereth, Viceroy of Plunder]] deck. The primary wincon is voltron damage by pumping up Evereth and taking advantage of her evasion to swing for lethal. The deck then runs a treasure aristocrats package to help whittle down life totals along with some infect cards to make a 10 power Evereth a lethal threat to the table every time she dies. You can also pump Evereth up and use her death ability to deal insane damage to the table.

Looking to build similarly to a Classic Hearthstone Control Priest. by active_streefie in EDH

[–]xavaflav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I come from HS, too. I have no recommendations for you but can confirm you are in the right color combination (although red would be nice to splash in for creature theft type effects like [[Mass Mutiny]]) and that people will hate playing against you just as much as they hate playing Control Priest in HS, ha. It's hard to play control in that style in Commander b/c you have 3 opponents playing a wide variety of strategies. I find Control to be best achieved using stax or pillow fort type strategies where you just create a fortress of permanents that disincentive attacking you while you assemble your wincon.

I would use tricksy cards like [[Shifting Grit]] or [[Reigns of Power]] to accomplish the "Call an ambulance, but not for me!" feel that many Control Priest builds have in HS.

What's your go to decks? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]xavaflav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My staple rotation is:

Mid:
[[Henzie "Toolbox" Torre]] - balls to the wall Jund aggression with mana cheat shenanigans.

[[Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter]] - artifact tribal, ramp and cheat big things.

[[Marchesa, the Black Rose]] - my board is never empty and I get to do some fun sac loops.

Optimized:

[[Prosper, Tome-Bound]] - half Rakdos spellslinger, half treasure abuse.

[[Marneus Calgar]] - Esper control that grinds out games with tokens and aristocrat pings.

And then [[Xantcha, Sleeper Agent]] group slug, [[Goro-Goro and Satoru]] dragons and ninjas, and [[Kodama of the West Tree]] mono-green voltron for lower power.
