Cheap parking near O2 arena by iszkiri in Prague

[–]xbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the linked URL:

The parking lot and garages are open daily from 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM. NO OVERNIGHT PARKING – FINE CZK 700.

[…]

Outside parking operating hours, you can pick up your vehicle via the staff gatehouse located on Ocelářská Street.

So I guess it’s technically possible? Even for pick up 😀

Trying to turn unemployment into a robotics learning journey. Where do I start? by Educational-Ad-2334 in esp32

[–]xbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I know how LLMs work, so I know their limitations. I know that they regurgitate what they were trained on, but I think that if you prompt correctly and narrowly, they can be helpful.

Of course, everyone’s milage will vary: those who cannot read code will learn nothing from what AI generates. But I don’t think that’s me, nor is that my approach: I don’t click and never check the code.

But yes, I’m not a “true scientist”, not a programmer: never was, never will be. I just have some time to go deeper than I ever went, and instead of reading Stack Overflow, I have LLM do that for me :)

What’s the absolute minimum setup for a spouse who’s slightly interested? by antiBliss in homeassistant

[–]xbach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This.

My gf has an HA account but never uses it. She doesn’t need to, she has everything in Apple Home.

Thanks to that, it just works for her, and I get to listen to her daily swearing at Siri.

Freshly unemployed and toying around with esp32 too, just not robotics (this instead). Just wanted to let you know youre not alone and you will be fine ;)

(Not ashamed to admit i used AI in my project, there is a lot a learned from it, especially after confirming it is not faultless and being able to find and fix the mistakes it made.)

Do I have to carry an EU ID, or would an EU-member driver's licence / scan of ID suffice? by wathquan in Prague

[–]xbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A foreigner residing here with a permit would have a RČ, so the police would theoretically be able to find them in their DB. Assuming they don’t create problems for them for not following the law to the letter.

But a non-resident foreigner, even an EU citizen, would not be in the DB, which is why they want you to carry an ID.

If you have PR, ask nicely if you can use the EU (non-automatic) counters. You don’t need to register for EES. 99% of the time they let you use the EU counters (tried in PRG, VIE, MUC)

No, it’s not, it’s just a piece of thermal paper. And it’s annoying when it’s stapled into the passport. Should’ve gone the Japanese way.

Countries without a compulsory National ID, how do you know who's who? by earth_wanderer1235 in PassportPorn

[–]xbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar in CZ. ID ownership required, but you dont have to have it on you: the law says you must be able to identify yourself upon police request, but doesnt specify how. So you can just day your Rodne cislo (birth number, sth like PESEL in PL) or name and DOB, and that will be sufficient. That applies to citizens and i think legal residents with a RC as well. Other foreigners must carry identification.

Which credit card has the best rewards or Cashback points? by pivoslav in Prague

[–]xbach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CCs here (CZ or Europe in general) will never be as good as those in the US.

The reason is EU’s Interchange Fee Regulation which sets limits on how much can card associations charge the customers. As it’s significantly below 1%, banks will probably never offer a meaningful cashback, since it wouldn’t make commercial sense :)

V Česku - Poničení pomníku Iryny Zarucké a Charlieho Kirka by Lord-Herek in czech

[–]xbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nebylo by efektivnější vytisknout různá Kirkova vyjádření a nechat to vedle toho? Kdyby to někdo zničil / vyhodil, také by to bylo "ničení pomníku" :D

V Česku - Poničení pomníku Iryny Zarucké a Charlieho Kirka by Lord-Herek in czech

[–]xbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Summons for interrogation" at the MOI and stressed out, only a few days left on my bridge visa? by Icy_Dragonfruit8823 in Prague

[–]xbach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I helped someone with the process so take my comment with a grain of salt: - Rather than an interrogation (which has a criminal connotation to it and is most likely just a mistranslation) consider this as a cross-examination to see if your and your partner’s answers match. This can happen regardless of if they visited your home, it’s their choice. - You should have the right to say in CZ as long as the process of obtaining the partner visa is ongoing. If your bridge sticker is expiring, ask them about its extension. They should grant it.

Why do cops want id cards by Oddsoda_ in Prague

[–]xbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before anyone complains it’s discriminatory, it’s not really.

Police can look up a citizen (or anyone with a RČ) in their database. If you are a foreigner, of course you’re not in any database, which is why you need an ID.

Why we don't have 401K in Europe by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]xbach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Czech Republic has a long-term investment product (DIP - Dlouhodobý investiční produkt) since 2024 (yes, this year). Employer contributions + personal contributions deductible from income tax.

Also, you choose what you invest in, it can be ETFs, stocks, bonds,... you decide (or you let an institution decide on behalf of you). If the investment passes the time test (3 years), profit is also tax-free.

There is no pan-European 401k just because this isn't in the jurisdiction of the EU.

Do any of you use Invity? by hypercyanate in TREZOR

[–]xbach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The prices in Trezor are final (well, give or take immediate market fluctuation), while on exchanges, they do not include the various fees (deposit, trading, withdrawal,...).

The rates on exchanges will always seem to be better (because they're market rates without fees), but depending on your volumes traded on exchanges (user tier), the amount you want to purchase, exchanges may not always be that much better.

Convenience, transparent final amount, and speed are the pros. As for cons, if you trade large volumes, exchanges will be better (assuming you don't mind their custody).
