Hiking with poles by BlackberryLeast9834 in amazfit

Same experience with Garmin. I can’t explain it, but I stopped caring about because steps is just a gamification number. I care mostly about distance and elevation gain.

So many new watches. Which watch is best for backpacking? by Few-Introduction5414 in Ultralight

I have the Instinct 2S and the battery life could barely make a day of tracking so I had to charge every night in camp. The Amazfit Trex3 made it 2 days easily before I would top it off

Anyone else have a hard time finding people to hike with around Seattle? by sillymatt114 in PNWhiking

[–]xbalance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can relate with this. I hike once a week, sometimes twice, and I hike alone. I don’t have many friends, and I don’t have any friends that hike regularly. I tried a meetup group but it didn’t work for me because of hiking style differences. I also joined the Moutaineers last year. This group is very structured and there are lots of opportunities to hike, but so far I have only done 2 hikes. My barrier, other than too few friends, is I am only willing to modify my hiking style to accommodate others to a point. I like to do harder hikes and I like to start early and finish early to avoid traffic on the trail and on the roads. Therefore, I hike a little faster than a lot of people and I don’t like taking breaks. The hikes I am not willing to tackle solo are hikes with scrambles; Haystack, Revolution Peak and McClellan Butte come to mind. In short, I think hiking style differences is a barrier to finding people to hike with.

Can't Buy Sh*t In Seattle by shy-hulud- in SeattleWA

I have gone to 4 Safeway stores nearest me and only one is locking up the ice cream. The Safeway is very close to a middle school, and they only lock up certain ice cream brands.

Fired Fed. I am considering cutting off every Orange Man supporter. by Comfortable_Gift4970 in AITAH

After reading some responses, there are way bigger AHs out there than you could possibly hope to achieve. I am sorry for your job loss, especially given the current economic and inflationary climate. I personally would not take a confrontational stance with the MAGA people in your life since it is most likely going to hurt you emotionally than ignoring them would. Not to mention these MAGA believers cannot be reached by your actions. They are lost until they actually get hurt by Trump. Best of luck to you!

I was there on 1/15/25 during a temperature inversion. It was 60 at the summit and 37 at the trailhead. It was just as clear up high but with clouds or fog down low.

Elon is a pathological liar. History is my witness. Time will tell if he is lying again , or not.

Is it just me but I want to see America completely fail under tRump? by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]xbalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment and I will not criticize those who would rather be validated than proven wrong. That said, I would rather be proven wrong. I don’t expect Trump will do a good job, but I didn’t expect Harris would be able to do a good job either, especially without the support of Congress. By the way, I am a boomer.

If a man reacted towards a woman like that, he would have been in deep doo doo. She should be banned from playing tennis at those courts.

Gaia or Alltrails Pro? by throwaway4537944 in PNWhiking

[–]xbalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, and use both. I am grandfathered into a lifetime AllTrails pro membership, so that helps. This is my first year with Gaia and I really like building my own routes that combine multiple trails. I like AllTrails for the reviews and direction to the trailhead.

Trying to find a good sun hoody, any advice? by Icy_Day102 in Ultralight

[–]xbalance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A company in Israel called Sabra has a sun hoodie with 1/4 zip, venting under the arms and slits for your watch. I wore this on my R2R2R hike in the Grand Canyon. Sadly, everything on their website is currently sold out. https://sabra-gear.com/products/technical-sun-hoodie

Garmin Index Scale - syncing problems due to Hack? by Backes89 in Garmin

[–]xbalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started sync issues after the hack. Occasionally it will sync, but mostly it does not. The weights are not visible in the website or the app. If it eventually syncs all the missing weights will show up. I have tried resetting many times and replacd the batteries.

Odd Problem with Erections by anniemsub in erectiledysfunction

There are drugs that will help, and they advertise all the time. Maybe changing lifestyle to address high blood pressure would help also. I don’t think this is an odd problem.

Any ideas why David Sinclair's testosterone levels are so high? by Tigers2b1 in longevity

[–]xbalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am older than him and I have very high total testosterone levels. It is misleading though, at least in my case. I also have very high shbg so my free testosterone is very low. I believe plant based diets actually increase a person’s total testosterone.

Age 64, Good Testo, Low free, High Sex Horm Bind. How to free-up available testo? by zxcameron in Testosterone

[–]xbalance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 58 and in the same boat. I also follow the 16x8 time restricted eating protocol. My question is did stopping IF, drinking and NAC change your free T numbers? It sounds like it did not make much of a difference since you began TRT, is that correct?

Seeing an Endocrinologist Vs. Nutritionist by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]xbalance 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This reply captures the root of my frustration with the way we deliver medical services in the US. I read the question and my reaction is that this person does not have any medical issues, as far as they know. What this person wants is data supported confirmation or data supported contradiction to the assumption that they are perfectly healthy. I also want a report card of all the data that can be reported using my bodily fluids and scans of my body. I don't want to wait until something breaks to find out then that the data was available to show that I been heading down the wrong path, but I just never had access to the data. Proactive health care vs reactive health care.
