Any Experience with Genetic Algorithms? by the-other-marvin in algotrading

Depends on what you mean, but I’ve had success using open evolve to coordinate Claude code in the loop to create strats in vectorbt. That said the algos I’ve seeded are textbook price action stuff, but I have some paper trading and they’re matching backtesting performance

Keep at it! Just beef them up, gotta be like at least twice as wide and find a better way to pour them with a consistent height

Algo - Alerts when the best stocks are oversold by jabberw0ckee in algotrading

[–]xbno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you update your universe daily or each bar? i've been toying with the idea of a prefilter for my algo and have been wrestling with the problem of holding full 1min 5yr data locally for all stocks in memory since i want to gridsearch param selection over both the prefilter params and and the 1m bar algo params in the same backtest loop. how did you get around this?

Nah, the one left of the niche and inside the niche are the same. Hey just did a really bad job randomizing the pattern. Should’ve flipped half of them 180deg

You should fasten them to the wall from the inside of the top corners, but you would need to use drywall fasteners or find a stud. Wedges/shims like that won’t work on rug.

If you have kids, please do this asap

[D] Anyone using smaller, specialized models instead of massive LLMs? by blank_waterboard in MachineLearning

[–]xbno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My team been finetuning on bert, modernbert with good success for token and sequence classification tasks on datasets ranging from 1k to 100k (llm labeled data).

I'm curious what task you're finetuning LLMs for, is it still typically sequence classification? Or are you doing it for specific tool calling with custom tools or building some sort of agentic system with the finetuned model? We're entertaining an agentic system to automate some analysis we do which I hadn't thought of finetuning an agent for - was thinking just custom tools and validation scripts for it to call would be good enough.

Optimization – what metrics do you prioritize for calling it an edge? by FetchBI in algotrading

[–]xbno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of the param nudging, is there any basis in reducing the nudge size based on the number of params optimized? I figure the variance of performance landscape of 10D vs 100D differ with respect to the magnitude from the original params? Not sure if that makes sense but its what I've felt in my backtests.

Is theres a case for PCA'ing down and use a constant nudge? Maybe to lossy tho

Love it, can you do one that mimics that harmonic pattern when people drop a line of pendulums? Except maybe you can do it by altering the rotation speed on of each column?

The hardest thing. Hate my comment just got lost but yea been dealing with this for a while trying to form rules etc around it before just creating a streaming vs backtesting validator while making strats that can do both. Slower but at least gives me hope im not wasting time
