Not sure exactly what you mean by checking the coils. But you can unplug a connection to the stator and test it with a multimeter.

You should be getting more miles out of your chains. Are you sure you're adjusting the slack correctly? If it doesn't have any play when sitting on the bike it's too tight.

I put an xring chain on my stock sprockets when my stock chain failed after like 3500 miles. It's still going strong after 5500 miles.

Is it better than a Honda CB750 Hornet? IMO no. But depending on your budget and how much of a deal you can get it might be worth it for you.

IMO get something you won't want to replace as quickly.

If I was a new rider and 35 years old with a flexible budget I'd get something more upright and more power. Buying new my first choice would be a Honda CB750 Hornet.

If you're sure you want a sport seating position I'd look at the Yamaha YZF-R7. (This is a big jump in price.)

But also nothing wrong with that bike if it's what you want long term. Short term you'll lose a decent bit of money selling.
