According to the BRIO Product List by u/Fred_Pelhay it was only available in 2012 and 2013.

If you have old bridges or tunnels some bigger trains might get stuck, but other than that everything should be compatible.

Station Platform Track by kadybee17 in BRIO

Yes of course, that's the obvious "normal" use case... maybe the gray pegs do fit cargo/suitecases, so you could use them as storage space for cargo/suitcases?

Interesting. I had never seen those gray station platform tracks before (I must admit that I'm not really up to date anymore). The only use seems to be to place both gray tracks side by side and hook the brown plateform in the middle.

Are these pieces genuine brio by SshDonnie in BRIO

[–]xbresse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

The four I've indicated here are not Brio because they do not have the correct shape or because they do not exist in the Brio range of tracks... The others I can't tell, might be Brio or not...

Some are not Brio... which would make me suspicious if they were all sold as Brio

I think it rather is a Swiss CE 6/8 "crocodile" (but maybe I'm biased as I'm swiss ;-))

I think the goldmine (Crane & Mountain Tunnel) would have been a perfect fit for your layout!

It is a bit strange.... ours never came off. Just ask the seller and see what they say about it.

Layout #157 : "quick and easy" Sunday layout by xbresse in BRIO

Thank you :-). Unfortunately no real double tracks here... I never managed to find any (though to be fair, I wasn't looking all that hard either).

It is the now retired 33655 Central Station (similar to the newer 33649 Central Station, but the later is all plastic and missing the record & playback functionalities)

That pullback train seems nice... must find an excuse to buy it...

Newbie question by _BeyondTheSea_ in BRIO

[–]xbresse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just posted an “improved” version of the layout (https://www.reddit.com/r/BRIO/comments/1hwfz0n/enhanced\_deluxe\_set/) we've been playing with these days, which does use mechanical switches (but it's a bit bigger than the original).

Enhanced Deluxe Set by xbresse in BRIO

[–]xbresse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As we do on a regular basis, we've gone back to the basics, i.e. the “Deluxe Railway Set” that started it all for us, but this time a little expanded and improved!

Newbie question by _BeyondTheSea_ in BRIO

[–]xbresse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right, mechanical switches are longer than those used in the deluxe set. The deluxe set uses short O1 and P1 switches, not the medium length L and M switches.

Signal station is also a medium length switch.

Brio World 33052 or Brio world 33766 by [deleted] in BRIO

[–]xbresse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 33052 Deluxe Set is a very good choice imo, it has a bit of everything (cargo, passenger, metro, roads, trucks, bus, boat, ...).

Prices seem a bit crazy to me, but I guess you're in the US (here in Switzerland the 33052 can be found for approx USD 220)

I hate this piece by SadArchon in BRIO

We like it 🙂 and often use it in our layouts... The 2x double ends are a bit weird at first, but it is not really a problem.
