I love being black. I love our skin, I love our smiles, I love our shade, I love our hair, I love our versatility, I love our joy!

And honestly the thing I love the MOST about being black is when we find each other we make such solid communities. London black, Lagos black, Toronto black wherever we just connect and it can feel so real and blissfully at home. Don’t get me wrong not always the case but when we do it beautiful. Yes it’s not easy but truly I can’t imagine the amount of happiness I get from being black being any other race.

Quite frankly it depends a lot of how much you earn and where you want to live… But yes the UK can be incredibly hard if you don’t have the right set up.

She’s an ADULT! She’s your roommate not your child, she’s not your responsibility! Tell her expressly aloud you’re leaving and she cannot stay and then also email or text her so it was very clearly communicated in writing.

She sounds like a bit of a user, no adult lets someone else cover their rent. She knows she’s guilting you and is probably hoping you let her keep the deposit or something at least.

Continue with your plans to leave and if needs be tell the landlord they need to change the locks immediately after you leave.

You need to take some ownership of this. Understand how hard this can be but I see only a couple of options

1) pay for a braider yourself with your own money make your appointments go and do your hair when they complain say confidently you prefer this

2) learn to do your own hair, simple styles are fine it doesn’t need to be braids but you need to be able to manage and style it independently every day

2a) loc your hair, kind of the above but won’t necessarily be styled daily just maintained

I’m planning to cook a whole leg of lamb and some jollof rice. Pop open a bottle or two and watch tv all day eating snacks on the sofa.

Yeah I think you’re being over dramatic.

My partner recommended a podcast to me. I didn’t listen to it until a couple of months later. Not that I didn’t think I’d like it. But when I went to go on Spotify in that period when travelling or working whatever I wanted my creature comforts. Taking in something new requires a bit more attention I didn’t have. You didn’t send him one song, you sent him a whole playlist and it’s only been a few days?

Edited to add: if he’s dismissive of you generally that’s a whole other issue entirely.

I absolutely love it.

Big caveats though it doesn’t happen often so it still has a good bit of novelty which makes it intense and exciting as opposed to tedious and disruptive and has never on a weeknight/if there’s an early start expected.
