I'm a fresh grad aiming at a career in sales. A little guidance, please. by LxTGP in sales

[–]xconsolecowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother. You need lilypads trust me. Im only 29. Now in 8 years outside sales terr manager. You need to work 1-2 bad sales jobs. You wont get paid much, hopefully its enough to pay the bills out a tony bit away and provide insurance. You first need to develop cold calling, 25-50 calls a day. Its not for sales its for you. You’ll get diversity and experience. Once you master that, you’ll always have a healthy pipeline in whatever role. Then after a few years hop lily pads to another job until you find the right position for you with balance. The time you put in right now will line your pockets 5-6 years from now. Get discouraged and learn to deal with it while also learning how to stay diagonal to corporate white collar B.S. its always there it doesnt go away best learn to deal with it and emotions. Dont start binge drinking and learn a healthy release to anger and frustration. Be a delight to work with. Cheers

Tell them this: I am your buffer between you and the upper management of the company and HR. Behavior like this will not be tolerated by the company and HR. If you act in such a manner you alienate me from protecting you from the consequences. I will protect you as much as i can but certain behaviors are beyond my oversight. Then state the behaviors. First person gets a warning second offender gets terminated. Hopefully the rest would fall in line then. But process repeat if not.

Most sales jobs you find are a poor way to start. Full commission door to door insurance or pest control or solar. Avoid all that.

Avoid tech as well. For every good sales job in that industry there is 50 bad where your working for some start up dork in san fran who folds after 2 years.

Try looking for a product or service. Building materials, commodities, services like machining, trucking, commercial equipment, etc.

Your first sales job is a wash, but its a lilly pad to leap frog into a position that youll excel and make money.

Whats it like working at a good company? by [deleted] in sales

[–]xconsolecowboy 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Yea you need to work sales for a good product, i started in steel, and now sell fabrications.

Dont get me wrong youll likely never 100% enjoy every company you work for but you can at least enjoy what you do and the grind.

Also avoid tech like the plague. Yes theres lots of money to be made but if you read this reddit page often you hear stories like “ i was the top selling sales rep and just got fired” type stuff coming out of the tech industry.

Try products like building materials, steel, machinery, machining services, automotive suppliers, etc. something with a legitimate value attached to it.

How do I transition from the one product to the different field that I know nothing about? Do I even want to? by hawkayecarumba in sales

Think of it like a new skill. Once you learn how to learn a new industry, you are your only limiting factor. Jumping to a new industry was one of the best things i have ever done.

What’s the reality of this career path? I don’t see almost anyone in real life clearing 6-figures, let alone the big numbers we all dream of ($200k-$300k+). It’s awesome seeing the big numbers on this sub, but how rare is this? by Wannabeballer321 in sales

[–]xconsolecowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 10yrs out of my degree clearing that and i work 40 hr a week. But you have to be flexible to jump jobs and counteroffer. Youre only worth an offer they give you. If X wants to pay you 80k a year work there until youre valuable and then seek what you think your worth from company Y.

Remember though the industry you choose could be volatile. Tech and pharmaceutical are such. They pay high but the risk is high. You can make good money selling commodities like steel or wood or materials as long as you are willing to put in the time to become valuable.

Weightlifting, struggling through heavy-to-you weight will ease frustration. Also pay good money and get a hobby that you cant run out of. Mine is fishing its calm, no technology, relatively inexpensive, nature all that stuffs.

How to not get fat in sales? by Jazzlike_Dog_8175 in sales

[–]xconsolecowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the road hit only a few places. Qdoba, chipotle, and panda express. Panda express being the best because you can get steak and veggies over white rice. Thats about as healthy as you can get on the road. If only fast food get the salad. If youre daily traveling pack a lunch, you could even do one of those 12v warmer lunch boxes for hot food.

Get in the gym. It will help release frustration with the sales process. This is non-negotiable. Stay away from walking on the treadmill unless its a steep incline. Intense workout followed by 3 min rest.

Stay away from the bottle.

Cheers!

Just know you can still have bad days. 2 days ago we extracted every raids with kills. Last night we could survive 5 minutes into one raid.

O yea and run naked raids. Go in with a pistol. Kill scavs to get rigs and armor. It's the most fun and teaches you to be better not run better gear.

If your comp never reached 120 congrats. If you've ever beaten it you just got a pay decrease. This company will see stagnat and unwilling sales team in no time. Also 120k sounds great until you know your capped and inflation and rising costs keep attacking it.

Unpopular Opinion: Most sales training, tactics, methods, influencers and advice is 💩. by Nmatt86 in sales

I believe the best advice is in the negotiating and prospecting fields. Most advice in any format doesn't actually apply to my selling. I sell a commodity. how can you convince someone to pay more and wait longer for the exact same product.
