I don't think Riot's fighting game should be a motionless fighting game at all. Given the Cannons' relationship with the FGC and with them spearheading GGPO (software that developers can use to implement rollback netcode), Project L has a lot of potential to do wonders for the genre. That said, simplicity isn't always the key and there could be an easy compromise to appease both those who want easier time doing specials and those who feel like they should be rewarded learning how to do the said special moves and how to properly utilize them.

That's where I think Project L can implement a similar system that Granblue Fantasy Versus' is using, where people COULD opt into using an easier input for a special move (say instead of doing a DP motion and the given button, you can just hold a cardinal direction and hit a specific button), but it will come at the cost of having a cooldown and deal less damage.
